Snail farming in Cavan

Peter Monaghan of Inis Escargot breeds, rearr and finishes Helix Aspersia Muller Snails at his free range farm near Virginia, Co. Cavan. This year he expects to harvest between 800,000 to 1.2 million of the gastropods. Peter is one of around just 30 Irish snail farmers but believes there is a huge potential for the sector going forward and is looking for the Department of Agriculture to examine how best to support Heliciculture into the future.
