1:02:15 This happened to me once. It's 100% a migraine from having waaay too much caffeine(atleast this was the case for me). I had a nuclear cold brew and legit could not see whatever was in my direct vision. Took about 2 hours for it to go away aka for the caffeine to subside. Haven't drank coffee since. I'd suggest switching to tea haha
Dude, Shawn's migraine sounds almost EXACTLY like mine. I don't get the white light, my peripheral vision just gets super blurry and it gets hard to read, and then the rest of my vision gets wonky as the headache rolls in, and it ALWAYS ends in vomiting, then nap, then feeling mostly alright when I wake up. I didn't know it was just migraines for a looooong time, because my mom gets migraines and they're nothing like that. I feel your pain, Shawn!
Shawn perfect described how me and my dad get migraines, they're purely visual with a visual artifact, almost like very strongly backlit static. I get them semi frequently after not enough sleep or too much caffeine but I'm lucky enough to have a dull headache after it passes at most
I feel your pain Shawn I've suffered from migraines since I was 4 (27 years) and I've only had an ocular migraine (aura) once. When I was in optometry school, preparing for the boards examination, I went to look at my phone (to coordinate seeing Zoolander 2 I think) and I couldn't read any of my texts (my central vision was missing, like I could see a word was there but if I went to look at it, it was gone). Needless to say I was freaked out, started writing out the pretty grim differential diagnosis of sudden onset central scotoma. As it progressed I got a weird, like bad CG, rainbow gel "C" in my vision (a fortified spectrum). Then I got the migraine headache I'm accustomed to (happiest I've ever been to get one) about 15 minutes later. Which is an important time limit, an ocular migraine is one of the few things that can add to your vision (the fortified spectrum) not just take away (my grim scrawled list) but typically the visual phenomenon will spontaneously resolve within 15-20 minutes, if it lasts longer you should be seen by an emergency optometrist or ophthalmologist to rule out retinal detachments, ischemic attacks, and other potential problems that can cause permenant loss of acuity or vision if not treated quickly. PS I haven't had an aura since (~6 years) so hopefully this is your only one too
I had a migraine just like Shawn like 10 years ago watching a TH-cam video, and I had to read from the corner of my eye, which took a lot of effort, a webpage that said my retinas are becoming detached and I'm going permanently blind OR I'm dying and my brain is turning off my vision first, so I just laid down and went to sleep and woke up fine lol. The second time it happened I saw a little flash and thought "Oh no no no" and had a nap to get rid of it. Happened only twice in my life.
@@LawDraws that's the scary thing about it for the first 20 minutes there's no way to tell as the person to whom the symptoms are occurring. I can speak only to the retina detachment aspect, but that's quite easy to check... The hard part is getting your eyes in front of a specialist in a timely enough manner. I suspect with a scan or bloodwork a general practitioner or neurologist could rule out the other, but I don't want to speculate as that's not my area of expertise
Similar here, soon as Shawn started describing it i knew cause every migraine i get starts as an Ocular migraine and it never gets less scary. i just get blind spots all over my vision where it just washes out detail, then i start getting tunnel vision as the pain sets in. Only get like 1 a year luckily but they're the worst. Sometimes i can prevent them by slamming pain meds and a cup of coffee as soon as it starts
If you guys like Dario Argento please check out his 1977 movie “Suspiria”. It’s one of my favorite horror classics. It had a 2018 remake with Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton. The original is just… you gotta watch it, seriously!
This is the first and only internet podcast I know that ended on a gaping butthole bit. Also Shawn, speaking as a doctor, that was probably a migraine with aura. Instead of taking ibuprofen around the clock, you should look into migraine preventative medications, many are quite mild and safe, it’s a matter of finding the right one for your condition. Also, you probably already have a prescription for it, but look into triptans for settling the worst of the migraines. But not only is taking too much regular ibuprofen bad for your kidneys, it places you at risk for medication overuse headache, which is when your headaches become resistant to medications. But of course, discuss everything with your family doctor and they’ll guide you further. All the best!
So I shouldn't have just taken 600mg of ibuprofen because I woke up with a bad headache? But I have stuff to do today :( Took about 30 minutes but my pain went from a 9 to about a 3.
@@Stradlverius 600mg is a bit much, but on occasion is fine. Also depends if you take other meds, and take it with food to reduce stomach bleeding risk. Check your stool if it becomes black. Don’t over do it, if you find yourself taking 600mg constantly, you should speak to your family doctor.
@@bubblemaximus6500 is 'family doctor' the usual expression used in the US? I seem to hear that on TV shows and film rather than GP (general practitioner).
