The Komplete Kontrol A and M series have a burn-in issue with the OLED display. Make sure you unplug your controller when not in use or over time the display will become unreadable. Also, there’s an issue with Logic where you will occasionally have to restart your Mac to get the transport buttons and scroll wheel to work again.
I used to think the M32 had a deficit without the pads, but I have a Launchpad X with 64 pads. So my current LaunchKey Mini (which I take on the road) is under-utilized. The LaunchKey mini pads are really used for things other than entering midi notes. Is it any better than using the keys for drums? Not really. I’d prefer the 32 keys, the endless encoders and the NI Komplete integration over the LaunchKey Mini. I think I’ll sell my mini…😢
I bought an m32. Build quality is good but the keys are only fit for fixed velocity. Komplete control crashes logic sometimes. The mod wheel sucks. Make sure you try before you buy.
Thank you for the Video. Just note that M32 as all Komplete Controllers are not yer supported on Macs running M1. So all the functionality just isn't there. Found out the hard way!
Dude! Not at all what I thought you looked like. Bald men unite! I’d totally rock the stash, but the wife said no so I just do the full beard. Love your content! Been using logic since version 9. You have helped me learn so much! Thank you!!!! I also use the NI s61 and I have a Yamaha clavinova for pianos. I have a bunch of analog synths as well. My prophet 6 is my baby.
14:15 This is super important for people to understand. I bought the Komplete Kontrol S49 and will be returning it because it's like it's intentionally restricted in doing basic and logical things. Novation was my second choice in controller when I was looking at purchasing, and I saw how many people have the Komplete Kontrol S series keyboards, so I went with the KK. It's actually hideous in it's usability. The dedicated SETUP button is a case in point, push it and you get two options Velocity scaling and Displays brightness. Two options? on a controller of this level?. Native Instrument's forum show that people have wanted a standalone ARP for years and it's never been implemented. Anyway what suits one person doesn't always suit another.
Great Video! I have a Komplete Kontrol S61 MK2, one thing I am scratching my head on is: how do you change logic patches from the controller? Would be great to change the sounds I’m playing without grabbing the mouse. Thanks for your help and the great videos!
I'm a hobbyist and have been using GB. I did buy Logic Pro a while back when I was a student. I happened to purchase the Novation Launchkey Mini and finding the limitations to use with GB frustrating. Been watching some of your videos and to see you have the same controller and nice integration, whoa. Also, in one of your previous videos, you mentioned starting something in GB iOS and bringing it into Logic. Perhaps I can use both. Great content! Thank you.
How I wish Apple would produce a Logic dedicated cc only controller. The Marcie DAW controller protocol is OK for mixer functions but cumbersome for anything else. Mapping cc controls for performance is time consuming and often frustrating when you get conflicts.
Please remember though, the iPad does not have physical keys as a midi controller it would always be in addition to some kind of midi keyboard. The midi keyboards may integrate well with logic but I don’t like the key beds as I am more of a pianist and prefer weighted piano keys. For this reason I’m looking at the M-Audio Oxygen Pro 49. As you rightly said I just think 25 keys is a bit on the small side, especially for someone with more of a piano orientation.
Great review, lots of news for me to use. I didn’t know about the smart control assignment fix. I already had an S61 and bought an M32 as a second screen alternative. My MAJOR issue with this set up is now Komplete Kontrol always chooses the M32 when both are plugged in and that cuts out all the KK functionality of the far more competent 61. Extremely frustrating. NI says it’s a ‘known issue’ and they are ‘working on it’ but the online chatter about it goes back years so... be warned: don’t buy this for tandem use with another NI Komplete Kontrol.
I think you should repost the part of the video for the fix on the Novation. I’m sure it will help a ton of folks. I had this problem couldn’t find anything anywhere and figured it out on my own it pissed me off for a whole afternoon it did work about a year ago. As always great tips and content man keep up the hard work.

Novation could go further with Logic DAW controls. FF or RR to next Marker. Zoom in/out horizontally and vertically. There are more ideas... why not fill those custom pad and pot slots with something useful right out of the box?
imma go with the native instrumentals because i also use maschine with logic and I love how the native instruments controllers work and look i do have a maschine mk3 but i gotta figure out how too get it setup with logic pro in midi mode
I have ipad 2013 air and Logic Remote does not work on it as it is IOS 12. I use Hexier TouchOSC hexler.net/docs/touchosc which is free and has a great Logic template. You can also use this on Pre iOS 13 iPhones too. It is also easy to set up your own templates. If you use Orchestra plugins I highly recommend the entry level Arturia Keylab Essential 88 as it is easier to have all keys for all instruments rather using the octave button.
