JD Sumner was the man with the deep bass voice and his male group was the Stamps Quartet. The girl group was the Sweet Inspirations, Cissy Houston left the group around 1971 to focus on her children and home life so she is not in this performance. Elvis’ core band was the TCB Band, drums was a man named Ronnie Tutt, lead guitar James Burton, rhythm guitar was John Wilkerson, piano was Glen D. Hardin, bass was Jerry Scheff, harmony was Charlie Hodge and the orchestra conductor was Mr. Joe Guerio.
Thank you for keeping Elvis relevant. He was phenomenal as a performer but even more so as a humanitarian. He literally gave away his fortune to help people in any way he could. Watch Elvis of the generous heart to understand the soul of this man. 👌💕🕺🙏
That's another reason I like Elvis. He seemed like such a humble and caring person. Even when people tried to pull him down. That's the kind of artist we should all keep memory alive.
Another great one is you’ve lost that loving feeling, Las Vegas performance. The Righteous Brothers version was good, but Elvis just took it to another level.
Elvis was so multi talented!! Anything he sang was spectacular!! Elvis has always been my favorite Entertainer!! There will never be another Elvis!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤!
@PATRICK B. SMITH ; 1st : MGM was NOT the Hotel cause it didn't exist in 1972 ! MGM was the MOVIE Company (Metro Goldwyn Mayer) who filmed a series of Concerts Elvis did in 1971-72 nationwide for the later to be released title "Elvis on Tour" , wich later on won a GOLDEN GLOBE for BEST documentary in 1972. 2nd : This concert was filmed at the sold out HemisFair Arena. (doesn't exist anymore) in San Antonio Texas USA . In fact an Elvis concert in the 70's was ALWAYS SOLDOUT! You had to stand hours in line to get a ticket for an Elvis concert (no Ticketmaster etc) and average price was $ 15,- in 1970-1976. SO to conclude : We had Elvis Mania in the 50's and 70's . After Elvis came in the 80's Michael Jackson Mania .
He was so nervous because as he said to his team, every audience was a new audience that deserved the best they could do. It made him happy to see his fans enjoying his performances. He never wanted to let them down 👌💕🕺
Thank you, for recognising the pure ,extraordinary talent, and not magnifying and dwelling on his faults. No one is perfect after all.. Please , check out Never Fall in Love again by Elvis. Be safe and healthy.
The gentleman with a low voice. His name is JD Sumner. And the men with him is called the stamps cortant and also one of the ladies in his back up singer is the mother of Whitney Houston.
A slight error in the location as someone mentioned below; this is San Antonio, TX. The way to know is that there was never any professional film version of the Garden like there was for Vegas in 1970 that was done by MGM. There is only some poor quality film for audience member(s) that is dark & grainy. Thx for this -- he had some outstanding performances at this concert, one of which is "Burning Love" having a real good time w-it & his lyric sheet.
Elvis was the king of entertainment. Greatest voice ever, great dancer and played multiple instruments. An actor and fashion and style leader and also one of the best looking man that ever lived. He was also an unsung hero of uniting all people.
Cissy Houston from the sweet inspirations,is nr.3 from the right, standing next to Cathy Westmoreland. I think you can see the resembleance between Whitney and her in her facial features. They have the same smile. 😍 Love your reaction .🙏🥰Thankyou.
Cissy Houston was w-Elvis for only 5 wks. in 1969 - July 31st to Aug. 28th -- she left to be at home w-her children then went on to back up other singers before forging her own career. He had 3 female backups & Kathy (w-a "K"); there is a slight resemblance but not her. Elvis took on a 4th female backup but i can't recall her name right how. Whitney said her mother was w-Elvis for yrs. but it isn't true. Thx.
Its so great to see the younger generation enjoying Elvis songs and keeping his legacy going strong. This way he'll never be forgotten as it should be. He asked one of his closet friends how long he would be remembered. I don't think he thought people would remember him and still enjoy his music this long after his death.Live on Elvis and we haven't forgotten you.🤗
