My first exposure to a corn picker was a Woods Bros. 1 row unit that my Dad and Grandpa owned together. Since the first two rows where run over when opening the field my brother and I were enlisted to hand pick some of the ears the picker missed.
Nice shot of the full wagon going across snow covered field. Nice to be DONE. I don't farm but grew up on one and work in Grain industry. Harvest over is a Big Relief!!! For all of us that are doing it! 😁
First off I have to say that not many people in the world understand the difference between their job and the dedication hard work and perseverance that goes into being a dairy farmer, most people after one day would say NO WAY!
I remember picking with a MM uni picker with the single 2 rib wheel in back and how it would pull me around when the wagon got fuller in the mud or snow. No cab. The corn sure did stand well for you. How clean it picks is the number of rollers in the husking bed and design and like you said the design of the snapping rollers are makes a difference. Thank you for a great video!!
Thanks for letting me tag along Trinity Dairy congratulations on the awesome Harvest and y'all have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year please making these please keep making these awesome videos thank you so much take care and God bless
The hoodie I bought from your merch store fits great and even under my chore coat,, also the winter beanie fits good , keeps my bald head warm,, god bless and hope you and your family have a good Christmas and a better new year
Boy does this bring back memories. I remember picking corn into January we had the exact equipment, I think our UNI had a 3 row head. I always wished we combined, we would have finished quicker, very few farmers picked corn, most combined I image very few pick corn these days. I don't understand why picking corn was more popular, so much easier to store than the corn combined.
Corn Stalk bales are great for bedding but they gotta be on the dryer side or they freeze up and then there a pain to break open on our Beef farm we would bale up about 50 round cornstalk bales a year with a New Holland 848 round baler a good cornstalk bale when you cut the string will just roll out like carpet. Cows really like the cornstalk bales.
Riding in the cab of the Uni Corn picking was surprisingly quiet. Cut your corn stalks and bake them in the spring for next year. They will be much drier and much more brittle. So they will make better bedding material.
Back in the 60"s true 80's my dad and I raised seed corn in central NE. Started harvest labor day weekend with three row head, 703 power unit and 727 husking bed. Did seed corn till the first hard freeze then put the sheller unit on, were able to finish around Thanksgiving. Many 16 to 20 hour days. Did around 2000 acres. Good that you finished. Keep the machines running.
We used to add 2*12 or 2*14 boards to the top of our gravity wagon. Didn't seem like much but made a big difference especially when we went from a 2 row mounted to a uni with a four row head
Just before cristmas finished, now the less stressfull time is coming, always Nice to take a step back, before you know planting season is around, thanks and greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
Nothing like cribbing corn. You can see crib fill, not like a silo, where you have to climb up to see how full it is. Ear corn is great feed, really can grow cattle!
The corn sure turned out better than it looked like it would. The extra trash will add some extra fiber in the calf feed which is good. Will save on a little hay.
On our old Uni when the husking rolls in back were warn down we took some friction tape and got another 5 years out of them. Did a more aggressive job clearing out husks.
Happy holidays I enjoy ur video super work what u people do for farming reminds me years back when I would help my cousin on farm between vacation school year
Back in the mid 50's after the farmer where we lived would pay us kids 40 cents a bushel to go back over the field and pick up the cobs the picker left behind.Would prob.pick up another wagon load of corn.Hard and cold work.Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I think I saw a Case Combine in the background as you were unloading into the crib. What Model is that? My grandpa had one that looked just like that back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. New subscriber! Enjoying the content.
@@trinitydairy I'm thinking the power companies should concentrate more on reducing power outages and length of time the power is out, It is very troublesome for all of us particularly in the winter, The last time we lost power I counted 6 power bumps before it came on permanent.
Great job with your corn harvest Alan, I know you have said that you were going to have another shed built for the Uni picker, did you get one built yet?
Not trying to be nosy but looks like a good size shed/outbuilding out by that short silo. Don't think I noticed that before. Is there an advantage to grinding just the dried ears and cobbs over chopping the whole plant? Higher concentration of protein like soy meal maybe? Thanks again for bringing us along on your farm!
Yeah it's a decent size shed, my great grandpa, built it. The ground ear corn is more concentrated , it's fed like a grain instead of a forage, like silage. The ear corn allows us to dry the corn in the crib instead of having to have a grain dryer to dry shelled corn, shelled corn needs to be 15 percent moisture or less, to keep it from molding in storage, ear corn can be harvested at 20 percent moisture or even a little more, and will keep in the cribs.
For us it depends. The last couple years we had more corn than would fit in the silos or bags so picking it is a great way to store the extra. My grandpa bought it for picking, but his corn hadn't made picking Corn in a few years.
I noticed you are wearing yellow chore gloves. We have to look close at them around here. They sell a lot lite weight ones around here. The wild life will be upset with you. I'm feeding corn stalks to beef cattle , range cubes for protein.
How do you know if the big dairies misstreat their animals . All the ones that I have worked on and seen treat their livestock very well , because they are good farmers and they know that taking care of your cattle is what makes your money. Also, large farms provide jobs for people who do not want to own a farm or who cannot get a loan or have the ability to farm on their own.
That New Idea picker is sure a sweet piece of equipment!
To finish is a good feeling
Congratulations on your 2022 harvest. Hope you all have a great Christmas 🎅🏼 season and The Lord continues to Bless you abundantly ❤😊❤
Chop them up and plow back into the GROUND as organic material 😊
Miss picking corn, one of my favorite things to do.
It's a big relief to know corn harvest is done with. Isn't it. Gald every one made it though and safe.. Tks for sharing

