I have come to realize, that I'm a much better driver in my imagination than I am in the car. Despite 'practicing' in Rfactor 2 on both the Magny-Cours GP and Dijon-Prenois circuits I didn't manage a much better effort than last year, even though I thought I was determined to do so. Reality appears to be a different thing than a virtual environment. And although I followed a mild physical preparation, I felt it was hard to cope with the hot July temperatures in France of 30+ degrees Celsius, in a racesuit and race-underwear. Experiences like this provide me with a lot of respect for professional racecar drivers, who withstand these challenges for complete race distances.
This time the digits on the steering wheel didn't correctly correspond with the selected gear. Sometimes it showed one gear less or more than in fact was the case. That was quite confusing for me.
I definitely needed confidence in my braking, because one week earlier in Dijon-Prenois the brakes on this same car didn't give me any confidence at all. Perhaps new brake pads? I can only guess. And I wasn't the only contender that day mentioning this. But in Magny-Cours the brakes worked just fine. Nevertheless I kept extra margin while approaching the Adelaide. That's why I ignored the ideal line at the end of the preceeding straight and chose to brake in the middle of the track instead. Should I have failed to effectively operate the brake pedal (which needs so much force for a decent decelleration and is so close to the throttle pedal, that I need my left foot to stay completely left on the brake pedal to prevent operating the throttle pedal at the same time), I saw more tarmac-run-off-area there than the gravel run-off-area in the extension of the ideal braking zone. In addition to trusting the brakes and grip level a bit; the engine ran better in laps 3 and 4 than in the first 2 laps.
All in all I wish this day could be my personal time loop (like in the movie 'Groundhog Day') and thus improve day by day. Yeah, this day had it all for me; on holiday in France with my family, heading for the race track on beautiful country roads, my son joining me to the track, driving Formula Renault in drizzle, rain and dry weather conditions and of course driving the Benetton B198 as highlight of the day.

Braking at 5:15 was good man! When you watch the video afterwards yourself one is thinking that, damn it looks very slow. I know myself after driving a Williams at Anderstorp. But while one is driving.. its feels crazy fast :D

I thought it was a pretty good effort. Having driven an older F1 car, the 2-3 laps does not give you time to acclimatize. Better to keep it on the black stuff, than stick it in the wall... I was quicker in the Formula Vauxhall than I was in the F1 when I did it! :) The Formula Vauxhall however I was comfortable in, and had more laps...

Most attendents of F1 Driving Experiences drive better lap times in the Formula Vauxhall/Renault than in the (old) F1 car. And although I haven't checked lately, I guess, I'm not an exception. I think that the cause is the accelerated taking or skipping of several steps of the motorsport ladder. And, just like you, I feel much more comfortable and confident in a Formula Vauxhall/Renault. Despite this, I can't resist the temptation of driving and feel the impressive power of an F1.

looking at the way he slowly enters the corner (obviously he doesn't want his neck to be in trouble), I can't imagine how the f1 driver can handle it with such incredible speed so confidently and physically.

I was more worried about my talent running out of tarmac, than about my neck being in trouble ;-) And yes, you are right; it's far beyond imagination, what a Formula 1 driver physically and confidently has to cope with... Even after a driving experience like this which only reveals, it's not as easy like it seems on television or simulator...
Originally I planned to do this this year after seeing these videos last year, but I found a half-amateur racing series in my country where I entered twice with a small formula car (slower than FR2.0) and was kinda humbled with what even that small formula with not too much of downforce can do. I think I will do a couple of more races with them and then maybe I will finally decide to try this experience and actually have enough confidence to give it some and get some Gs going in the turns :).

@@dreamitraceit that is a World Series Renault with 3.5 V8 engine with about 500hp (I think) of Szymon Urbaniak. They were in the adjacent box, so when they finally fired up after they assembled the car properly, in the middle of the night ... 😅
@@dreamitraceit Also the car races in a different subcategory, all Formulae are one big category, so they race all together, but they are ranked in subcategories. So it happens that if you have only 3 people in a subcategory, you all get the trophy :)
@Moravak / Milan, that Word Series Renault single seater is really cool! If you can make a deal with the owner, that you can drive it on the same financial conditions like when you would drive a LRS Formula F1 Bronze category car, I guess you could save yourself a trip to France. My guess is, that the driving experience itself would be a bit like the same.

What a great track and car to be running on! Any idea what speeds you reached and what motor is in this car?Also appreciate the helmet mounted camera as when applying the brakes the veiwer can sense the negative G's your neck is wrestling with. Thanks for sharing

was the steering heel replaced with a modern one? never seen the inside of this car and the steering wheel looks like its was replaced with one from some sort of jr formula car, maybe the original was kept by the driver or something?

@@dreamitraceit Yep. Modern F1 is.. in a very bad state but one of the key things missing is the actual sound of F1. Screaming, high revving engines are gone
It does not sound like the original either Judd or Renault V10 engine right? Was is it swapped as it probably reached the end of its life, and maybe for cheaper or easier to maintain engine?