The wonderful guy on bass is JD Sumner who met Elvis when Elvis was a 15 year old coming to hear gospel quartets in Memphis. JD was much older and a popular artist in gospel. Elvis sat on the front row many nights. One day JD saw Elvis and said, "Haven't seen you son, where have you been?", Elvis said I would come but I don't have much money to go anymore, So JD said you come to the back door from now on and I'll let you in. Years later Elvis would hire him as the famous bass singer you here in this song. Thanks Pat.
from his 1972 Tour filmed for His MGM( Metro Goldwynn Mayer Concert Documentary Film "Elvis On Tour". Filmed June 10th, 1972 at Madison Square Garden, NY, N.Y.
When Elvis began in the mid 50s so did rock n roll. He immediately went to the top of the charts and had 12 #1 hits for the decade; no one else came close and he was 70% of the music market. That's why Rolling Stone said Presley made rock n roll the dominant pop genre and why he was called it's Big Bang by Chuck Berry. It's also why he was dubbed the King of the genre. The numbers supported it. Artists have come and gone with acts like the Beatles and Michael Jackson having similar success but Elvis's initial impact and his ensuing career explains why he was continually called the King. Proud Mary was a hit by Credence Clearwater Revival. Tina Turner's version became the most popular and creative cover. Elvis's was closer to the original. I like both but being an Elvis fan I'm biased. The bass in the back was J.D. Sumner and he helped Elvis provide his signature gospel spirit.
I've always enjoyed both version Let's agree is better than the original Elvis was born of a jam session when you're having a hard day and you're hearing that song how can you not get picked up Tina on the other hand Makes you want to get down and dirty That's why I like both of them I enjoy your reaction
Brilliant reaction. You hit the nail on the head when you spoke about the effect Elvis had on his audience. I was on front row at the Cow Palace in San Francisco in 1976, and when Elvis walked out onstage it felt as if the air had been sucked right out of the arena. 17,000 fans had been holding their breath until they saw him, and all that energy was released at once. If an earthquake had struck Frisco at that moment, we would not have registered it.
And this was Elvis when more bad concerts then good, 76 was not a good year for him, except for that last week in December where he showed he was still Elvis, he literally looked 20lbs lighter, sense of humor was great and he was singing full throttle, too bad that didnt last
I think singing was so easy and natural for him, he was able to go all out on the entire performance. His voice is all him, no auto tune… which as a vocalist myself, I strongly dislike. During this time, vocalists used only their God given talent… Many albums he recorded were from live performances, and that just proves the quality of his voice… with some other artists the studio version does not match the live performance but with Elvis it did. He was the total package. He had everything talented vocalist, great showmanship, dancing, and charisma, and he is not bad to look at either…❤EP
BRO, ELVIS performed this song initially in 1969, Live, in Vegas. This was his grittiest, rock driven version of all. He was a real nitpicker about every facet of a song, rehearsing until all his singers and musicians sounded exactly how he wanted. There are quite a few rehearsal videos available; one in particular is "Words", written and sung by the Bee Gees. I've seen one video that shows the practice and the Live concert version together. His voice is just out of this world! I loved Tina Turner. She was always a beautiful class act that deserved recognition for her strength and musicianship in the face of her early beginnings. I feel cheated that I was never able to see her light up the stage, live.
Thats the TCB Band, with only a few changes in the band, this was his concert band 69-77, plus they were his studio band from 72-77 1. James Burton lead guitar, one of the best rock guitars ever, Burton is known for his chickin picking on it 2. John Wilkerson on Rhythm guitar, if my memory serves he never missed a concert date 3. Hard working Ronnie Tutt on the drums, also one of the greatest drummers all time 4. Jerry Scieff on bass, kicked ass with those bass notes 5. Glen D Harden on piano, he was a huge help in dóing and music charts with orchestra
Love your insightful reactions to Elvis. He is timeless, irreplaceable and a force of nature. His band and background singers were great - he'd known the deep bass singer (JD Sumner) since he was 14 attending gospel concerts in Memphis. All types of music ran through his veins, and even when his health/body was failing his voice never gave out. Long live the King ❤

