- Ford Mondeo Mk5 Broken Flip Key Replacement.
Bought a cheap flip key housing off ebay and swapped the key shank and electrical circuit board from the damaged key into the new key housing.

I've got a similar flip "my key" for my fiesta and the key shank wobbles like a junky in a chemist. From what I see in the tear down I guess the roll pin is worn. Cheers Alan for helping us with our Ford dilemmas.

amazing....Thank you very much.....the part about putting the old, cut key shaft, into the new fob was great. Saves me finding a place that cuts these types of keys and of having to go to the Dealership and get ripped off........owe ya a cheap beer!

took mine apart because I accidentally washed it, so I could soak the board in rice. Accidentally knocked the spring off, spent an hour messing with it before I decided that there may be a video showing me how to fix it. Glad I found this lol.

Glad I got two of the blank keys off ebay because I sure broke the eff out of the first metal bracket whilst clamping it down. Saved me about $500US tho mate - I owe you a beer!!

Thank you kind sir. I am in the middle of trying to remove that little pin. Good thing I bought a vice from Walmart the other day. If this goes wrong, I’m going to blame you... and then I’m going to find you in England, or wherever you are. I will demand that you repair my key at no charge. Granted, it will cost me an arm and a leg to fly over the pond, but I am pretty determined. I might even ship my F150 and show you exactly the problem I’m having with this cheap, ridiculous key. Just change the shank from the original into a new fob as the micro switches on the fobs go bad all the time. So if you already have a replacement key you might as well kill 2 birds with one stone. Most of the snap on scanners allow key coding. Saves damage to the bord when taking the key apart.

CRITICAL notice: at 4:51 in order for the key to work properly you must FIX the tension of the spring by rotating 2 times clockwise (90+90 degrees). You ll need a griping tool.. thx for the guide

ITS A MYSTERY....
I just bought a new to me (a 2013) Fusion with this type of key and fob, wish I still had the older type key from my 2009 Crown Victoria...no programming because there is no electronics involved.
And it's just my opinion, but I wish Ford U.S. had made the hatchback or estate model of the Fusion available here.

I bought one of these keys last week on ebay as I damaged my car also lol... I wasn’t aware of the little bit on the actual key that you can take out and swap with the original...until I watched this video... best video I’ve seen regarding these keys....

Try it on a transit custom key! Sealed for life, you have to break the key to get to the battery which has a habit of breaking one of its contacts.
I brake mine when I get out of the car with my keys on a key chain or my id neck strap

Hello. Hal would like to share something with you regarding the mondeo mk4 key. From the start when I got my used mondeo mk4 2012, I have never liked the key that comes with these cars and how it sticks out of the ignition lock. It doesn't look pretty either. when it sits in the ignition lock, it sticks out relatively far and sits at an angle downwards. The problem is that you almost always hit the key with your knee. I have the seat a little further back than many others I have seen, so I don't hit the key. my friend sits further forward and hits the key. This is not so well made by Ford.
The same with the steering wheel adjustment where you pull a handle down to adjust the steering wheel. The lever sticks out a few centimeters and does not sit like you are used to from other cars. you can also hit it with your knee if you sit too far forward. Normally, it sits in a hole in the plastic cover. Poorly designed by ford.

My Mk5 Titanium is keyless and went into limp home mode when the key fob battery was low . This threw up a spanner symbol on the dashboard along with a low key fob battery message on screen.
Have you ever come across this and why the hell did Ford program the ECU to go into limp mode for a non engine fault?
Replaced the keyfob battery and all is fine.
not come across this problem but none of the models we have are keyless but yeah maybe a red warning light on the dash would be better than putting the car into limp mode
Inside the key fob on the key less ones is a hidden key, does it fit anywhere as there are no keyholes and the ignition is a push button ?
i am sure on the mk5 mondeo you have to remove the smaller outer door pull handle cover to access the key hole...i think i will do vid on this as it is not obvious and a bit tricky to get to

Ahh, Ford cost cutting ,use the key from the old Volvo S40 / V40 which went out of production in 2004 😀 they never broke on those, may be the lock is poorly positioned on the ford and your knee hits the key when you get in or out ?
Wish they'd sell the hatchback version in the US. We only get the sedan for some reason.
I thought all Mk5 Mondeos were keyless. Mine is an St-line which is pretty much a poverty spec zetec with a bodykit and it's keyless.
Bit of advice for you and your keyless mondeo you need to remove your obd2 power fuse as keyless fords can be very easily stolen via the obd2 port