Hi Arn Aud, thank you for watching my video and for your question. I used a GoPro Hero 7 Black mounted on the top of my helmet with a GoPro adhesive mount. Settings: 2.7K video resolution, 60fps, HyperSmooth image stabilization and linear field of view. Be sure to check the camera is angled correctly by viewing the videos you made during your prior sessions in the Formula Renault. Good luck, Arn Aud, and enjoy. You will love it. 9 Laps! You must be fit.

Did they actually lock the higher gears? It seems to me like that cause you were trying to shift up several times but it stayed at the same gear...
Hi @Delighted Music! Thank you for watching my video and for your question. No, they didn't lock 6th gear. Just the digits on the display of the steering wheel did not correspond with the actual gear, which I did not know up front and which confused me. As a result I was not sure in which gear I actually was driving. On another day they explained me, this could happen, while up-shifting during too low revolutions. So maybe it was my own fault after exiting the pitlane.

Hi Xen, I remember a Canadian came over to France just to do an experience like this. But I do not know, if there is a way to do this in the USA. Maybe you can contact LRS Formula and ask them?

Top filmpje👍. Ik ben het volledig eens met je TH-cam kanaal tekst. Heb helaas niet het budget om zo een F1 experience te doen . Zal wel een paar duizend euro zijn. Maar mijn Ferrari 488 rit op circuit Monza was ook heel vet! Onboard daarvan heb ik ook op mijn kanaal 🎥
Hoi @Donoz82, dank je voor het kijken van mijn filmpje en voor je reactie. Super gaaf, man, jouw filmpje van je Puresport Ferrari 488 rit op Monza! En heel goede instructies/instructeur. Kon jij die tijdens jouw driving experience ook echt verstaan? Mijn ervaring is, dat ik het op de video perfect terug hoor, terwijl ik er in de auto niets van verstond door het motorgeluid. Je filmpjes van RacePlanet met de Lamborghini Huracan en Alpine A110 zijn ook super leuk. Daar zit een lekker tempo in. Die van 2020 had je wellicht niet zo'n geluk met het tempo van de te volgen auto? Hoe vergelijk jij je ervaringen bij RacePlanet, waar je een auto moet volgen, met een driving experience, waar je in 'vrije lucht' rijdt? Dit rijden in een F1 kostte zo'n 2,5K. Mocht je het je een keer kunnen veroorloven; het is zó gaaf! Ik fiets 250km in de week in plaats van dat ik die met de auto afleg. Van de bespaarde auto- en brandstofkosten gun ik me dit ;-)
@@dreamitraceit hoi Joost, klopt helaas het geluid van de auto valt weg door communicatie met instructeur. Die op Zandvoort in 2020 was mijn eerste experience. Dus toen was ik zelf een stuk trager en er zat een hele trage deelnemer achter me. Mijn vader filmde op het rechte stuk en hij kwam bijna 10 seconden later langs op het rechte stuk. Bij Lamborghini rit had ik veel tips aan de instructeur gevraagd aangezien ik zelf een trage leerling ben. En dan valt in sommige stukken ineens het kwartje. Op Monza was ik veel te voorzichtig achteraf. En ik was zo geconcentreerd op het rijden dat ik vergat te schakelen. Als ik genoeg abonnees heb om geld te verdienen wil ik terug naar Monza voor de Ferrari F8 (nog sneller) en ook wat jij doet doen in formule auto's 👏. Als je net als ik topsnelheid verslaafd bent zou ik Monza adviseren. Als je goed rijd moet met de Ferrari F8 280 km/h GPS mogelijk zijn (290 teller ongeveer). Ultieme droom van mij ? In een Bugatti Chiron 400km/h op de Volkswagen testbaan rijden net als James May, maar dat is onmogelijk 😜

Hi Figi, thank you for watching my video. At the time I booked this experience, I payed €2.375,- for it. And being on Christmas Offer I got the fourth lap in the Benetton for free. Currently LRS Formula still has the same offer. I can really recommend anyone with a drivers licence to do this. Even if it's 'only' once in a lifetime.

Yes, you are right; this is a boyhood dream come true :-) However, I am very sorry, I cannot help you with settings in Assetto Corsa; due to private circumstances I have not been able to do simracing for more than a year and a half by now... I hope, you can drive an open wheeler car for real some day. I can only tell, it's worth every penny... ;-)
Was it fitted with the original v10 or v8?

Hi Risi, thank you for watching my video. I guess the laptime difference between real life and RF2 was more than 10 or 20 seconds a lap, but I must admit, I haven't had the courage yet to check ;-) To me physical limits do play a role the faster I go and from lap 3 on, but the real reason is, that I just do not really know, where the limit of the car is. And as there is no 'reset'-button like in driving RF2, I struggled to pick up pace fast enough to do a decent job in 'only' four laps. This didn't prevent me however of having the time of my life and I still start smiling, when remembering this day.