Very nice reaction Patrick. Those are the Sweet Inspirations, who were his back up singers until he passed in 1977. Cissy Houston sang with Elvis for 6 weeks only when he opened in Las Vegas in 1969. After that she wanted to stay home and raise her children. 🙋🏻♀️🇿🇦 more Elvis please! 👍
Cissy Houston Founded the Sweet Inspirations and Yes She Opened in Vegas with Elvis in 1969 but Even though She Left the Group not wanting to make a Long Term Commitment while her Children were still Young, the Remaining Sweet Inspirations stayed with Elvis until he passed in 1977. Whitney Houston Said in an interview that her Mom was with Elvis for many years so it's possible she did other random preformances.
You are the first person to get this right in many ...... Many years ....... That I have tried to get this out about Cissy ...... Thank You for keeping the facts ...... Fact ......
@@nealmalik9142 thank you. Yes, truth does matter. I watched the video where Whitney said her mother sang for Elvis many years... that is not exactly true! Cissy may have kept contact with Elvis, but only sang as a backup singer for 6 weeks in his opening Vegas shows. It is documented. Have a blessed day. 👍🙋🏻♀️

Great reaction Pat! Elvis the greatest performer ever, not to mention his voice, just one of a kind! He was once asked who he sounded like and his response was, "I don't sound like nobody!" How true that is! 😊
Ronnie Tutt on Drums, Glen D. HARDIN on Piano. J.D. Sumner & The Stamps Quartet. Male Backup. J.d. Sumner is the Tall Bass Singer. Now from Elvis On Tour, Listen to Sweet Sweet Spirit. By the Stamps Quartet. Elvis asks them to do a Gospel song called Sweet Sweet Spirit. It's beautiful. Then listen to a song called " You Gave Me A Mountain" and another version of American Trilogy from On Tour in 1972 the spring tour in 1972. All terrific! Big Hunk O' Love and Lawdy Miss Clawdy one of his 1955 Sun Records, live on Tour in 1972. A Flashback to 1956 from this film On Tour 1972 called Ready Teddy! Enjoy them all.
Great reaction there will never be another elvis he had the whole package he was an amazing entertainer and he always made every song his own... Rip elvis Rip Tina turner
Love it how Elvis's musicians and backup singers seem to have such a good time when they're performing with him ... he really had love and respect for the people he worked with ! TCB forever !
The song was done by Creedence Clearwater Revival excellent excellent job then Tina Turner grabbed a hoppedon it and Gave a whole new her loving style. Then Elvis snagged on to it and made it his. That's why it's the king period
PAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY - ON THE PIANO IS - GLEN HARDIN -- DRUMS - RONNIE TUTT - BACK UP SINGERS - THE SWEET INSPIRATIONS ( ESTELLE - MYRNA - SYLVIA ) HE HAD OTHERS DEE DEE WAS ONE AND CISSY HOUSTON MIGHT OF BEEN ANOTHER - JD SUMNER - THE BASS SINGER --- LOVEEEE YOUR TOP!!! - SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU -----
Yeah something so different about him, levels. This is actually San Antonio, Tx. He would tour constantly, wasn't in Vegas nearly as much as people think. He hand picked everybody on stage. On drums is one of the lowest rated of all time, Ronnie Tutt. The Sweet Inspirations (Cissy was no longer participating), James Burton, JD Sumner, Glen Hardin....the list goes on. The absolute best. That's what Elvis wanted to give everyone who spent their hard-earned money to see him.... the best, and he delivered every time. PEACE!
Love your reactions man. This ,man is definitely one of the greatest performers of all time. If you have some spare time please do its over live in Honolulu 1973. Much appreciated
His music is always great that’s the thing you can always always count on a good performance with any song he sings. He has the best and so beautiful inside and out. Try this link and put it in a couple of other comments and it is the same one however, I have several others, but this one you would like I haven’t seen that you’ve shown up yet.
You 💯 hit the mail on the head don’t nobody perform like that anymore and no one is on Elvis’s level love your Elvis reactions we have missed you hope you’re ok ❤can you react to trouble by Elvis please 🙏
Great reaction ❤ Glen Hardin on piano, Ronnie Tutt ( since passed) JD Sumner bass singer and Sweet Inspirations. Cissy Houston was not with SI in 72. She only did a year with Elvis due to other obligations. She returned for 25th Anniversary Special. Thanks for the memories.

