- Driving the Col du Galibier in France, starting in Les Verneys, and finishing in Col du Lautaret. This was a great drive! Awesome views, awesome road. I drove here on a Sunday evening. The road wasn't empty, but it wasn't busy either.
At the top it was quite windy and cold. I almost missed the top by driving through a tunnel. Make sure to avoid the tunnel and make the last few turns to reach the top.

Back in 1982 - July- I 'crossed' the Alps in my self built Volkswagen 'Buggie' a kit car made of Fiberglass . The Col du Galibier was the highlight - and the highest point. I remember the road was narrow , full of potholes , I was one of very very few vehicles , most of it I was alone. Somewhere near the top I camped on a flat kind of parking area - but without any signage. Next morning I woke up surrounded by ... cyclists and hikers and priests carrying a cross with Jesus or so. Whaaaatt ??? ..... it appeared to be sacred day and I was politely asked to pack up and move. On the way down South more brave people going up waved at my unusual car. If you Google it you find images: Ruska Classica Buggie . I still have a photo my car at the top , the mountains covered in snow (July !!) a sign reads: 'Les Hautes Alps' - it was taken near the well organized parking area in the video - then it was just a rough stopping spot. The road down 'hill' was a very rough track - a year later in 1983 I did it again - with my new girlfriend who is still my wife.

Fantastic.... This is an amazing road, the scenery is outstanding.. it goes without me having to say it but your driving was expertly done. You are a very lucky man to be able to drive these roads. I am assuming that you are a man? Probably mid 40`s, successful in business, design or engineering... that enjoys the finer things in life?? :-)))
Sempre affascinante il Galibier, ricordo di gite veloci quando, adolescente con la Vespa50, bisognava rientrare in città (Torino) entro l'ora di cena dopo aver valicato il Moncenisio all'andata per fare ritorno valicando il Monginevro...