Holy hell I had the EXACT same thing that Shawn got (twice). A white light blocking my vision so I couldn’t read anything (which is a scary ass feeling you don’t even know, you can’t read anything you focus directly on) for about 30+ minutes followed by an earth shattering migraine with insane nausea. It is actually wild hearing someone explain it to down exactly the same way 😂
16:37 Damn! i saw it this sunday, love it, it was like three movies in one, the first one is like a romantic-hunted house, the second one is like a horror-comedy where the character didn't know he was in a horror movie and the comedy comes from his ignorance of the situation and just works, the last one is a slasher-serial killer of the week, but i think it fell apart by the end though, but it was a pretty good ride.
gotta say, that Gargoyles game footage you showed looked pretty cool. My memory is hazy about it but didn't Platinum develop a TMNT game that got pretty meh reception like a decade ago?
Shawn, I have the exact same thing happen every few years to me, these are called hemiplegic migraines. What you experienced are called auras with the light and because the migraine goes so deep in the brain it affects language comprehension. There are prescription medications that help with it. No real cause for em but they suck :(
The Green Man is actually a legendary being interpreted as a symbol of rebirth and spring. “Some speculate that the mythology of the Green Man developed independently in the traditions of separate ancient cultures and evolved into the wide variety of examples found throughout history.”
Thomas was Alone is memorable not because of the gameplay, which is rather basic, but the writing and narration. The creator also did a VN type game called Subsurface Circular which was pretty cool. Him doing a TRON VN might actually be interesting. Also, I'm always happy to see ancient games getting remastered/released digitally. It's easy to poke fun at this stuff but for example the Ducktales remake Garrett mentioned was just fantastic, and I'm saying this as someone who has never played the original or even watched the show that much. You never know.
To expand on what Derrick was saying regarding not watching the trailer for movies, I've avoided trailers in general for a while now and its made movie watching much more enjoyable. I would highly recommend it for people.
I saw that Jelly Belly water at a dollar store last week, and thought of the Mega64 crew instantly. I'm glad I didn't have to buy it and mail one across the country.
Shawn I get those exact migraines. Once you get that blindness prepare for the worst headache ever. I found out it was because I drink too much caffeine. But try cutting things out to see if it'll recur.
1:06:35 If you have blood in your stool too much ibuprofen could be the cause. My uncle cant eat certain foods anymore because too much ibuprofen messed him up.
I once had a migraine in my early 20s, similar to what Shawn had, aura migraines. I was up late on the computer playing games. In the center of my vision was a tiny speck of what looked like rainbow tv static that over the course of a few hours grew and grew. Absolutely freaked me out until I looked up the symptoms and even saw a representation of exactly what I was seeing. Slowly faded away before it got too big to actually blind me, just the weirdest thing. I was always prone to anxiety so I was lucky I could find a google image and an explanation or else I would have thought it was a stroke and went to the hospital and wasted a shit ton of money.
I've had a few migraines and they've always been colorful lights in my vision that I see even when my eyes are closed. Never lost the ability to read though, that sounds more like a stroke. Might want to talk to a doctor, I got medication for migraines and haven't had any since
Since I never saw it mentioned by anyone else here in the comment section, I’m going to list the one thing from this year’s lackluster D23 that has me excited! The new Werewolf By Night MCU Halloween special looks _amazing_ it’s filmed in Black and White, is a tribute to the overlooked Amicus films British werewolf whodunnit horror-mystery movie *The Beast Must Die,* has the fucking *GIANT SIZED MAN-THING* after years of him being teased in tv and movies, and seems disconnected enough from the other MCU stuff that you can presumably watch it without seeing any MCU shit since Endgame! I will be so disappointed if it’s bad with all these things going for it, but since it’s being directed by a guy who’s primarily a composer, I know I should probably temper my expectations, but for now at least, I’m looking forward to it more than the Hocus Pocus sequel (also teased at D23 with a full trailer).
I had the same thing as Shawn with my eyes where I could not read or see any electronic screens. It was very scary. It's happened to me the last two times I ate blueberries. Years apart! I guess it's some weird allergy. I'm not willing to test it again, I'm avoiding blueberries from here on!
It's probably not the best for your liver but if you combine Advil and Tylenol It works a lot better I usually take 800mg of Advil and 1000mg of Tylenol for tooth pain but if you do that don't take it again for 8 hrs because 3000mg is an overdose

Rocco showing respect to the queen by praying instead of joining the podcast. Truly the most christlike
