As a 76 year old great grandpa, my brand new 2021 Model Y was delivered to my house from Kansas City. The guy handed me the card key and drove off with the only instructions being how to use the key to get in the car and how to put it in gear. That was it. I had already watched enough videos to know that Tesla was the car for me. I am now waiting on delivery of my new red Plaid. My introduction to EV's was a 2012 Chevrolet Volt. It was a fantastic car with better fits, finish, and build quality than the Tesla. I have owned dozens of new cars in my life. The Tesla is the most fun.
I would love to buy a Tesla Plaid, but I have high blood pressure. I could get away with a Model 3 performance, but that’s about it. You are a lucky man with no senior health issues. 👍🏻👍🏻
You'll be very pleasantly surprised by the fit and finish on your new Plaid. The 2021 and even a lot of 2022s had issues until they moved to the gigacastings. The gigacastings force almost everything that is mounted on the car to be in perfect alignment.
@@jeffpicken5057 I was totally shocked when I picked up my model X last week the build quality fit and finish was just perfect. There was one small issue on mine, and it was the molding and nothing to do with the doors lining up or anything. Very impressive.
I am 69. We had a tesla on order and got a neighbour to help with a cell phone issue. He wondered if we were smart enough for a Tesla (sigh). Our Tesla is a year old and very intuitive to drive. We love it. 47000 km
I’m 96 and legally blind. I worked at Bletchley Park with Dr Alan Turing, who I am proud to say ‘made passes’ at me several times. I almost never responded because I was engaged to a special lass from Swindon, my darling Mary, who passed in 2002. I splashed for Full Self Driving on my Model Y, which allows me to drive home from the pub no matter how much I’ve had to drink (it’s only 43 miles from home). Alan enjoyed fast cars and would have loved it. I might even have let him touch my naughty bits again if we could’ve gone car camping in it.
Wife and my combined age 140 yrs old. We are real seniors. Have to hobble and wobble to enter our new Model Y Long Range but once we're in we're 17 yrs old again. We love watching reruns of All in The Family and Golden Girls on that massive screen thing while at the Tesla refueling depots.

What a good sport she was :) Tesla's might be intimidating for new users, but once you have everything set up, it's just an easy and fun car to drive and operate. Everything is on screen! Cars have sooooo many buttons. Who hasn't stared at their dash looking for a button???
LOL 😂 - I can certainly relate! As a 66Y-youngster, I surprised my daughter & new SIL (computer nerd) with the purchase of a Model 3 long range. Transferring from a 2010 MBZ E350, I rented two cars as eco-replacement considerations - Prius (hybrid) and Model 3 (full EV). A shout-out to Reyman/Hertz - Glendale; she walked me thru an 15-20 min introduction and got me on the road toute-suite! Hesitant about charging and unfamiliar with Superchargers, Reyman tossed in the mobile cables ICE (in case of emergency) to charge at home. Still adapting (your videos are helpful!) and love the ride. Even my 95Y-young mother appreciates the clean, uncluttered dash (and the frunk) but apprehensive about a “giant iPad” controlling the car 😅😅😅! She no longer drives but her eyes lit up when I mentioned Tesla has an upgrade for FSD 😮. We are impressed by the number & cleanliness of Supercharger stations and politeness of other Tesla drivers!
This was a well informed great video. I am planning to purchase the Y model and being a senior I am a bit nervous. But your video was very helpful. Thank you so much.
I was 75 in June 2018 when my Model 3 finally arrived, I was a DAY 1 (March 2016) reservationist. Fortunately, I’ve been a techy since the 1960s. So… no stereotypical technophobe here. Long story short, it’s the best car I’ve driven… and with the videos and a friend or relative with a little patience, you can get any person- senior or not- driving a Tesla with confidence within an hour.
If I’m lucky I’d be able to teach my 72-year-old mom how to use a Tesla in 30 days. When I was a kid I had to show her how to turn our computer on at least a half dozen times. 🤣 I love how you were able to explain the basic functions of the car like putting it in gear. You’re great at explaining those things.
My God. I can barely remember 76. Tesla guy just gave me 2 cards and said if I had any questions to come back in. Drove home 40 miles before I adjusted mirrors. Just drove 2000 miles to Blue Ridge Mountains and back to Fort Myers. Total worry free drive for 86 year old. Dog mode and auto drive made a wonderful trip.
@@EverydayChris You're right... Tesla removed the Creep and Roll stopping modes from new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles manufactured after January 1, 2024.
I used creep mode for a couple days until I was used to the accelerator. Didn't want to run into the front of the garage. As someone that lives near you I guessed where you were from the hill in the background in the beginning of the video. I'm almost 72 and in 2 days my 2021 Model Y will be 3 years old. I met my wife when we worked a block away from that Supercharger.
I love this video!! My wife, who went to peru for 3 months, and I got a Model Y the week after she left. She is finally coming back tomorrow… she isn’t a granny tho 😅, but she she is not technological at all, so these tips are great. Thanks Chris
I’m 68, got my Model 3 in 2018. I was 63 at the time. I have been using computers since Windows 3.11, built them and fixed them, was a gamer at middle age. Now at 68, I use an iPhone, ipad. I do self checkout at the market, and at fast food restaurants with self order menus. Driving my Tesla was a breeze. Like the other 76 year old senior that posted before me. I guess, he and I are a rare breed. Sad to say. 😢
Chris, this video is simply Brilliant!! 🤩You have a remarkable talent for putting together fun, informative and really engaging videos, and this one was no exception. I truly liked the way you mix humor and great creativity (with that cartoon-like approach) to effectively explain how to drive a Tesla to your dear mom, and to your video watchers. I was really cracking up while watching your video, honestly! I will surely save this video in my Tesla TH-cam playlist to pass along to anyone who needs this fun, basic tutorial. Great job, my friend, you get two thumbs up!!! 💯💯💯👍👍
She did great. My mom has driven my tesla but I have a 3. She likes to sit up higher. I am trying to talk her into buying a Y. I want my mom in the safest car on the road.
Chris - I have to that this was very informative for more mature less technologically savvy individuals! My favorite part was the FaceTime video that brought back memories of my mom. I would have to call her on the phone to get her to answer the iPad FT!
I am 12 years older than the mom. Took delivery of a 2022 model S last June. Have driven 26k miles so far. Thought it was no big deal driving a EV. Biggest difference... No maintenance on 26k miles. Just charge and go.
Chris I enjoy watching your videos. I’ve learned so much from your content. This was an excellent video for the newbie. I was intimidated about buying a Tesla. I’m not tech savvy but I’m feeling more confident. Keep up the informative videos. I appreciate them.
You really equate being 65 and/or a senior citizen with not knowing about technology. I love all things tech, am nearly 60, own a Tesla, and never found it confusing from day one. Don’t make people who are in their 60’s seem ancient. You’re gonna wake up one day (sooner than you think) and you’ll be one.
Just to start off I am subbed and I watch so I am not the enemy lol. But this specific video is not really for your average "Chris" viewer so all the cartoons made it harder to watch and I would have liked them not to be there. Second, man she really kept you on your toes lol, great questions that you normally don't think of in life with a Tesla but are perfectly natural for others! Great idea for a video. 👍👍

The answer is no. I was 67 and drove my first EV when I drove the Model Y I bought at the Charlotte Tesla dealership and drove it from the dealership to Asheville. It was very easy, like driving a golf cart. The computer screen was pretty easy to operate the basic features.