On piano Glen Hardin, on drums Ronnie Tutt, back up male singers JD Sumner and the Stamos Quartet, The Sweet Inspirations are the female backup singers and Kathy Westmoreland is the the other female backup singer!😊
Powerful performance by Elvis, his amazing band and backup singers! That's The Sweet Inspirations backing him up. They performed with him on everyone of his concerts from 1969 to his last show in 1977. Over 1,200 shows all sold out!
Think you hit all the points spot on...Great high energy by Elvis as usual, he just draws you into a song like no one I've ever seen. Think it's because he puts so much emotion and passion into every performance and he just makes it all so much fun as well. If Elvis sings it you just have to pay attention and go with it!... It also helps he picked out a phenomenal group of musicians as well, most of whom stayed with him till the end. They all loved working with Elvis, and again I think part of that was he was great fun to work for and with, just take a look at his rehearsals, everyone's having a blast!.. Another well-thought-out reaction..thanks Patrick, much appreciated.
Thank you for another great reaction to Elvis. You assumed the mention of MGM in the title of the video meant that this was performed at the MGM Hotel in Vegas - which is an easy mistake to make. However, the MGM Hotel wasn't built until 1993. This is a clip from the documentary film 'Elvis On Tour' where he was filmed while on tour in 1972 and it was released by MGM 😊
Great reaction. I hadn't seen this clip in a while and it was just as enjoyable as all the other stuff. You've got to hear the CCR version. They were the ones that wrote it and they had a radio hit with it, but it's great because I really like all three of them so much. There are countless live video performances of a young Ike and Tina Turner and the ikettes doing Proud Mary. It's all different, it's all different links, it's different situations and venues. Some of it is TV performances in front of a live studio audience and some of it are actual live performances. It's just fascinating and then there are many from those shows that were also super popular, like, Mountain deep and river wide.
If you listen to his 1970 version that he done, probably. better still.. Thanks man. The original as far as I know is by a group called- clearance Clearwater Revival. Is that the best version? probably.

Could you imagine Elvis Presley and Tina Turner on the same stage singing this song? Everyone’s thinking the same thing! FireWorks 💥!!!!!!!
Definitely
OMG! That would have been the bomb?
Another great one is you’ve lost that loving feeling, Las Vegas performance. The Righteous Brothers version was good, but Elvis just took it to another level.

She sang at other shows as well though. Certainly the Astrodome in Houston, and that leads me to believe that there may be others as well.
@@Wildlife_SA. I KNOW THAT ..... THAT IS WHY I SENT YOU MY FIRST TEXT TO YOU SAYING ....... @nealmalik9142

