I'm so glad that this episode of the SciShow Talk Show was made. I really enjoy seeing Jessi and the animals she brings on and it was a special treat to meet Augusto and hear how they came to be in Montanta.
I am currently majoring in Veterinary Assisting at my high school with hopes of becoming a marine veterinarian and one day even opening my own marine animal rescue and sanctuary :) Animal's are a blessing and it is our duty to protect and care for them.
Hi Scishow, it would be awesome if you guys considered investing in some macro lenses so we can get a better look at some of the creatures you bring on. This lizard looks absolutely fascinating, but it was hard to see any detail. Jessi has been great about bringing in some really exotic and interesting specimens and it would be nice if we could see some more closeups. I feel like that kid that's standing behind the crowd trying to see what's going on.
Why do the sci show talk show episodes get so much less views? I personally enjoy these as greatly as the standard episodes! Please keep doing them, they're always so informative =)
I'm really glad that Hank brought Jessi on the show as well as the animals. It's really interesting hearing about how she got into that business and I think the animals are so neat.
this is easily my favorite sci show talk show! I love animal wonders and jessie and augusto! They are awesome people and it was really interesting to hear more about how they got to be where they are now :)
Fantastic episode! Being from the So-Cal area around Moorpark it's great to hear that they got their start there. It's also nice to see that they realized California didn't need another Zoo, being so close to San Diego (one of the best Zoo I've ever been to) it's better to share the wealth of knowledge elsewhere.
Usually, my favorite part of SciShow Talkshow is when Jesse comes in with the animals. It was really cool to see hear about her background and how she got where she is.
Hey Scishow and Animal Wonders, thank you so much for this episode. It's been very interesting, I really appreciate the effort you guys put into this :)
I have said something like Thenever said a few months ago. I too hate it when people just show animals to feel good themselves. I even accused scishow of that. The thing is, I used to work in an animal rescue center and I saw the results of people's bad judgement. And I hate promoting exotic animals as pets. I was wrong. I didn't know these guys had a kind of rescue center too. Now I know they are just showing the beauty of the animals and use them to educate people, also about NOT keeping them because they aren't good pets. Sorry I misjudged you and keep educating people.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Spreading education, appreciation, and respect for all the animals on this planet is exactly what we are working toward every day.
OMG! I am a long term nerdfighter, a huge fan of the show and I am now a first year at America's Teaching Zoo! I always wondered if Jessi was a EATM grad. I can vouch for the the fact that it's an amazing program. I'm only about a semester in and I've already learned so much and I'm loving every minute of it. P.S. Rosie is an old lady now, but she's still amazing and I'm sure she'd love it if you came to visit. I know I'd love to give you a tour of the zoo if you drop by in the next two years!
I always watch these videos and I'm like, "that would be such a job, just having like, a bajillion animals around all the time" and then I think about how it's probably completely different from what I imagine and I'm like "maaaaybe not"
Some people claim that conventional TV is dying and can't be replaced. This is proof otherwise. I would rather watch this twice than having to sit through another half-hour "conventional" tv broadcast of the same topic. This is NOT counting Attenborough-style stuff, which might be equated to "real" journalism. I hope you get the distinction. I'll be glad to clarify.
I thought cryptozoology was where you trained animals to decipher coded messages, but I suppose this makes more sense. Probably not a lot of demand for owls that can solve cryptograms, though personally I've been looking for one for quite some time.
just wondering if they have heard of the study performed in the 70's where successive generations of arctic foxes were artificially selected for domestication, very interesting you can see the footage of it and read about it for free, as after generations the arctic foxes behaved very similarly to domestic dogs, apparently bein very pleased when their handlers returned etc.
I saw a documentary about something like that. I can't remember if it was Arctic foxes though. It was really interesting because after a while the foxes even changed physically - they became smaller and even started looking more dog-like.
Sounds a lot like a chuckwalla. I had about 7 of them when I lived in AZ. They even have a special gland which filters the salt out of the water they extract from their food. Then they sneeze pure salt! I wonder if the uromastyx does that too.
TheChinaTroll I've seen that, thanks. But I thought I'd spend word to express you my appreciation for your helpful response. That's something rare on TH-cam these days...
Ah!! The Zoo at Moorpark! It's like one of the only colleges with a Zoo and it's also one of the best community colleges in california. It's also where I went for my first two years of college.
best show :D as someone who is looking into a future of biology and herpetology (study of amphibians and reptiles) this one was really interesting, i love Mali uromastyxes! too bad they need such a high temperature.
20FAHQ I'm currently going for a biology major and if finances work out, I'll be starting my senior year. As far as grad school goes, right now I'm thinking to continue biology with focus on animals. In the mean time, applying at internships at zoos or wherever else that has animals might help in experience. Or even at your own college campus.
20FAHQ You may even be able to be an assistant to a college professor who studies or teaches what you want to do. There's this thing called Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURE), this is what one of them looks like medicine.buffalo.edu/education/undergraduate/sure.html (this isn't the school I go to, but looking at this, it seems like each state or school has their own SURE program because our qualifications differ slightly and the deadline is different from ours (ours isn't until March lol). If you're interested in research experience, I would look at the school's website or ask science advisors/teachers/etc. if they have anything similar.
Is there a reason why the two clocks in the background are about 30mins off from each other? I look at it every time they are both in the shot. Love the show by the way.
I kinda wanna do something like what she does, but with invertebrates, as im more comfortable with an invertebrate in my hands than anything else, but like help people really understand the critters that make up the majority of earths fauna.
Uromastyx sounds like a great pet for me (not for everyone) has a similar diet to my guineapigs (probably eats a lot less than them LOL) I mean I wouldn't want one straight away but I'd like to read up on them and think about them in the future.
I thought you had a couple of primates that you made yourselves, but you keep them in your bedrooms instead of with the other animals; people call them babies. :-)
Yeahhhh moorpark college hahaha Thats where I'm at till I Transfer! Their EATM program is the best!!! So awesome to see people so awesome come put of there!!
Fun fact! The air doesn't feel as cool as the lizard because the air doesn't conduct heat as well as lizard skin. The same thing happens when touching metal vs the air.
Agusto is such a wonderful guy! He's helped me numerous times with my aquarium troubles
I'm so glad that this episode of the SciShow Talk Show was made. I really enjoy seeing Jessi and the animals she brings on and it was a special treat to meet Augusto and hear how they came to be in Montanta.