Excellent video, great explanations and objective critiques , go on with the good job dude you rock ;) , wish for a more in depth video of complete control integration thx
Nice. I ended up getting the iRig Keys IO 25 a few years ago. Integrates well with Logic also. Except...for me it drops out after an hour or 2 (sometimes sooner). :( Works great on the iPad though.
I got the oxygen pro 61. Everything works but you need to have the keyboard DAW set as P.T (Pro Tools) and you need to setup the surface controller in Logic as a HUI controller.
@@AK-pj3rf Thanks Allen. So you set it has Pro Tools on the Oxygen instead of Logic, and then where is and what does HUI controller mean in Logic? Why didn't setting the oxygen as Logic work?
PSA ; Komplete Kontrol M32’s Logic integration is not working properly with macOS 10.15 (probably Big Sur too?). it’s a known issue and the devs are working on it according to NI. When it functions as intended, it’s amazing as shown in the video and it works without an issue with Komplete Kontrol. But right now with Logic itself, you might not get the same experience.
Thanks for the heads up Josep Kim! I've been using the M32 with 10.15 without issues. But I'm about to jump into Big Sur to see what's up. Fingers crossed!
Thanks, I just bought a M-Audio Oxygen PRO 25 last week. If your video had been up a week earlier, I'd have gone for the Novation, given its better Logic integration. On the M-Audio there is really no integration out of the box, apart from really basic Mackie/HUI emulation. On the positive side, its keyboard is excellent. If you have a chance to look at the Oxygen Pro with Logic, please do. I managed to get some DAW and smart control with a custom mapping and "Learned" controller assignments but it was journey and I am not really sure if it will work long term.
Hey! Would love to hear more about the Oxygen Pro, I’m trying to decide between it and the Launchkey Mini. How are the pads? Do the faders work with certain things? 32 keys seems cool compared to 25 like Chris mentions.. I wonder if the dimensions are similar? I’m a bit concerned about the Novation’s pads being too bright at night and also the fact that they don’t map automatically or in color to drums without customization.. I’m looking for portability too. the akai’s Joy stick and pads needing too much velocity narrows it down to these two, or a Roli? Lol let me know!
@@HunterHendricksonMusic Hi! First of all, I am an absolute novice , so my opinion needs to be taken with a pinch of salt:-) The oxygen pro 25 has a very good key bed. The keys feel almost like those of an electric piano. The drum pads feel not overly sensitive to me, but I have nothing to compare them to and I never used such pads before. The knobs feel solid and responsive either for mixing or controlling plugins. A big bonus are the smart chords and arpeggiator. As I am not a good pianist, they are a great help and easy to use. The biggest drawback I see for the moment is the lack of real Logic integration. The keyboard comes with a preset called “Logic” , but it doesn’t work for Logic. In fact the quickstart manual says you have to use the ProTools preset. Feels like M-Audio haven’t quite finished their homework before releasing this controller. Another indication of that is that there is no manual provided apart from the quick start guide. With some trial and error in the preset editor I managed to get some better Logic integration but for example I haven’t figured out how to change pad colours. I hope M-Audio comes up with a real manual and a real Logic DAW integration at some point. If you are looking for mobility, the oxygen pro isn’t the greatest. It’s about 2.5 kgs and there’s no way it fits in a normal size backpack. It is however a very good controller for a small home studio and probably also for live work. It’s solidly built. There is a lighter 32key mini version but that hasn’t hit the shops yet. To conclude, despite the DAW control limitations, I am happy with my purchase, but since I would like something mobile as well, I am now saving up for a novation 😀😀.
@@hvhvgitaar thanks for the reply! Good info. Also, someone I was under the impression you had the 32 key mini! I think Sweetwater has it now. Would be interesting to see how the stack up..
My question is the Komplete control, does it use that large control dial to scan through logic presets? That’s one of the most time consuming things to me is having to mouse, click, and scroll through sounds. I’d rather it function more like the Korg Minilogue where you just turn a dial through all the patches.
Love to get the M32 but it won't fit in a good backpack so I might buy the Novation. Wondering if the 8 buttons map also in Kontakt or Komplete Kontrol to the first 8 buttons, macros?
thank you for the great video! Would you tell me what you think of the MOTU ultralite AVB? I have had one for many years working with Logic and it seems ok. Do you or anyone have any thoughts on it? Thanks
I’ve got one of the cheap korg ones as I only needed faders, and I’m really curious as I can’t find anything on MIDI CC that isn’t over my head. It integrates with logic but the controller assignments I can’t really get to do what I want so wasn’t sure if CC mode would let me do what I’m trying to do. If anyone knows (or if you could make a video about the differences), I’d really appreciate it. Love this channel! Keep rockin that dome!
