  • In this home tour, designer Amanda Shields takes us inside her clients’ renovated Victorian house in the Toronto beaches. Originally renovated in the 1990s, the home was due for a refresh for a new family. “I wanted a design that would touch on old ideas but was still modern and stand the test of time,” says Amanda. Checkerboard floors, archways and stained glass windows lend itself to Old World design, while contemporary features like a built-in wet bar and open-concept living space feels fresh and of the moment.

    I don't like the glass cabinets/open shelving. It makes the room look cluttered. I do love the tiles and lighting in the dining room. Also, why didn't you place the mirror and lights over the sink in the powder room? Placing it above the toilet is weird.

      Yeah, you’re right. My friend mom has that and sometimes you just focus on what are you looking at in the see through the glass especially with my friends mom her can goods are visibly showing it’s like do I have to look at 6 cans of chicken noodle soup 🤣 and you’re right about the bathroom oh my Lord, what they supposed to stand on the toilet and look in the mirror🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

      Neat and tidy. Safe choices for everything. The most interesting rooms were the mudroom and the powder bathroom. The designer said she was aiming for timeless. It is definitely very 2024 on trend.

    This is pretty but definitely not timeless. On the contrary, this is very trendy. Mint boot, room, cream and gold, arches. I think these will be dated in 2 years top.

      Its so funny cause every designer will call their work timeless and then in 5 years time they come back and tell us it’s dated and how to update it with the new “timeless” current trend.

      Why would anyone want to support dairy farmers? Bad for the environment, our health and especially the cows who are continually impregnated only to have their babies taken away right after birth and raised in veal crates so humans can drink their milk. So disgusting when you really break it down and think about it. Cows milk is for calves, not humans.

      The front door is close, plus the tile floor entry, but a bit toward Queen Anne, too. The rest is "eclectic".. . Combo farmhouse, Scandinavian hint in dining, transitional. Art is primarily modern, some very stark and black, like pics above bed; not calming.

    Why turn a beautiful Victorian home into a generic open concept? I don’t understand if they want this modern style than should go buy something else more suitable. It’s a shame these Victorian houses are all being turned into white/grey/beige boxes.

    • @victoriakirchner4371
      @victoriakirchner4371 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Open concept is getting less popular for some. In a new build "old house", I did quite a large doorway/opening between an eat in kitchen and family room. Kept the coziness of a separate kitchen but could still see most of FR when you wanted. Made like a nicer casing sized for a huge old pocket door in the space and an open transom above it. Nice for holiday decorating, too. Dining room was in separate room off to side of kitchen, through a Butler's pantry/beverage bar done in black and soft teal with antique mirror and backslash and a few black and white pics of interesting people/happenings from a long past era.

    I do feel like most people that the houses look the same n a bit boring. But let's not forget désigners works on what client want. If most people want neutral they can't just impose another style on them. They get paid to give that neutral. If most houses end up looking the same it is because it reflets the current trends. It is not the Channel fault. It is more likely the clients fault

      It's like a combo Butler's pantry/DR. Counter space or sideboards nice for buffets, but this is a lot of Butler's pantry/beverage bar in a DR. I assume home SF was quite limited the way rooms were all combined. You do what you can do. They preferred higher finishes vs more SF; not the best choice, they'll probably find over time. SF is harder to add and usually increases in price, plus having to rebuild outside finishes to do so. You can always upgrade some finishes inside, room by room.

  • @stulianadivanova8444

    Too much open shelving. All this creates visual noise. At least that started using plaster finishes. At least tiles are all way up to the ceiling. Some improvement but still looks clutered.

  • @stulianadivanova8444

    Why do they need a bench at the entrance. Losing valuable sq footage for some open benches. Just build the closet all way. People need storage nor benches.