I would also like to extend my own thanks to Jessie and Augusto and Hank!!! I love watching SciShow guest videos with Jessie's critter friends!!!
I'm really glad that Hank brought Jessi on the show as well as the animals. It's really interesting hearing about how she got into that business and I think the animals are so neat.
I really enjoy watching shows like this that entertain but also educate.
this is easily my favorite sci show talk show! I love animal wonders and jessie and augusto! They are awesome people and it was really interesting to hear more about how they got to be where they are now :)

Please tell me I'm not the only person who saw this couple and instantly thought of the couple from the movie Rio...
Michael Aldeguer you are not, like insanely similar
Hey Scishow and Animal Wonders, thank you so much for this episode. It's been very interesting, I really appreciate the effort you guys put into this :)
This is pretty exciting. One of my good friends is going through EADM right now so learning I've been watching her fellow alumni is awesome :)
Thanks so much for this episode! I've been asking about this in the comments of the animal wonder's videos for so long.
I wanna hear about the love triangle between Jessie, Augusto and Rosie. It sounds like dramatic stuff.
I have said something like Thenever said a few months ago. I too hate it when people just show animals to feel good themselves. I even accused scishow of that.

I really wanna see a animal bloopers reel from all your shows so far!
They came to my high school when i still lived in montana it was awesome

You'd have to deal with a lot of poop.
They were trained at EAT 'eM...
That explains why they love animals so much.

That was awesome, and really interesting as well. Love animal wonders.
This finally answered my nagging questions as to how all these amazing creatures made it to Montana, thank you!
Isn't cryptozoology the search for mythical creatures such as Unicorns or Big Foot?
i thought cryptozoology was stopping the animals from escaping the zoo?!
well i guess you learn something new everyday.
I believe its all undiscovered life but don't quote me on that.
I thought cryptozoology was where you trained animals to decipher coded messages, but I suppose this makes more sense. Probably not a lot of demand for owls that can solve cryptograms, though personally I've been looking for one for quite some time.

Damn you infernape425!
Nice, I currently do animal rescue (reptiles) and also soon will be doing education outreach! Thanks for the show!

