    This was randomly suggested in my feed and I just stopped in to say it's cool to see Guillows still around and people still building them. Brings back fond memories of converting their 300 series FF kits to u-control with a Cox 0.020 and flying them in the hangar back in the mid 90's. I don't remember how long the lines were, but they flew really, really well.

    Cool, for those that don't know . A bird dog was a very dangerous job to have in Vietnam. No armor or weapons onboard. Scouting for enemy troops , hoping to draw small arms fire and hoping nothing else bigger. Probably the most feared weapon in N Vietnam. My respects.

    I added another flight video to my youtube channel. Enjoy

    Hinges. I used old telephone solid wire ca'd. Just on rudder and elevators. Then test glide and tweek till you get a nice wide turn. Worked on a Gillows Champ. IIRC, I CG'd on the spar.

    I agree with previous post. The glide was very nice which is a good start. Do you braid and lubricate your rubber? I believe you need longer and stronger motor.

      I didn't braid, but I did lube. You're right, its under powered. Thanks for your comments!

      @@kitchentablebalsabuilds Braiding is an easy exercise. Lots of good videos here to learn how to do it. The model looks great.

      Thanks! I went back to a 5" prop and eventually did get a :20 flight. May try braiding as well. @@aviatorsandastronauts

      @@kitchentablebalsabuilds I just attended a Flying Aces Club contest in NY. It was a bit of a drive from VA but attending such an event was a master class in building and flying. At my disposal was decades of experience from the other members.

      Quick question, Doyle. I've had several rubber breaks at the knot. Do you have any recommendations about how to tie and where to place the knot? Thanks!

      @@kitchentablebalsabuildsDo you mean the rubber breaks while you are winding?

  • @SCIGS30
    @SCIGS30 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice job, the glide looks good but also looks a little windy. 1/8 Rubber is good for the D5 prop, I would probably try 4 loops of 3/32 or 2 lops of 3/16 with the D6 prop.

    • @kitchentablebalsabuilds
      @kitchentablebalsabuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your guidance! I was hoping to get feedback like this. I don't have a local source for rubber, so I think I'll go back to the D5 prop and test that first.

    I’m new to this hobby, what was the contraption you were using to wind the rubber band at the beginning of the video?

    • @tk-di8ky
      @tk-di8ky 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      A Geared Ratio winder. One turn of the hand crank turned the rubber band 3 to 5 to 7 times. Depending on the crank. Saves time. And your fingers. :-)

    Pretty good flights I think. On rubber my record is 10s and mostly it is not even 4. You did get some longer flights in there. Not sure what to do to get it to climb more other than more turns on the rubber and maybe get stronger thrust at the beginning.
    You make it look easy, but those who have tried know it isn't. Thank you for sharing!

      I'm a rookie at this, so I don't have much experience. This was the first time I achieved over 10 sec! You're right, its not easy, but I enjoy the challenges. I'm going to try more turns. Thanks for your comments!

    I’m curious, do you know how much it weighs? Our club is doing a Guillows scale event, and I’m trying to get mines lighter.

    • @kitchentablebalsabuilds
      @kitchentablebalsabuilds  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I didn't weight it, but after some trim adjustments I got a :30 flight out of it. I didn't really do anything to make it lighter except I left off the tail wheel. Thanks for your question.

    Needs a bit more power. You are barely able to sustain level flight.
