    Use a narrow would chisel to remove the caulking, removing a little at a time is easier than removing the width of a putty knife.

    I found the best way to remove Dicor from my Phaeton was with an oscillating tool with a scraper blade. It made short work of the job and didn't damage the fiberlgass.

    After watching your video, maybe Wingard will make a simple adaptor that will allow people with the original mount like you have to bolt the Razor to the existing mount. No drilling, no dicor, just a couple of bolts-Done. I wish they made one that would bolt to the existing bat-wing antenna. Then it would be up above any roof obstructions and down for travel. Great video David, thanks for posting, say hey to Brenda.

    Maybe if you set the legs on a bed of dicor and let the screws sandwich and compress sealant between the roof and the bracket it may have been a little tidier. Then cover it with more. Maybe a better seal too. Great video. Always informative.

    at 23 minutes, when you figured out that the new system will fit over the old system, you should have then, figured out a way to attach the new bracket to the old bracket, and then installed the antenna. thus, eliminating the need to put in more screw holes and to glue down the new stand.

    • @Derfargin1

      While watching this, I was thinking the same thing. I would have cut the legs off off the new Rayzar Bracket and screwed the newly modified plate to the old bracket legs that were on the roof. Could have used flat head metal screws and perhaps drilled a recess hole prior to mounting so everything sits flush. I'm not a fan of putting extra holes in a roof if I don't have to.

In this case, I did not know the stand would go over the other mount until I had it all pulled apart. As such, I admit, I did not think it though and just went forward. I was just happy I did not need to get the Dicor off. So yup, I put in 9 small screw holes I did not need to. Did not think of it during a live non-stop shoot. Even if I did, I likely would want the structure engineered by Winegard for the product. It does have more size and this resistance to wind when driving then the old, much thinner one would.

    Where do you have the video clip of the inside install. I have a Winegard distribuion box and would like to keep it? However it and the Rayzar both need the use of the same DC volt supply.

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, not sure what you are asking as I show the inside install in the video... th-cam.com/video/pDDAngQBYdM/w-d-xo.html But my install would be different than yours anyway as the coach is different. All you need is 12V so not sure on your issue as you would still plug it into the distribution as you still need to send it though the coach.

  • @mikepaddack1827
    @mikepaddack1827 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    David now that you have had the Rayzar for several months, any issues? Also shouldn't the unit be raised so the roof AC units don't block the TV signals?

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi...I have not had any issues with the unit and it continues to preform well. As as far as the AC's, you can only go so high, so you really will have an issue with any such antenna unless unless you can crank it up higher. But it actually is above the AC slightly. But for the most part, most HD transmission towers are located at the highest points of elevation. As such, you "should" be ok for the most part.

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not needed at all. I just left it until I have something to put in the hole. :-) Yes, I thought about cutting it as it would come off quickly with a Dremel. I just replace 12yr old saucer antenna with this one, only 40 miles from DFW metro, and live on Hill too, No signals at all, but installer got 64 signals, at the most 10miles difference. I got 4 channels with old one. do U think the stand would give us better chance of a signal??

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      40 miles is a very far for this size antenna. You for all you know you could be pointing the antenna right at the AC unit and that would surely not be good. I have no idea what you have as a RV or motor coach and if it has roof risers or not on the sides. You surely would like the antenna up as far as you could for like I mentioned, and AC could be blocking it for all I know. But 40 miles is a distance and I have no way to know what is between you and the towers, at the installers, nothing may be in the way.

      @DavidBott  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thehirm Hi...When you say "...but we took it out on a trip..." do you mean this antenna? Just wondering. If so, then it sure seems to be working right and thus would point to an interference issue then currently.

      @@DavidBott 1st we took it back to the installer they showed me, still hook-up to my trailer, it got 64 signals, 40 miles from Dallas,. We got 18 signal, at home, and 4 UHF channels, which we are 40 miles from Ft.Worth, Old antenna got 5 channels but had some local channels too! So I reset the Rayzar reset, than I had nothing. Still have nothing, No-time to return at that point before our trip to the Eastern Oklahoma, At camp to our surprise, we go 5 channels all from Arkansas , this much farther than 40miles plus thick forest and very steep hills, which they call Mountains. now home we still have no signal from the antenna, tried several times.....

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thehirm Hi...Not sure what to tell you. You can move 5 miles and have different reception as it is all based on what may be between you and the transmitting tower. Are you rescanning for signals on the Rayzar controller? Hold down SEARCH button for 5 seconds and when it starts the LEDs spinning around, let go. This will rescan for signals. After that it should auto point in the direction that it could see the most frequencies. (Not channels mind you but the channels run on Frequencies so the more of them you have, the more of a chance of more channels in that direction.) Then you need to be sure your TV is on AIR, not cable, and tell it to SCAN FOR CHANNELS. It may also be called OTA Channels. (Over The Air) At that point you get what you can. You also can press an arrow button to move to the next direction that had the most frequencies and scan on your TV again and see what you get. But yes, you could move just a few miles and based on the direction you are parked or what is between you and the towers, you can run into issue. Even more so if the Rayzar is mounted near an AC unit and it is pointing right at it. Seeing it has a lot of aluminum it becomes a shield. Can't do much for you other than explain like I have. You may care to give a call to Winegard but it is likely you will be told the same.

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure what you are asking. For when you get somewhere and let it scan it then selected the the direction with the most number of frequencies it can see. You then tell your TV to SCAN for Over The Air channels and it will find the ones it can see. The TV is only going to see what the antenna can pull in. You can move the antenna left or right to try to fine tune a channel if it is week...But no needed to re-scan usually unless you move.

      @@DavidBott At 16:48 you hit the button and it picked up the other frequencies. Is the antennae picking up channels from all the towers or just from the one that is showing green on the indicator?
      My other question is why that antennae and not the Winegard 360 which is about a third the price?

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stefantrestyn5726 This is a DIRECTIONAL antenna. It moves. As such when you run a SCAN it moves the antenna in slowly in 360 degrees and takes frequency readings. When it is done it tells you how many frequences it can see the most of and in what direction. Do not confuse "frequency" with "Channels" as a frequency can carry more than one channel. So it is showing you the direction that has the most frequencies as that should the the direction that you would receive the most channels. So I can MOVE it to the next stored location that has other frequencies and thus like may have different channels and the one I watch the most.
      The Wingard 360 is a OMNI DIRECTIONAL antenna listening all directions at one time. As such, it is not as powerful, nor does it have the range, of a directional antenna. A directional antenna has a higher gain as it is focused (pointed) towards the tower sending the signal. Thus the cost of a motorized, automatic, antenna.
      To get the idea of a directional antenna, cup you hand around your ear towards the direction you want to hear and you can hear better. Kind of the same idea as you are now able to collect more sound waves, frequencies, into your ear. :)
