What a great match. I really can't think of anyone else doing 2-player paper content of this kind of diversity and quality, I hope the workshop keeps putting these out for years to come.
Needed to gush those islands back to hand in response to wastelanded game 2. It gets countered but you still have at least a chance of casting an oracle.
Needed to put Oracle earlier in his final pile in game 3, it can win with 1-2 cards in library and Thoralf was already dangerously low against a revealed Bowmaster.
Love seeing vintage content, keep it up please! @22:00 Because Doomsday is such a complicated card to resolve, It’s always fun to dissect what the best line might’ve been. Thoralf’s pile was Gush, Ancestral, Fatal Push, Black Lotus, Thassa’s Oracle. This pile plays around flusterstorm and removal, but obviously not around wasteland. Another pile might be: Timewalk, Ancestral Recall, Thassa’s Oracle, Black Lotus, Flusterstorm. This line loses to Flusterstorm + Bowmasters, but plays around Wasteland and Mindbreak Trap, and gives you a chance to win even if your first two cantrips get countered.
Thanks Mengu, I Love seeing Old Magic. I'm an old fart and fondly remember opening packs of unlimited and fallen empires as a young lad. It's Great seeing content creators appreciating the vintage stuff!
Yo Mengu, I just want to say Ty for Vintage videos. I played only Vintage cube, but I managed to play like 3-4 power nines. If I had never seen your vid I would had never played Vintage cube, because I thought it was WAY too powerful.
i read that as thoralf getting shut out by vexing bauble so the doomsday wouldn't have won him the game, instead he opted to push the frog to stop mengu from getting further ahead.
@@JohnFromAccounting he doesn't have counterspell backup, he can't use black lotus, and the incoming wasteland just seals the deal. andrea could easily draw into another counterspell with frog too.
I'm not playing and will ever play vintage but your gameplay videos are always nice to watch if not the nicest (if this is a word) to watch. Competitive content on point.
When I first started playing magic, I played with three other friends: two of us, my neighbor and I, essentially would always buy cards at the same time and play each other daily, one of us had basically bought a bunch of his own, and the other was gifted a box of cards and played with us. Needless to say, my friend who was gifted his shoe box of cards had a play set of dark rituals, creatures with shadow, snake tokens, and jester’s caps. I played g/w, my neighbor liked u/b, the loner liked angels, and the guy with all the cards who won every single game we ever played with him played, you guessed it, mono black. Eventually Legions was released and we all managed to anthem him out a few times, but wow, talk about what was really us Type 2 players fighting against this just wild Type 1 deck. Good times.
14:15 could thoralf have cast gush to return the two underground seas to his hand to protect them from the wasteland even though it would be countered by vexing bauble? I thought it would be a good line considering he knew he was out of lands at this point
That’s what I came here to say. He’s still behind at that point, but if he drops below two blue sources, it’s lights out anyway. Since picking up two islands is part of the alternate cost, that will always happen even if the spell gets countered.
Why no sideboard recap this time? I enjoy seeing the sideboarding and the reasoning as it’s one part of the game I struggle with and your explanations help me to improve.
Reminder that Thassa’s oracle wins with 0-2 cards still in library. Obviously the second wasteland was very good for Mengu, but you could win by stacking the library differently.
In the last game, it's acceptable to make an incomplete pile. This means that Thassa's Oracle hits the battlefield with 2 cards in the library. You don't need to dig as far but it doesn't play around removal. Removal is bad against Doomsday, so it's not something you need to play around.
game 2, when mengu wastes thoralf's undercity sewers, could thoralf not cast gush in response to protect it? bauble would counter the gush, but the cost could still be paid.
Can someone explain why Toralf chose to draw 3 cards on his upkeep? How is that any different to drawing on his endstep or maybe in response to a spell cast by Mengu?
Honest question, would it not have been better to put Thassa 2 from the bottom and put one of the dead draws he had at the bottom? Yeah you don't win if she gets removed before the trigger resolves, but Andrea hadn't shown a single piece of removal all game, and with Street Wraith shut down you can't guarantee you get to the bottom of the deck.
I think so but then he would have been beaten by a removal spell. Simply put if Toralf put his Thasa’s oracle second from bottom and the black lotus 3rd he would have gotten arround wasteland and could have casted the oracle and won. But he would have lost to any creature removal.
