That was quite an interesting video. It reminded me of our life in Moldova. I am an American who moved to Moldova three years ago. My wife and I live in a village home where we grow our own crops, pick our own fruit, raise our own chickens, gather our own nuts and berries, and make our own wine. It's a simple life filled with simple pleasures. I love it.
The fact that you found a wife in today’s modern age who will agree to live with you in the village in a simple life is miraculous. I say 1 in 10 million odds. You’re a lucky man.
Your phone videos have nice clear picture, thanks for the look around these village homes! I know you were uncomfortable trespassing a little, maybe not harming anybody peeking in on these abandoned lots and ruined buildings and I appreciate your efforts Olga. Ukraine is always a beautiful and interesting place.
I want to buy a house and property in Ukraine, so I'm watching all your videos about that. At the end of this video, you mentioned prices, with an example, living one hour from New York city, or Chicago. Coincidentally, yesterday a man told me he lives a one hour drive from New York, and I told him, I grew up, a one hour drive, from Chicago. I then went on to tell him, how similar those cities are. However now, there are not any small villages, only a one hour drive away, as there was, approximately fifty years ago. In Ukraine, they are still all over. There are even areas of Kiev, that have forests and lakes, where hardly any people go to. I think I will have to consult with you, in future. I know a woman in Kiev, who is a real estate agent, however, she doesn't speak English, and I don't speak Russian well. Also, I can tell, you are someone that can be trusted.
Olga, Like your channel because it shows your country. The first house is what we call a "knock down". These are bought here for the land . The house is knocked down and a new house is built. You should mention if the house or apartment come with city water or well water ,gas for heating and cooking and if the plumbing (toilet and waste water go into a sewer which would go to a treatment plant or out to a septic system. Thanks. 🇺🇸
Olga thank you for your informative videos. I'm an American single, divorced man 70. My grand parents moved from Ukraine around the first world war. Grandpa was a coal miner in Pennsylvania , built a house w/ running water, coal heated w/ same kitchen stove and an outhouse. We visited in the summer, was stinky outhouse toilet. Can't imagine walking in snow to put my butt on an icy cold toilet seat.
Most countries offer better prices for land than here in the UK, here it's very expensive, I went to see friends in Indiana, my friends have a bungalow with a large barn and close on eight acres of land, they paid around$100,000, over here that would fetch over a million
@@andrewgage6942 You’re comparing USA to UK that is just stupid. Of course, the bigger the country is the cheaper lands are sold. UK has a small landscape.
If i was to choose any area to buy a home in Ukraine I would choose near odessa. Its warmer and I like the sea in the summer. Mariupol was one of my favorites but I have not been for some years.
Good info Olga, those houses you showed would be condemned here and no one would be allowed to live in them. I must assume that people would buy them just for the land and build a modern house on the site.
Thank you for sharing Olga:)) very beautiful video of the city and all the people:)) the city reminds me of Prague with the cobblestone streets... amazing shops with the chocolates:))
The reason for being close to a big city is you are always guranteed to be able to buy groceries. Depending on a village store can be risky. I knew of a small town where the general store closed for half the year because business was slow during the winter months.
Okay, Olga. I think I'll keep thinking about a house in the 5,000 to 10,000 dollar price range. Like they say, you get what you pay for. Maybe you can do a video on the price of newer houses or how much to build a house of your own design with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and equipped with heat, water, and electricity.

Here in the U.S.A. those old, cheap houses are called "fixer-uppers". However, some of those super cheap houses I don't see how anybody would spend the money to fix it up. There is an old saying: "Don't throw good money after bad."
Houses like that in the UK would be a builder's dream and usually sell at auction. Mind you, getting mains water connected costs £5000 but that would be a minor investment given the profit on a new house on a plot that size . I am assuming the bulldozer (mentioned in another comment) got there first:)
I don't really think you can really make too much money even with a renovation project. I believe though Kiev is offering a lot of opportunities with fantastic yields. The mortgage market is still underdeveloped and prices in USD terms are down by more 70% since 2008. But in Kiev as an investment. Buying in a village is more of a lifestyle choice.

Here's another way of looking at it. It's $1,000 for the land. You could knock the old buildings down, clear out the lot and build a new house on the land.
Very good advice about looking for a place away from Kyiv, there are lots of places that are more affordable. Even kharkiv has places 30 minutes drive away that are affordable, go to a village outside of Sumy and the prices will be so much less than Kyiv and you get more for your money. Lots of the villages have a small shop or magazine as they call them where you can buy very basic things but stuff like eggs and milk you buy locally, you can even buy some meat , especially chicken in the village so if you grow vegetables it's not so difficult. 😂True, but some people do not think about it. They consider that for sure there is hot water, bathroom, heating... but house just old, so that is why someone selling it cheap

How costly is it to build a house in the village? The villages in Ukraine are quite beautiful, but I do not like the way many houses are constructed. I am wondering if it is cheaper/efficient to build a house to your specifications, or is it too hard to find a reliable contractor?

How long does it takes to get to kiev from houses you have shown?
Belle .e la natura in ucraina è stupenda. Marco
Amazing Olga love you and your videos and you are most mens dream woman
How costly is it to build a house in the village? The villages in Ukraine are quite beautiful, but I do not like the way many houses are constructed. I am wondering if it is cheaper/efficient to build a house to your specifications, or is it too hard to find a reliable contractor?
Great video