You are the first person to get this right in many ...... Many years ....... That I have tried to get this out about Cissy ...... Thank You for keeping the facts ...... Fact ...... ........ NOW OUR JOB IS TO TELL THE ONES THAT DON'T KNOW THAT ..... AS THERE ARE SOOOOO MANY ....... RUMORS ........ GUESSES ....... HERE-SAY ........ OPINIONS AND JUST OUT AND OUT LIES ....... OUT THERE THEY JUST AB-LIB ANYTHING OR PASS ON THE GARBAGE WITHOUT FACT CHECKING FIRST ....... THEY WANT TO GET IN THE LIMELIGHT RATHER IT IS A FACT OR NOT ...... AS MOST WERE NOT EVEN AROUND WHEN ELVIS WAS LIKE I WAS ...... IT IS MIND-BLOWING JUST HOW MUCH THEY DON'T KNOW ....... YET POST THEIR GARBAGE ANYWAY ...... CREATING RUMORS BEYOND BELIEF ......
Thank you
Great reaction Pat! Elvis the greatest performer ever, not to mention his voice, just one of a kind! He was once asked who he sounded like and his response was, "I don't sound like nobody!" How true that is! 😊
Thank you for the video my respect to you thank you.
Rip elvis
Rip Tina turner
Love it how Elvis's musicians and backup singers seem to have such a good time when they're performing with him ... he really had love and respect for the people he worked with ! TCB forever !
Thank you very much for all your amazing reactions to Elvis! Would you please react to "Solitaire" by Elvis
Thank you very much!

EP is a bad @$$ man!! FIRE!
Please react Elvis singing "Bosa Nova" and" Edge of Reality" thank you
The song was done by Creedence Clearwater Revival excellent excellent job then Tina Turner grabbed a hoppedon it and Gave a whole new her loving style.
- SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU -----
Cissy did leave end of Aug. 1969 & Elvis did take on a 4th singer whose name escapes me.
PEACE!
WOW I am so happy you are back with ELVIS! I hope you will do more! You are the best!! ❤
Thank you for the reaction to Elvis keeping his music alive he was the best have a great evening
Cissy Houston sang with Elvis in 69 in Vegas, then she left the group, she wasn't there in 1972
Love your reactions man. This ,man is definitely one of the greatest performers of all time. If you have some spare time please do its over live in Honolulu 1973. Much appreciated
Great reaction man. Way to break it down.
totally dynamic reaction👌👌👌
His music is always great that’s the thing you can always always count on a good performance with any song he sings. He has the best and so beautiful inside and out. Try this link and put it in a couple of other comments and it is the same one however, I have several others, but this one you would like
I haven’t seen that you’ve shown up yet.
I was at all three shows at the Garden…..incredible….I’ll never forget the the camera flashes when he walked out, you were blinded.

There is only one elvis no one come close
Great reaction. Please do more Elvis Presley ❤
His energy was out of this world! Never be another like him. Thanks for a fine reaction.🔥💖

On piano Glen Hardin, on drums Ronnie Tutt, back up male singers JD Sumner and the Stamos Quartet, The Sweet Inspirations are the female backup singers and Kathy Westmoreland is the the other female backup singer!😊
**Stamps Quartet
Powerful performance by Elvis, his amazing band and backup singers! That's The Sweet Inspirations backing him up. They performed with him on everyone of his concerts from 1969 to his last show in 1977. Over 1,200 shows all sold out!
Good video: Pictures and music are not from "Madison Square Garden" but from "Elvis on Tour 1972".
Original by CCR with John Fogerty.
Great reaction!! And I love your outfit 😊
Elvis and everyone on that stage was just amazing!! Great reaction
Creedence Clear Water Revival or CCR. John Fogarty wrote Proud Mary. 1968.
Best reaction to The King! You hit it right on! Thank you for recognizing him so well!! RIP Elvis
Glenn D Hardin on piano and Ronnie Tutt on drums.
Another well-thought-out reaction..thanks Patrick, much appreciated.
the song was wrot by john fogerty and sing by his band orignal Creedence Clearwater revival tina and elvis verson was covers
Look up 1969 Memphis called just good music
Actually San Antonio, not New York.
Good reaction.
MGM meant the footage is from his ELVIS IN TOUR movie made by MGM.. NOT the casino.
If you listen to his 1970 version that he done, probably. better still.. Thanks man. The original as far as I know is by a group called- clearance Clearwater Revival. Is that the best version? probably.
Now you've got to hear the Creedence Clearwater Revival version!
you know a guy is on the good drugs when he starts wearing a cape
J. D. SUMMER - SWEET INSPIRATIONS (CISSY HOUSTON MOTHER OF WHITNEY HOUSTON)