Oh yes please more vintage and more content with the cardmarket crew!
Next two weeks you ll have more vintage and more cardmarket crew guaranteed!
And Or spice would be nice 🎉
Man, never in a million years I would've thought Pithing Needle naming Street Wraith would be so back breaking
16:58 a spirit in the frame next to Toralf reveals himself!
That spirit looks like Karl a bit...
THEY ARE WITH US !!!
The ghost of Karl's past, present, and future
So great to see Toralf in the Workshop, he always carries such good vibes
It would have been so funny if you asked Toralf to do the ad read for you 🎉
What a great match. I really can't think of anyone else doing 2-player paper content of this kind of diversity and quality, I hope the workshop keeps putting these out for years to come.
I hope so too!

I've been hype for this collab to start airing, looking forward to the rest of the tournament!
"while he is going to discard, lets talk about this card" is some of the funniest shit i ever heard
We gotta talk about that consultation instead of doomsday when he was tapped out haha
I don’t understand the play
Punt punt punt
i read that as thoralf getting shut out by vexing bauble so the doomsday wouldn't have won him the game, instead he opted to push the frog to stop mengu from getting further ahead.
@@Starkipraggy Doomsday still wins the game with a PTT pile, even with a Wasteland.

Yes I love that you guys are all friends! You guys make the best content and all have such great vibes!!!
I love watching thia channel, one of my top 3 magic channels to watch. Thanks for the content!
I'm not playing and will ever play vintage but your gameplay videos are always nice to watch if not the nicest (if this is a word) to watch. Competitive content on point.
Seeing paper vintage played with this degree of high quality production and players?!
Yes please!!
SUPER, SUPER fun. Thank you for these high quality content.
Todo mi apoyo desde España.
Ah, it's so nice to see some cool guests on this channel
Non giocherò chiaramente mai questo formato, come quasi tutti, per cui è bellissimo vederlo in cartaceo e fa pure venire voglia di proxy❤
Toffel punted a lot for such a good player, great video as always.
One of the best vids on youtube! I love vintage please play more especially with card market!
Gotta love seeing paper vintage
Cool game! I love seeing all the power nine cards getting some action
This was so fun to watch. Thank you for the wonderful content.
Finally, the sequel in the cardmarket cinematic universe.
Doomsday is my favourite deck. It's great to see Thoralf piloting it. I like his style of play.
This was a truly magical set of games. My eyeballs feel blessed having witnessed such play.
Love watching vintage. More legacy too please!
Glad to see you two play together, it's always a fun time
I've been looking forward to this!
"While Thoralf discards, check out dis card" 😂
This was a lot of fun and im excited to see what else is being played in the tournament!
Amazing content, Andrea. Long live to the workshop!
8:45 "that's from ice age, never reprinted"-mengu referring to demcon. It has a secret lair printing and a mystery booster two reprinting as well.
Secret lair arent real, they cant hurt you
MB2 isn't a real reprint when it's not a retail set.
Love it. even though I am not super into vintage. watched it for the ppl and the set up!
Great veedeo as usual mengu im so excited to see your next upcoming vintage videos
Hi Carl!! (Saw Carl's reflection in poster) 16:57
Hello Carl!
When I first started playing magic, I played with three other friends: two of us, my neighbor and I, essentially would always buy cards at the same time and play each other daily, one of us had basically bought a bunch of his own, and the other was gifted a box of cards and played with us. This is an all-timer crossover episode
brilliant video, the mind games xD really enjoyed this
I see Thoralf, I click the youtube video. I see Andrea, I click the like button. I am a simple man.

I normally don't like vintage because it's overpowered, but this match was really entertaining. Thanks Thoralf and Andrea!
Overpowered magic is so fun !
Another reason to cast Ancestral on the opponent’s turn is to play around Force of Negation.
Time Walk has always been "take an extra turn". Starburst was the red version which existed at the same time read "target opponent loses next turn".
Game 2 toralf could have gushed to save one of his lands and possibly won by casting thoracle
Thought so too but maybe he missed it due the vodka penne
what a great game! the third one was so close!
Why no sideboard recap this time? I enjoy seeing the sideboarding and the reasoning as it’s one part of the game I struggle with and your explanations help me to improve.