Great video. If one has a novation launch key, is there some added benefit to also purchasing the NI M32 apart from having 32 keys and some of the bundled software instruments? And if you were to pick one, which among these will you choose?
I just got the Komplete Kontrol 32 because of your video and I have to say that after a conversation with Logic support, Native Instruments is not as compatible or easy to set up as it sounds. I still can’t figure out how to get the controls all linked up.
Interesting. I’m thinking of selling my LaunchKey Mini and getting an M32. I have a LaunchKey 49 MK3 in the studio and I love it, but the LaunchKey Mini - albeit ideal for Ableton and Logic - isn’t as good with NI Komplete. I do like that the LaunchKey Mini transport, knobs and pads work out-of-the-box with Logic. I’m wondering if the NI M32 will also work as a DAW control surface with Logic? I gotta do some investigation… I think the M32 has a ‘DAW Mode’… but I need to know more.
@@JeffyG I don’t know I’ve only tried once and gave up. The keys don’t have that feature where they are sensitive to touch/pressure. I forget what they call that but it’s all around not worth it in my experience.
Nice video, thanks! The Oxygen pro also seems to handle things with Logic pretty well, once it's set up right. Everything else works, but I can't seem to get the Sync working, so my arpeggio and repeats are in time with Logic. Any advice? Maybe I have the wrong sync settings in Logic? (great idea for a video btw :)
One more thing - I generally avoid using the Scale, Chord and ARP features in KK or built into any midi controller. I prefer those same midi FXs built into Logic. That way it doesn’t matter midi controller I’m using, I see the midi results in Logic, and I’m prepared for the future when I might get a new or better controller keyboard.
My M32 not work well on Logic pro.The play, record and all buttons not work, only the keyboard work.I instal all the driver and app and nothing. Please help me if you know any fix.
Hi Chris - I'm considering the LaunchKey mini as a desktop addition to supplement my S61 MK2. Could you confirm there are no issues with the LaunchKey mini as a controller for the Komplete Kontrol software? In particular, I understand the LaunchKey doesn't have endless encoders. If this results in large parameter jumps editing synth parameters, would be a dealbreaker. From your demo controlling LPX parameters, appears this shouldn't be an issue. Ultimately, I'd pair an M32 with the S61 but there are contention issues that NI needs to work out first.
Overall, the LaunchKey Mini MK3 is a nice and compact controller which works well with Logic once a few script changes are made (as per Chris, plus another to fix "Pickup" mode). That said, I couldn't get past the low travel keybed of the LaunchKey and ended up with an Arturia MiniLab MK2 instead. While support for Logic out of the box is horrible, the keybed is fantastic, and with 16 knobs/pads one can fully map out to make a fantastic Logic controller. I use in conjunction with Logic Remote on iPad for my desktop solution.
Chris, i upgraded to Mac studio. Logic will not recognize komplete control on my s88 mkii keyboard. The keyboard is working in other apps like ez keys. Logic runs the KK software but the S88 is not seeing the KK functions, or my Kontakt library. Any suggestions. Ps. I'm running Logic in Rosetta.
Hello. Logic does not gave me the OSC Question and DAW control did not work with my A49 on an M1 Mini. I can not figure out how to get the A49 to work correctly with Logic. Please HELP!!!
Can you get Novation to get the pot pickup on the Launchkey to work with Logic? It doesn't right now. Huge Fader and Pot jumps every time you switch between modes and then touch anything.
Hey, i have the launchkey 49 and when the pads are in session mode, the record mute and solo do not match the color of the mode its in. ie. the pads are all orange rather than red and yellow for solar and record and red and blue for mute..... can anyone help????
Thanks so much for this video, it seems really hard to find good midis that are compatible with logic. The 2 I've narrowed it down to are Arturia keylab essential 49 and Novation Launchkey mk 3 49, does anyone have any experience of using both? The only holdback on the Launchkey is the keys are apparently not great.... Or secret option 3, is it worth investing a couple extra hundred on something like the Keylab mark 2? Any help would be greatly appreciated
@Manny Cracker lol I actually don’t have that Oxygen Pro. The jog wheel issue is on different forums and all over the reviews on Amazon and they dropped the price just to sell them.
1:37 not to slight people’s opinions/choices, but in my personal experience, Ableton is overly complicated. I’ve used many many many DAWs, and even Sony’s Acid Pro follows the typical DAW layout, which Ableton does not do. I think people “love” it because it typical comes bundled with gear.
