  • This video will show you how to swap the electronics from you Ford Ka Flip Key into a different case.
    We used an original second-hand key in good condition from eBay. This was because we tried the new replacement cases , but just didn't like the poor quality and problems the buttons not working like they should. Also the flip on the replacement cases can be a bit poor
    Hope this helps and thanks for watching

    Thank you so much.
    I managed to swap to a new case after watching your video.
    I had bought a new case (not original but identical) and I found that it was an exact copy, except it was missing the little metal contacts for the circuit board and battery.
    After struggling for a long time I managed to remove these from the olds case and press them into the new one.
    Also managed to remove the Ford badge without breaking the pins by sliding a very thin knife under it and popping it off.
    I was so scared when I went to test it as I feared I had messed up, but it worked.
    I feel awfully proud of myself right now :)

    This video really helped me! Two of my buttons had worn off so I followed your advice and bought a new case for my fob, this didn’t come with the electrical contacts attached so I had to fiddle about with it and put them in myself but overall changing over cases worked a treat with your help! Thank you

    if you buy the rubber buttons you do not need to open the key as you can lever the old buttons out and press in the new ones

    • @TheCarKeyMan
      @TheCarKeyMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, yes that's possible too, but I find that they don't always stay in place. Maybe it depend on the type you get hold of. Thanks for the input

      I did this 5min ago with a set of rubber buttons from a Ford stealership (€37,59 ... vs a replacement key for €470).
      I got the old pieces out, both with alle edges intact. Literally took me a few seconds.
      I'm kind of tempted to give the edge a couple of small drops of mild adhesive, but I doubt the buttons will fall off. But if they do, I'll find some mildly sticky goo to keep them in place.

    • @Ladosligese
      @Ladosligese 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yep .. even coding a brand new chip is easy.. some require simple things like sitting in the car .. open the door close it again 3 times.. then locking unlocking it 3 times klick the unlock button on the keyfob .. and voila :-s .. shit like that

    Iv bought a new key/fob off ebay but it doesnt come with the small electric contact. Is it better to remove it from old case into new or should I just leave it in old case and just fix the new front part with buttons to the old back section? Dont wont to damage the electronic contact

    • @TheCarKeyMan
      @TheCarKeyMan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alison, so the case you have bought off eBay, is it brabd new?

    • @alisonsmith337
      @alisonsmith337 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheCarKeyMan
      Hi yes it's new so the key would need to be cut to fit but I'd use old key anyway as only need the case to replace the lock button that's damaged. The new case doesnt come with the circuit board either but would use my old 1 as well.

    • @TheCarKeyMan
      @TheCarKeyMan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alison. OK, so the new cases are copy cases and they range from quite good, to really awful. Sometimes they don't fit together very well, or won't take the circuit board. Also, like you say, they don't have the battery connector, and they buttons are rock hard to press. So it really depends on how good the new case is before you do anything.
      When we made this video, we got a second hand genuine Ford KA key that had a good case, then we transferred all the parts. We did this because we know all the parts could be moved from one case over to the other without any issues.
      It's tricky for me to give you the correct advice, I'd be tempted to contact a local Auto Locksmith and see if they can cut the key and transfer over the bits for you, this may save you any stress!

      Hi Ticilla, it's held in with small plastic lugs that need to be snapped to get it off. I think the only way is to slide a blade underneath and force it off. This breaks the lugs, so to put it back on you'll need to glue it

    • @SBOReeves
      @SBOReeves 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TheCarKeyMan Thanks for the video - it was very useful to swap the innards from my broken key to a new eBay-sourced blank.
      One thing I thought I'd mention - I managed to save the plastic lugs on the cover by taking the battery out and then pushing the nearest lug out from the inside using a flat bladed screwdriver. I could then get a fingernail under the cover and the other two followed popped out with no damage.