My 2 favorite pros in one room
Watch Mengu this week saying pithing needle is bad, admittedly was modern but i love the juxtaposition 😂
I love how the frog has made a fair lurrus deck a tier 1 option in vintage
13:10 Was there a reason Toralf didn't Gush here? Just to save the land?
That surveil land pitch was smooth lol.
Daje menguuuu facce vede sto baaaazarrrrr!
Next monday!
those topdeck wastelands at the end lol
Reminder that Thassa’s oracle wins with 0-2 cards still in library. Obviously the second wasteland was very good for Mengu, but you could win by stacking the library differently.
16:57 A carl appears
Please keep the paper vintage and cardmarket collaboration content coming
For the next two week vintage with them!
Oh yes next weeks bazaar ❤
I been splashing a few of the surveil lands in legacy been great
Great veedeo as always (i still haven't watched it)
It’s crazy that they casually are playing with black lotus without flinching
That Black Lotus seems good I might buy a playset.
Yes, I know

lotus + thoracle instead of push and he wins with one turn to spare instead of being one turn too slow. Devastating.
More vintage 🔥💯
I think I've never seen a game of paper vitage before, but this game certainly sets high standards.
Make sure to check out our previous Vintage video too on this channel :)
@@MengusWorkshop I must've missed those!
8:45 Actually reprinted twice. Once in a Secret Lair and again in Mystery Booster 2.
Hell yeah more vintage ^^
game 2, when mengu wastes thoralf's undercity sewers, could thoralf not cast gush in response to protect it? bauble would counter the gush, but the cost could still be paid.
Is it my birthday? I just got to watch 12 rounds of Vintage from Eternal Weekend, now I get an entire Mengu Vintage video?
Wouldn't Fatal Push be counted 9:37 because no mana was spent to cast it?
There are so many new player friendly channels out there that I don't think the extra explanation on cards was really necessary.
cool video thanks you for the content
with the knowledge that you didn't have any fetchables left in G2 did you consider gushing just to save the undercity sewers from wasteland?
I want some vodka penne too. With lobster and scallops
preordain/ponder vs gush in the g3 pile was a win through waste land.
The top camera is such a hard viewing angle. It's easier to follow if it was turned like how coverage is.
Demonic Consultation has been reprinted twice now. Secret lair and Mystery Booster 2. 🙂
Paper vintage
Awesome video as always. But no explanation on the side board?
Retention during sideboard has always been low and we decided to skip it lately
Love this.
Ah, classic thoracle turn 2 win
Why wasn't toralf using the gush to save his lands from wasteland?
Thoralf Missing ABCD earlier in game 2 lol. Always Be Casting Doomsday
15:30 What's that on the top right lol
Wasn't timewalk originally red too?
They did reprint Demon-con in mystery booster 2
17:40 did thoralf really not know that pithing needle shuts down cycling? ^^
Can someone explain why Toralf chose to draw 3 cards on his upkeep? How is that any different to drawing on his endstep or maybe in response to a spell cast by Mengu?
To not discard hand size and because of my force of negation
Can someone explain how you can have Lurrus as a companion when you have Lorien Revealed, FoW, mindbreak trap, etc. in your deck?
The companion restriction only applies to the permanents in your deck. You can play any Instant or Sorcery that you like.
Yaaay, Vintage
It's one Magic deck Michael, how much could it be? 50 000 dollars?
So no interaction with artifacts besides being able to counter them from the Doomsday deck? Seems like Mengu's Pithing Needles won him the games.
I was thinking the exact same thing
I keep hearing how Island is the best card in Magic but Wasteland carried those comebacks lol
Blue mana, the format
Would you try a fans modern deck? If so can you try out mine?
Vintage ❤
Toralf forgets that you dont need a empty deck to win with thassa, a one card deck can also win with 2 devotion
Is there a doomsday pile thoralf could have grabbed to play around wasteland?
I think so but then he would have been beaten by a removal spell. Simply put if Toralf put his Thasa’s oracle second from bottom and the black lotus 3rd he would have gotten arround wasteland and could have casted the oracle and won. But he would have lost to any creature removal.
9:30 can't we just rip doomsday and set up a pass the turn pile that plays around wasteland
