    Question: on the alpha numeric password setting, if the password has uppercase and and lowercase words with numbers and symbols how difficult and long would it take to unlock?

    • @TheUpdateContent
      @TheUpdateContent ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ll give you the mathematical answer to this.
      When trying to crack a 4-digit passcode, you need to think of how many possibilities there are in total. The possibilities run from the lowest number you can form with 4 digits (0000) and the highest number (9999) if you were to count from 0000 to 9999 you would count 10,000 times, so there’s 10,000 possibilities. Or the other way to work this out is to think how many numbers can you pick from for each column? The answer is (10) because you’re using the decimal number system. If it’s 4 digits long then you’ve got 4 columns. So the equation to working it out is your total number of available digits to the power of how many columns. So 10^4. Which is 10,000. If it takes you 1 second to try each passcode out of the 10,000, then it would take you 2.7 hours to go through every single one.
      Now, for alpha numeric passwords. How many characters and digits can you use for your password? Well you can use every letter in the alphabet (26) but you can also use every letter in the alphabet that is capitalised, as they are treated as separate characters and won’t be accepted if you get them wrong (for example if your password contained ‘A’ but you tried ‘a’ it wouldn’t accept it) so the answer for all letter in the alphabet used is 26 x 2 which is 52. Now you have every number available to you which is 0 to 9 which is 10 so now you have a total of 62. You also have all special characters like (!,?,£,&,@ etc.) and with all special characters included the total number of keyboard characters you can use for your password is 94! Now the question is how many columns do you have? Well it’s impossible to answer this as someone’s password could be as many characters long as they like. But let’s assume it’s the standard ‘8 characters long’ like your passwords online. Well, the equation is 94^8 which equals 6,095,689,385,410,816. How long would it take to go through every password if you could do 1 password every second? It would take 209,976,072 YEARS. So yeah, you’re definitely not cracking an alphanumeric password with this method.

    • @Stellar-Security
      @Stellar-Security 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheUpdateContent a long password are not enough. The hardware part is very important. Only Pixel from 6A and iPhones from 14 have great hardware (thanks to their titan/secure enclave chip) that protects against brute-force attacks.

      @@Stellar-Security what is AFU mode?

    • @Stellar-Security
      @Stellar-Security 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@harlemworldLowSum03 Its when the phone have been unlocked atleast one time with your passcode after a restart or shut-down (AFU = after first unlock). If you restart or shutdown then turn your phone on without entering your password, then your phone is in BFU-mode (Before First Unlock), which is a way more secure mode than AFU.

    • @forensicguy
      @forensicguy  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @Stellar-Security
      @Stellar-Security 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the phone is in AFU-mode its 'easier' to extract data from it, than if the phone is in BFU-mode. As in AFU-mode the encryption keys are in the internal memory. Most iPhones are in this state. But, if you have a long pincode plus the phone is in BFU you're more safe. iPhones can quickly be set into BFU-mode if you press the power-button 5 times quickly, or ofc restart/shut it down.

    I have a Moto E7 phone and I forgot the password. It contains uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Around 95 characters and 15 to 20, probably 16 digits. The number of attempts would be 95^16 = 7,958,661,109,946,400,000,000,000,000,000. But you said 6 digits would take up to 3 months, so 16 digits would take around 8 months, right?