Ga je eerst van tevoren twee keer over acht rondes in een f3 auto rijden?
Ik zag ook een pakket voorbij voor ongeveer €5000,- om in Frankrijk te rijden. Daar ben je de hele dag onder de pannen.

@@notkimiraikkonen2745 , ik kon kiezen uit de Benetton B198 of de Prost AP04. De Prost had ik al eens gereden op dit circuit. Daarom koos ik deze keer voor de Benetton. LRS Formula biedt ook mogelijkheid in andere F1's (Jaguar V10, Prost V10 en een Williams FW33, maar daar hangt een hoger prijskaartje aan. Dat is voor mij niet te doen.
Hallo Ruud, dank je voor het kijken van m'n video en voor je enthousiaste reactie. Qua fysiek heb ik me voorbereid door op de fiets naar m'n werk te gaan (enkele reis 20 km) aangevuld met wat lichte fitness oefeningen (sit-ups, push-ups, oefeningen met lichte dumbells van ca. 4 kg). Ik kan aanbevelen om qua fysiek (zeker goed voor de nek) en reactievermogen ook voor te bereiden op bijvoorbeeld een Rotax Max racekart, maar voor mij viel die mogelijkheid helaas weg. Qua baankennis inderdaad veel TH-cam filmpjes bekeken tot ik de baan kon dromen en proberen af te kijken, wat qua snelheid mogelijk is. En op de simulator hetzelfde circuit gedownload en met diverse eenzits-raceauto's getraind voor reactievermogen en baankennis. Graag had ik dit 1 op 1 omgezet naar een even zo netjes resultaat op de baan, maar daar ben ik kennelijk net even te geremd en voorzichtig voor. Bij een F1 Experience van LRS Formula rijd je 's ochtends 2 maal een kwartier met een Formule Renault op het circuit om 's middags na de lunch in de F1 te rijden. Op zich maakt dit een dagvullend programma, hoewel je natuurlijk het grootste gedeelte van de dag aan het wachten bent. Maar dat is vaak zo met racen... ;-) Ik heb in de tussentijd er wel van genoten, hoe de anderen het deden.

:-) Hi Aaron, thank you for your response and for watching my video. Some cones are very helpful for indicating braking points and steering points to an inexperienced driver like me. While overtaking the Prost I would have wished the cone on the tarmac was out of my way... ;-)

Die Strecken Magny-Cours GP und Dijon-Prenois bieten lange Geraden, um eine tolle Geschwindigkeit zu erreichen.

Hi, thank you for your response and for watching my video. Yes, you are right; a Ford Cosworth V8 engine has been mounted in this Benetton B198 F1 chassis, instead of the original engine. Otherwise I could most probably have not been able to afford the ride... ;-)

Hi Saaber95, thank you for your response and for watching my video. Judd does have a F1 pedigree, just not matching the era of this particular B198. Quoting Wikipedia: In 1988, in conjunction with March Engineering, Judd made the move into the recently reintroduced normally aspirated variant of Formula One, which would completely replace turbocharged cars in 1989. By using the existing BV V8 as the starting point for their new F1 engine, Judd saved cost while at the same time producing a customer engine that could compete on track and in the marketplace with the Ford-Cosworth V8s that were standard equipment for the (mostly smaller) teams competing to the new rules.

Я пытался подготовиться, практикуя рфактор 2. Это помогает получить идеальные линии. Однако ощущение скорости и ускорения сложно смоделировать.

Hi Riropower, many thanks for watching my video and for your question. I bought off the deductible as far as possible with additional insurance, but if I had incurred damage, I would still have had to pay a remaining deductible of €2,000. That certainly played a part, why I didn't drive faster ;-)

Hi, you are absolutely right, that this Benetton B198 is not in full original spec. It is the F1 chassis, which LRS Formula founder Laurent Redon drove himself, when he was test driver for the Benetton F1 Team. Nowadays this Benetton is propelled by a Cosworth V8. The original powertrain is too expensive to run and maintain plus is practically impossible for a novice to get their head around how to drive it in 3-4 laps. Along with the fact that the original engine is far too much power for the average human to manage.

Hi, thank you for watching! At this moment (Christmas offer lasting probably up to 3rd of January 2021) the price level of LRS Formula at their website is €2.375,- for 3 laps and as long as the offer lasts you get the 4th lap for free; so this means at the moment €2.375,- for 4 laps in this Benetton B198 powered by a Cosworth V8, and 2 sessions of approximately 15 minutes in a Formula Renault.
Or did you mean video resolution of 4K? I filmed in 2.7K, which apparantly is not supported by TH-cam, so the max you can view my video, is in 1440P.

Dans ma description de la vidéo, j'ai mentionné ceci: "les chiffres sur le volant ne correspondaient pas correctement au rapport sélectionné. Parfois, il montrait un engin de moins ou de plus que ce n'était en fait le cas. C'était assez déroutant pour moi."
