    One thing I would like to add is to watch lots and lots of TH-cam videos of Great polishers like yourself, Evan Steger, Stephane Touchette and others to gain as much info as possible. I am a 62 year old pensioner and after retirement from Banking I wanted to jump in this art of metal polishing. Before I touched anything I watched hours and hours of videos. Then got some aluminum and stainless from a scrapyard and practised what I had learnt. When I screwed up it was at least on scrap metal but got my lesson. After 3 months of practising and trying things out for myself I started on small things first like alternators and ac compressors, old stainless bumpers etc. Then after a month I tried my hand at wheels and tanks. Been doing this for 2 years now and as you said people come looking for me now as not many people do this messy kind of work. Anyway apologies for the long rant and I would like to thank you again as you were one of my first mentors through YT. Thank you Dennis for the info you convey to newbies and experts alike. Keep grinding my man!! and keep the lessons coming.

    For the last few years I’ve asked my customers why they chose me over the other shops around there local area and the one thing they all seemed to agree on was the convenience of me being mobile… I really wanted to open my own shop, but like you mentioned most of my customers seem to have huge heated shops and it’s more convenient on their end for me to come to them..I will say working under pressure of an audience and the pressure of trying to get trucks/ boats done on the customers watch has formed me into an over all better polisher, and I feel confident I’m one step ahead of my competitors…

    I definitely agree with the mobile aspect. I do field service, and have no shop. Overhead on my end is probably the same if not more than a shop, because fuel sucks, but it’s a selling point. I’ve gotten bored but now I’m dabbling in polishing just to diversify. I only got into polish work just to sell some other trucks I have and i actually kinda like it.

    In cool, cold weather like I notice where you are at, bars don't get on the buffing pads...can I heat them up to melt them a little? I'm in Minnesota.

    Thanks for the video Dennis. I see you have a 6" sanding disc on your 5" DA sander. Does that work well? I started practicing with 6" discs on my 5" makita rotary and they ripped so easily, especially around the holes on rim faces. I searched for 5" sanding discs but I couldn't find anywhere in Ontario that sells them in 320, 400 and 600 grit

      Ya 6 inch works better for me in the corners and stuff… just saves the backing plates. I sell sand paper but of course on back order atm 😩 should have plenty in a few weeks.

    It’s necessary to have insurance if any damage?

    • @DCSuperShine
      @DCSuperShine  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Liability Insurance is definitely a plus.

    Do you stay busy during the winter months?

    • @DCSuperShine
      @DCSuperShine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Scott, it depends on the years… some I e been busy throughout… some a few days a week and some i can go a month with no work. This is mainly because I don’t go out and actively search for work in the winter months. I often get bigger jobs that last weeks or months which are great in the winter. I’ll also do more interior detailing and paint polishing during the winter as well. Hope this answers your question :)
      Thanks for watching.

    And also how much to pay a helper part time ?

    • @DCSuperShine
      @DCSuperShine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on your location really… I pay very well cause I want to my furs to be satisfied and stay with me. Pay minimum wage and your get minimum wage work.. and usually they miss work a lot and lend up leaving. I’m a firm believer in taking care of good workers. Pay them what they are worth and they will want to stick around and have pride in what they do.