Just curious is the Komplete control has any trouble connecting to a Mac running 🏃♂️ Big Sur? I’ve had some trouble with some native instrument devices connecting.
I’m still searching for a MIDI keyboard controller that works great with a 2011 MBP running High Sierra 10.13.6 I’ve upgraded to SSD and 8 gigs. I’ve tried a couple that just don’t seem to work well. Or even work at all. Does anyone have any suggestion of which one would work without issues, just plugging it in? I’d like to keep it to 32 keys, but maybe 25. But no bigger than 32. Anyone with knowledge of this that could help me out would be very much appreciated. Also need start/stop FF RW pause etc. I tried the Native Instrument Komplete Knotrol M32. Doesn’t work. Sucks because I really love it. About to send that one back unfortunately. It’d be REALLY helpful if all the reviewers would say what Macs they work with, and which Max OS they don’t. But after downloading the stuff it gets to a point where it says “ OS too old, must be at least 11.. “ but online spec says it works with MAC OS 10.?.? And up.

I bought an m32. Build quality is good but the keys are only fit for fixed velocity. Komplete control crashes logic sometimes. The mod wheel sucks. Make sure you try before you buy.
Awesome video. But let’s not forget: Love of gadget is different from love of music. At the end of the day, how many songs did you write?
Thank you for the Video. Just note that M32 as all Komplete Controllers are not yer supported on Macs running M1. So all the functionality just isn't there. Found out the hard way!
Dude! Not at all what I thought you looked like. Bald men unite! I’d totally rock the stash, but the wife said no so I just do the full beard. Love your content! Been using logic since version 9. You have helped me learn so much! Thank you!!!! I also use the NI s61 and I have a Yamaha clavinova for pianos. I have a bunch of analog synths as well. My prophet 6 is my baby.
Great video! But does it support garage band as well as Logic Pro x? I mean notation lk mk3
What about Nektar panorama T6 ? Thanks
Thank you so much! THis video was just what I needed and had been looking for.
Best Logic teacher. Thank you for all the great content
Hi did you end up getting the oxygen pro? I was pretty much sold until I saw reviews that said it was a nightmare to configure to logic pro x?
Dude!!!! Love your channel. Great info and insights and really well presented. Thank you so much for these. Wish you blessings Chris. 🙏🏾
NI says it’s a ‘known issue’ and they are ‘working on it’ but the online chatter about it goes back years so... be warned: don’t buy this for tandem use with another NI Komplete Kontrol.
i wonder if that would be the same case with S61 and Native mk3
Hey do you think you can make a new video of best MIDI controllers for logic ?
Great video, love this channel. A "must follow" if you have Logic Pro.Thanks!
Wow so much information in just few minutes this is cool , i like it
I think you should repost the part of the video for the fix on the Novation. I’m sure it will help a ton of folks. I had this problem couldn’t find anything anywhere and figured it out on my own it pissed me off for a whole afternoon it did work about a year ago.
As always great tips and content man keep up the hard work.
I think I just might! Thanks for the recommendation.
I discovered another script flaw with the Launchkey Mini MK3 in that “Pickup Mode” doesn’t work until you make the following changes:
- Rotaries > Device | Mix | Pans | Sends A | Sends B > Knob 1-8
- Set Feedback = "None" for each of the knob entries above (default is “Left to Right Bar”)
I also suggest taking a copy of the Logic Pro control surfaces preference file and have on hand. If you accidentally click on the LaunchKey in your control surfaces list, the default script will be re-loaded. Not sure if there is a way to disable this, but easy to just replace the preferences file if this happens. One done, this becomes a very solid setup.
I have $250 to spend. What’s the next controller you would recommend for a logic user in that budget range? 😅 thank you
Hi - thanks for the tutorial. Can you do one on LaunchPads as well?
Novation could go further with Logic DAW controls. FF or RR to next Marker. Zoom in/out horizontally and vertically. There are more ideas... why not fill those custom pad and pot slots with something useful right out of the box?
You should look at using a Novation Circuit for this. There'll be an awful lot of those on the secondhand market all of a sudden.
Hi, would you know if this still works as well in 2023. Talking about the Novation and especially the Smart Control mapping. Thanks!
imma go with the native instrumentals because i also use maschine with logic and I love how the native instruments controllers work and look i do have a maschine mk3 but i gotta figure out how too get it setup with logic pro in midi mode
Wonderful video. Thanks for the info!
