I have two fast questions for you. Could I just do the overnight soak in the pot I’m going to do the 40 minute steaming in ? And second, would adding powdered gypsum give them a nutrition boost or is it unnecessary? Thanks and I like the video!
@@johnrandles4403 u dont have to. u can just skip that and put dry popcorn in, then boil for 20 mins, then simmer for a hour. then take that soaked popcorn and put it in jars then pressure cook it.
Been using for years deer corn 🌽 just have to wash more. Pop corn I PC for an Hour @15psi then let cool for 1 hour after that immediately opening PC & run Cold water to stop them from cooking strain it for 30 minutes then jar 🫙 up PC 🫙’s for 2 hours done ✅
Closed is fine aslong as there is a gas exchange hole in the top. With no hole you will end up with a vaccumed tight jar like you buy from super market which pops when you open it. That is still fine just tougher to open / use lol
Hey! If you dont have a pressure cooker that tells you the PSI what should you do. I just have a standard pressure cooker with a turning nob. Also what do you do for inoculation of the lids? I can see just micro por tap? I was going to punch a little hole in the lids and inject with that and then put micropore tape over, Do you think this will be alright?
Try and find the manual or look up the manual online. Normally the high settings are around 12psi. Yes to the microore tape thats fine I have a video on this channel about growing lions mane in jars years ago, i injected through the tape in thats video and quickly put new tape over theres a technique to do it real fast if you find that video
I use a 23 Quart Presto (probably the best bang for your buck) and sometimes use an Instant Pot for small amounts of work. Read my website for a good breakdown on pressure cookers. ezmushroom.com/recommended-equipment/best-pressure-cookers-for-mushroom-cultivation/
ik im a bit late on this response but soaking for 24 hours and then boiling can help bring unwanted spores that are in the grain to life. This means they are more susceptible to being killed with the pressure. Also letting your cooker depressurize naturally helps too.
I use red wheat berries and typically soak for 12-24 hours then bring them to a simmer for like 10-12 minutes (until the inside is mostly translucent but a bit of white in the middle, almost like al dente pasta). Let them air dry the PC like any other grain.
Also, I like to change the water 3-4 times during the soak. The water will be dark red at first and by the 4th it will be clear, don’t have any scientific evidence if this does anything but it’s how I’ve done it. Plus grains be dirty yo.
Do you bring to a boil first to warm up all that popcorn? As soon as it is starting to boil, put it on simmer? That pot would take 10 or 15 min get warm if you place cold water or warm water with a full pot of popcorn. Is it Ok just to start it out on simmer and not use the high heat to warm it up?
I actually boil a kettle and pour it in the pan to speed it up so that the pan doesn't take time to heat up etc. I'd definitely start it on a simmer then add the popcorn if you cant do that.

short and to-the-point, just what i was looking for. thanks man (: cheers
For me, your website is the best source of information. I wish your channel and business expands. ❤
does it also steralise the popcorn inside of the jars when you use the pressure cooker?
yes
Instant pots are great
Awesome. Thank you.
I can't wait to do

Yes you can do an overnight soak of the water in the pot.
Yes you can add in gypsum typically 1-2% of the dry weight of the substrate. Good Luck!
I saw someone that put ground coffee in it also when cooking?
Why overnight soak

Gypsum and coffee grounds to nitriles the pH, works a treat!
I can use Deer Corn instead of popcorn? ... I really hooe so cuz I just bought 50lb for $8. Did I waste my money?
I've heard people mention that's what they use with success
From what i can gather deer corn is just dehydrated corn so it should be alright to use. Try it and see how it goes!
Deer corn has more of a contaminate risk so beware
Human corn is made for human use which means it's super clean. Clean is important in this field. You are paying less for more, more issues that is

Do you fully close tight the jars before you put them in the pressure cooker? Wasn’t sure if they should be left loose or tightly closed…

@@ezmushroom thank you 😃 keep up the great work I’ve learned so much from your channel.
How long are you soaking the grains before you simmer it?
I think he said he let them soak overnight.
Looks like a 23qt presto pressure canner. i have one too.

I've seen bringing to a boil then simmering for 45ish? Haven't tried yet but doing no pressure cooker too
Actually that was hydrating....sterilization was done in the oven....
What steriliser /cooker do you recommend/have

3 out of 5 Jars got contaminated. What do you think I could be doing wrong?

what to do if the water gets collected once you take the jars out after the last step?
Do you mean the jars are coming out the PC and look a bit wet? Normally a shake and leaving them for a few hours will allow that to soak in.
@@ezmushroom thankyou. It worked.
Could I pasteurise the spawn as I’ve no pc?
look up "broke boi tek" by Philly golden teacher higher chances of contam but could give it a go
I use an autoclave the same way right? But 90 min isn’t even an option. The most is 60.
Yes, what is the highest PSI the autoclave hits? If its 30psi this should be fine. Otherwise just try to run it twice in a row?
Just hit the button again before the timer stops.
what about wheat grain ? does all the process still the same ?
Video coming soon, only real difference is giving wheat a really good wash beforehand ensuring all the fine dust is removed.

Using feed corn is far far cheaper than groceries store popcorn. It's the same thing as deer corn although it's illegal to feed wild deer corn!
Why is it illegal to feed wild deer corn?
@@SmokinAce7 they probably start to go near people because they got used to eat from people, which is dangerous for others