Great job Alan picking your ear corn 🌽

Great feeling to be done. It's quieter in the uni cab than I thought it would be
Glad harvest is all done great video again and have a very Merry Christmas to you all

Glad you got the corn off before the really deep snow arrived!! Have a good Christmas to the neighbors to the west.

We had a flue going through the middle of the crib to help keep the mold off the corn.
Congrats on your harvest!
Looks cold! 🎄

It's a good feeling to be done harvesting. I've had good luck round baling corn straw in the spring.
Always a blessing to get more yield than you were hoping for. God bless you and yours

Thanks for sharing the 2022 Trinity Dairy farm season. Special thanks to you your videographer, and to the kids, who are always full of energy!

My John Deere 227 has rollers in it I replaced them last spring

Glad you got a good harvest in. It'll be nice having all that feed!
Great job picking, that is quite the unit, able to handle six rows at once.
I've done alot of corn stalks. You probably don't want to do anything with snow on them, they will heat. Moldy bales come apart hard.
Nothing like cribbing corn. You can see crib fill, not like a silo, where you have to climb up to see how full it is. Ear corn is great feed, really can grow cattle!
We didn't have corn pickers like that around my township , only the pull type .
That is a really neat machine
The corn sure turned out better than it looked like it would. The extra trash will add some extra fiber in the calf feed which is good. Will save on a little hay.
Very good job and merry Christmas and God bless yall very much
Looks like a pretty good corn crop. And, just harvested before too much snow hits, Good for you!
One thing about the husks that remain on the cob, that helps to wick moisture from the cob if the corn is still high in moisture.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year's old corn picker working good
Merry Christmas
Great video Alan

On our old Uni when the husking rolls in back were warn down we took some friction tape and got another 5 years out of them. Did a more aggressive job clearing out husks.
We replaced all the rubber on those rollers, but a lot of the rubber, husking fingers are gone.
@@trinitydairy I don't know if any one even carries parts any more..
He was able to get the rubber discs for the rollers, but that was about 5 years ago.

Congratulations on a successful harvest. Merry Christmas and all the best in 2023.
Corn stalks will get molde if to wet you would have to wrap them in plastic to use them glad your season done and a safe one
Good job done . Great video 👍🇬🇧
Hi Alan, agree with the one other comment, corn fodder needs to be good and dry or it will not shake apart very easily.
Glad harvest 2022 is over. Just buy looking at the corn sure didn't seem like it would yield that good. That a nice bonus.

is the uni something you use every year or did you bring it out to make vids and excersize it
For us it depends. The last couple years we had more corn than would fit in the silos or bags so picking it is a great way to store the extra. My grandpa bought it for picking, but his corn hadn't made picking Corn in a few years.
Why is stored in that way and in the weather .?
It's stored that way so the air will get through the corn, and dry it.

Do you use the case combine in the back ground
We haven't used it for years, it needs quite a bit of work.