My Uromastyx Buddy is so easy to care for. He has such a sweet personality!
Which animal did Hank try to touch but was not supposed to? I want to know :D
I would guess one of the foxes
that was an amazing episode - thank you :)
Jessi brought Jessi and Augusto
Funny, informative and scientific. The perfect storm of awesome.
This was a fantastic episode!
CASTAñEDA
It just looks so weird with the lowercase ñ stuck in there.
They should be on a panel with Emily at VidCon!! That would be so neat!
Emily from Snake Discovery?
MORE AUGUSTO!!!
Sounds a lot like a chuckwalla. I had about 7 of them when I lived in AZ. They even have a special gland which filters the salt out of the water they extract from their food. Then they sneeze pure salt! I wonder if the uromastyx does that too.
What degree does Hank have?
First degree, but the murder trial is ongoing and it my bump to second
Bachelors Degree in Biochemistry and Masters Degree in Environmental Studies.
☢☢☢ as well as recently evolved as a professor emerritus of edutainment in science media data disseminator !
he has a bachelors in biochemistry and a masters in enviro studies
Bsc Honors in Awesome, with an honorary doctorate.
augusto was awesome, i wish he would have spoke out more though he seems like a fascinating guy! i would love to hear more from him!!!
i always wondered why hank would never touch the animals. i would want to touch all the things... ALL THE THINGS!!!
"Eat'em" such a funny acronym for an animal rescue
You guys are awesome!
I find that really cool, animals that get their fluids from the food they take in. Makes sense if you're a small desert animal.
Now I know that the eye candy of the talk show is taken... Thanks for crushing my fantasies Hank.
Thanks for the video, especially love the desert lizard
Love Jessi
LOVE JESSIE!! WOO!
Ok ok, everything's fine.. But my question, since we have such expert guests, is... What does Mr. Fluffy say?
What does a fox really say? - Earth Unplugged
search in youtube search field, its the first video

Another awesome episode ^_^
The house is very Santa Fe looking. reminds me of the homes here in ABQ
the awkawrd level in this video is very high
who am i kidding....IT'S OVER 9000
Is Jessi Scandinavian?
Knudsen sounds like a remarkably nordic maiden name.
It's a Danish name, so she's likely ultimately of partly Danish descent.
har du hørt om knudsen og ludvigsen?
Ohhh. I miss Moorpark 24/7 on Animal Planet.
ohmigod I had a mallyeuromastix as a kid named Nick. i love those things
I think some of the best debates occur right here in the comment section
What's with the slight echo in hank's microphone at the end of the episode?
Hank, you should totally do a Talk Show with Elise Andrew from IFLS!
This was a good episode
#fuckgoogleplus
That Augusto is quite the talker!
I want to go into animal behavior/psychology. Are schools like these common? Because I need to find one where I live (near Portland, Oregon).
Update: I want to be an ethologist.
+Vincisomething Me too!! :D Did you make it happen?

I love learning about rodents,'and I want to study them! I think their so interesting!
Wait a minute.....they protect and educate about animals at a place called....EATaM????
I want to become a zoologist/vet tec and work in animal rehabilitation hopefully :). I'm applying to colleges now for it and its really exciting.
they look like the birdkeepers in Rio

Seems to be working, keep it up!
Can you guys PLEASE do science of soul mates? Or souls in general? Has there been any experiments with soul findings?
What the hell happened to that table? :D
Nothing, it's marble.
Okay so where do they shoot this? Cause that's a nice looking building, kinda rustic like a log cabin but lots of space and complexity.
I thought you had a couple of primates that you made yourselves, but you keep them in your bedrooms instead of with the other animals; people call them babies. :-)
So, where the hell can i find myself a girl who is that awesome? Also is that lizard legal to own?
Yeahhhh moorpark college hahaha Thats where I'm at till I Transfer! Their EATM program is the best!!! So awesome to see people so awesome come put of there!!
I didnt know this was an interview channel...
the sci show talk show always has an interview, sometimes more than one.
Hanks got the thirst! get him a tall glass of water
Is the fatness of the tail an outward indicator of their general health like with Leopard Geckos?
Augusto is a lucky man! :)
Fun fact! The air doesn't feel as cool as the lizard because the air doesn't conduct heat as well as lizard skin. The same thing happens when touching metal vs the air.
We just did a lab about enzymes and temperature!
I wonder what species Augusto is.
HANK! what did you get your degree in!?
Take a tour around their zoo for a video?
When they open their mouth it is to regulate their temperature, it's not because they're angry it's because they're hot.