Thank you for the info. Unfortunately my Launchkey wont show up in the list:-(
I'm in same position. Only LaunchPAD mini MK3 show up even tho the installer says LaunchKEY !!
Would like to hear about iPad based controllers... besides logic control. I am not much of a hardware guy.
What do you think about M Audio oxygen pro?
Same question!
Yeh, I have the same Question too 🤔
Same question..
Cypher describes equipment used on the Nebuchadnezzar
very helpful. thanks!
This video is awesome
Great video. If one has a novation launch key, is there some added benefit to also purchasing the NI M32 apart from having 32 keys and some of the bundled software instruments? And if you were to pick one, which among these will you choose?
Any thoughts on Arturia minilab ?
Awesome video, thank you!
Mmm there is a smart chord mode in Logic? I guess I haven’t dived deep enough into it’s advanced functions…
@@AlKalain Logic has Chord Trigger. It’s pretty good, but the FREE Ripchord plugin is super popular and easy

M-Audio Oxygen Mini or Novation Mini MK3?
I use logic and can't really decide between these two. Any advice?
The entire video is him recommending you get the Novation Launchkey Mini Mk3 as a controller for Logic.
a year ago I bought akai mpk mini 2 but I do not like its integration into the logic.
Have you had any experience using the Arturia Keystep 37 with Logic? If so, what were your thoughts on it?
Any impulse response for space designer for we expand our sound? that you recommend checking out, thanks
Awesome video!
My M32 not work well on Logic pro.The play, record and all buttons not work, only the keyboard work.I instal all the driver and app and nothing. Please help me if you know any fix.
How did u get the transport keys to light up in logic? Mine work but they don’t light up. I have the launchkey 37
can you do a review for m audio oxygen pro mini on logic?
What OS is needed to run the Komplete Kontrol software on Mac
What's the best budget friendly macbook size to get...I have one now but Logic takes up all my memory
Wish the komplete kontrol had pads
How about now the akai mpk mini plus?
Hey man. I plugged in ready to play but it didn’t recognise it and none of the transport controls work…. What do I do?
Why did I buy the Keystep 37? Would anyone of you using Keystep 37, keep it and why?
Thanks so much for this video, it seems really hard to find good midis that are compatible with logic.
The 2 I've narrowed it down to are Arturia keylab essential 49 and Novation Launchkey mk 3 49, does anyone have any experience of using both? The only holdback on the Launchkey is the keys are apparently not great....
Or secret option 3, is it worth investing a couple extra hundred on something like the Keylab mark 2?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Anyone have any experience with the M-Audio Oxygen Pro? I use logic and am wondering how well the Oxygen Pro works with Logic?
Has pitch wheel issue
@Manny Cracker lol I actually don’t have that Oxygen Pro. The jog wheel issue is on different forums and all over the reviews on Amazon and they dropped the price just to sell them.
1:37 not to slight people’s opinions/choices, but in my personal experience, Ableton is overly complicated. I’ve used many many many DAWs, and even Sony’s Acid Pro follows the typical DAW layout, which Ableton does not do. I think people “love” it because it typical comes bundled with gear.
This man been around the block a few times 😂
My arp is always out of sync with the launchkey mk3
Just curious is the Komplete control has any trouble connecting to a Mac running 🏃♂️ Big Sur? I’ve had some trouble with some native instrument devices connecting.
go to native instruments website then click support then under support news you'll find your answer
Excellent
I REALLY wish I could use the Native Instruments M32. What sucks is on the product spec sheet it says it works with my MAC OS. But after downloading the stuff it gets to a point where it says “ OS too old, must be at least 11.. “ but online spec says it works with MAC OS 10.?.? And up.
I have the komplete kontrol s25 and it does not work like that most of the knobs its not intergrated with logic do you know how i can get it to work like your komplete kontrol a32?
Launchkey lights are blindingly bright even on the lowest setting
Hi man i have 400 dolars and i want to buy a midi the fits logic and to give me the abilty to use it as conttroler interface so what and to be 61 simi wighted so what do you recommend
Curious what you think of the Arturia Keylab M2?
Thanks for the question! I had the MiniLab mk2 from Arturia for a while. The keybet felt nice and sturdy. Obviously great integration with Arturia's own instruments. But I found that Smart Controls in Logic did not like the rotary knobs. Maybe I had a bum unit. But every time I turned the knobs the Smart Controls would skip around erratically.
@@WhyLogicProRules having the same experience with my Arturia minlab mk2 and it's frustrating, maybe some settings that I'm not aware of but I don't really use it and use ipad remote. I miss having a midi keyboard, planning to pickup novation mini mk3 and selling the arturia
