Heard Theresa for the first time while riding in a cab in Taipei during a 1994 business trip. Heard the voice and asked the cab driver who it was, he told me and I said I want that CD, He took me to a music store where I bought the CD. Loved it and in subsequent visits i purchased virtually every CD she had recorded. What a wonderful voice that I still listen to frequently. A very lovely lady with a wonderful voice.

Teresa Teng was a Taiwanese singer known for her love romance songs. She was born in January 1953 and died in May 1995 from an asthma attack while on vacation in Thailand. Teresa Teng is the best singer in the entire Asian world. She never performed in mainland China because music was banned at the time.

I was teaching English in Bangkok when, on 8 May, 1995, I saw the news on tv. Sadly the next day, certain newspaper and magazine cover pages were plastered with confronting pictures of the just deceased Teresa Teng. I felt that this was a very undignified way to treat the much loved singer!

Her ban was lifted in the late 80s and she got many invitations to perform in mainland China but she declined.
To her her ultimate regret really. Politics should not stand in the way. After all, she was a Han anyway one wants to view the lens. If she had performed in the Mainland, that would have spoken volumes that one never forgets one roots. Nevertheless, as a singer is was superlative with her voice! No quarrel here!!
