Hope it doesn’t take to much to fix it Steve, I love seeing these old pieces of equipment still out doing work. Thanks for sharing and hope y’all have a blessed rest of the weekend my friend.
That corn picker is so cool. We have never seen anything like it. Sorry you had a breakdown, it does look like it’ll be a pain to get to. I can’t believe how beautiful the trees are there in the fall. Wow. Glad to see you back Steve, look forward to more if it works for ya. Take care.
Thanks Annette Yes it’s a pain to get to, so not sure what we do, fix or sell for parts. The fall colors are at peak here now, and the weather has been in the mid 70’s
Man is that the truth! One moment gloating in the glory of harvesting a crop, then cursing a broken part. Yeah that ole 50 was giving it all it had in heavy corn Thanks for watching
Thanks, I love that ole 50. Takes me back to simpler times. I never thought about the vibration causing this, but that makes perfect sense! Fall colors are close to peaking here in Michigan Take care and thanks for watching and commenting sir!
I know this guy that has a son who is a good welder....I think you know him too😁.....Hope you get her fixed up, I love watching the old stuff work....Thanks Steve.
Wow Steve! That picker was doing a good job until it broke. Sorry that happened to you. I was particularly impressed at how well that old machine husked the corn. Very few husks in the wagon. I've have a new idea 2-row picker (which I haven't used in years) which is newer than yours, but it never husked the corn as well as yours does. Hope you can get it fixed.
Well dang Mr Steve, I know that was disappointing for sure. Looked like things were going well too!! I love seeing that 50 out working!! Hopefully you can find a part for it or repair the one on it. Good to see ya again and thr corn looked amazing!! 😁😁🌽🌽🇺🇲🇺🇲
Thanks Nelson. Yes I was disappointed it broke but elated how good the corn looked. Not sure that old picker was built for that much corn, the ole 50 was in creeper gear. Older neighbor fella offered to let me use his IH PR1 to finish up. Thanks for watching
The corn looked great. ISadly New Idea is out of business. I've seen several in tree lines. Probably your best bet is to try to find a parts machine cheap.. Thank you Steve. Good to see you.
Thanks Bryce. It is pretty good corn probably more than the picker was designed to handle. Had me right down in creeper gear. Thanks for watching and commenting sir!
Howdy, Steve! That's a neat little picker! I hope you're able to repair that casting. If not, I'd be willing to try and machine a new one for you out of steel. It doesn't look like a fun job to get it out of there. I'm glad your corn did well! Thank you for sharing, Sir! I hope you have a good one
Should be cast metal or cast steel. Pot metal wouldn't have lasted very long. If you were a few thousand miles closer, I'd say bring it by, I'd glue it back together for you. Wire feed works great on cast!!
I thought it was cast, someone thought pot metal.....since I don't know what pot metal is I thought it was another slang name. I thank you for the offer, if we can get it out I think my son can get it welded back.....if not I'll sell it for parts or scrap and buy a small combine. It was fun picking, something dad never let me do, so this was a first.
@@AnglesideFarm I was thinking your son could probably do it.. V it out, best to warm it up, then tack it together.. then weld a little at a time and peen it, then weld opposite and peen it, until it's done. Well, you're one ahead of me, I've never picked corn, other than to eat it.. and I've never combined corn. Have been involved in putting up a few million tons of corn silage over the years though.. lol
Not sure where you live, but in and around Shipshewana IN. there are Amish dealers who can get you the parts you need, as they still use that type. That's where I get all my repair parts from, good people too!
@@AnglesideFarm I watched 1 of your other videos and noticed you must live near Battle Creek or Charlotte Mi. I live in Cass County Mi. so going to Shipsey is only a 45-minute drive, lots of reliable parts for New Idea stuff down there. 1 of the parts dealers also has good used equipment, not all beat-up, as the Amish use horse's not tractors to operate their equipment. Good luck with whatever you end up deciding to do with the picker. I use mine every year for feeding the cattle ground ear corn.

Hardest part is getting that casting out to be replaced or repaired
Thanks and you have a blessed weekend too!

Well, it was fun while it lasted. I always enjoyed picking corn growing up. The 50 sounded great.

Good afternoon Steve!
Good to see you!
Good afternoon to you too sir! Thanks Ed, glad to be here
Nice vintage 50 working. I imagine years of vibration got that casting. Nice color on that tree behind you.

Yeah I know that guy too!
I had a neighbor call and said I could borrow his picker, so the fix may be a while.
Thanks Brent
Thanks for a nice video Steve, hope you get that part
Thanks Jan

Thanks Charlie, I’m torn between fixing the picker or scrap it and get a small combine

Hi Evan thanks for offering to build one, I appreciate that! I think if we can get it out my son can weld it
Have a great weekend sir
@@AnglesideFarm 👍👍
If your weather has been like ours it’s been a great fall so far
We have been getting 70-80 degree days lately
Take care Andy and a safe harvest to you!

I’m about 3 hours north of Shipsy. I haven’t done anything to the picker yet but if I fix it I’ll check in to your suggestion
Thank you

Thats too bad. Maybe you can bronze that back together. Otherwise might have to do some corn picker shopping.
I’m thinking small combine shopping…
