  • In a perfect world, you and your dressage horse enter the show ring prancing harmoniously as one, in reality, your horse gets tense, hollows his back, and leaves you bouncing around in the trot for the remainder of the test. In this video with para Olympian Bert Sheffield we take a look at how a few simple exercises riding the sitting trot with no stirrups will help you to improve your seat in the trot and will improve your ability to feel the connection with your horse, which ... lucky for you, it will enable you to feel the problems before the judge, or your dressage trainer can see them happen!
This fun video, will walk you through the best way to learn how to sit the trot without bouncing from warm up to perfection. Each step is important in building and developing your seat as arguably one of the most important skills in riding dressage and being a success. Happy Learning!

That was amazing! You two are SO good together, I love watching you! That was very informative! I love no stirrup work, I do sitting trot much better, actually, without them! Now if you could do one on rising trot, haha- I need very much to work on FEELING my diagonals, I am awful at them! I recently rode a more sensitive horse than I am used to, and my lack of ability to feel what diagonal I was on really killed my rhythm and the overall ride, if you have any suggestions! I am working on feeling the hind legs at the walk, but my inability to FEEL diagonals is killing me! I have only been riding for one year now, I started last July- is this something that just comes with time in the saddle, I wonder? I love your videos, they are so well explained, and BEAUTIFULLY ridden!

It makes no difference if you have disabilities or not, riding without stirrups is the best, surefire way to learn to ride with the correct body position and not bounce. It forces you to use muscles you've never used and these are the exact muscles you need to have a secure correct seat.

My coach always tells me to keep my heels down and toes up with a stirrup . Do I do the same thing without the stirrup

Disaster to ask the horse to balance BTV. Then the horse is hard to sit on- . Give the horse the possibility not to be tence.

Your horse is not in self carriage. If you dropped those reins that horse would not carry itself. The poll is not the highest point. The horse is in rollkur. So what are we talking about here?

@@DressageHub Thank you so much. I am so grateful. I really like how you explain things. I have a physical disability as well as my Autism and it's one of my dreams to get good enough at Dressage to be able to be on the Paralympic team one day. Thank you for being such an inspiration. 💗🐴
