Thanks everyone for the lovely comments! As some of you mentioned, I think it would've been better to have called this a 'track' instead of a song. The word 'song' implies vocals, but it turned out as an instrumental. I think it's for the best though, because me singing would've ruined it ;). Cheers!
If it's a track is the best one made in 1 h (from my knowledge) I feel like a solo with that Les Paul on the wall would have been perfect Maybe that's just me
Shota M that’s so me! and after i record a song or a melody or whatever that i like and then listen to it over n over again cuz it sounds so good it all of a sudden starts sounding like shit :D
Skylent Games that was the biggest thing i also took away from watching a real musician use todays tech to create a very cool sound! That smile of accomplishment is a high onto its own, my favorite part of learning something new, practicing it and mastering something you never thought was possible is a great feeling for sure!
By far, my favourite 1-hour-challenge song (followed by Adam Neely's). It's very solid and, unlike some others, we can follow the composing process and understand how it was built from scratch. Awesome content, Paul.
I don't publish videos on TH-cam, but I thought live videos remained on the channel. Maybe he deleted it (?). Still, here's the song: adamneelymusic.bandcamp.com/track/song-made-and-mixed-live-in-one-hour
I produce professionally for singer/songwriters, and this happens to me one in every five times I start on something. I'll have had something stuck in my head that week, and as I sit there listening to a half done project, all I can think is, "....fuck. That's literally just inverted Sweet Child O' Mine" or something along those lines lol.
I was coming up with a song on piano, and I was thinking, "Wow, this is really good!" Later I realized it was exactly the same as You Never Give Me Your Money by The Beatles...
A compressor doesn't necessarily add treble. A compressor reduces dynamics by attenuating the volume whenever it becomes louder than some threshold, effectively reducing the "peaks" in volume. The overall volume is then typically increased, which gives the sound more sustain.
In simple terms it evens out the volume of the track to make the quieter parts more audible in a mix. Too much compression kills the human element. Too little and the track might not have enough energy
fell asleep watching the making (actually, I was very tired coming from work). But heard the completed song the next morning. And it's really very good Paul... inspiring work.
what amazes me most is your songwriting. Sure it can be "easy" to create a song when you can work efficiently with gear and recording software, but creating a song within an hour that actually sounds like a good song is a whole new level of awesomeness. Lekker gewerkt pik
well I have no idea how I even found this video, fell down some weird rabbit hole and yet here I am, watched the entire thing and was amazed, that was just incredible to witness, raw pure talent, congratulations on that sounds fantastic
Usually great guitarists aren't good teachers and great teachers often aren't so skilled guitarists. You Paul are the perfect teacher and one of the best players I've seen... Thank yiu
Very interesting...educational, enlightening, entertaining. I know you said this is perhaps for a background soundtrack but now I want to hear you play a guitar solo over this. I am certain it would be awesome! Cheers!
Out of all the 1-hour challenges out there, this one is by far the most beautiful. I've had an unimaginably tough week, made worse by losing my brother... this brought a smile to my face, and honestly I was crying at the same time.
Anyway, Eric Johnson swears he wrote Cliffs of Dover in about 5 minutes ( "I don't even know if I can take credit for writing 'Cliffs of Dover' ... it was just there for me one day ... literally wrote in five minutes ... kind of a gift from a higher place that all of us are eligible for. We just have to listen for it and be available to receive it."), so maybe if I'd give it 5 months I would create something listenable. :D
Absolutely amazing. Love how it all came together then got genuinely nervous when you PICKED UP a guitar with 32 seconds left on the clock. The balls on this man!
I'm a musician (guitarist and songwriter) for about 25 years, your videos has inspired me so much. Many of my ideas has lyrics, but you inspire me to do more instrumentals, it makes me want to study and learn more. Thank you very much for that. Cheers!
Just watched this video and I wished I watched it sooner! I'm actually taking a songwriting class right now so watching you make split-second decisions and planning out your song in just one hour is very impressive.
Me and my friend did something really similar - a TOW hour song challenge! (I played guitar and he keyboards) but you did it so much better in so much less time. I sort of adore you after watching this.
This song is pure sweetness. You know, when I see someone who can truly express himself with music AND create something beautiful at the same time, I use to say he "has understood the music". You totally do, man, and watching such an artist having fun and enjoyng his playing while making something beautiful is truly inspiring for us all. Also 12:33 fuck your keyboard
I really enjoy your attitude the way you attack the descriptions and your actions on how to play music it's just all Beyond me a little bit but it inspires people I'm sure other than me just sending it out there keep up the greatness and very good at what you do
I kind of learned alot by watching this.. I always wanted to record myself, all the instruments (guitar, bass, drums etc), but I only have a guitar. I was aware I can do bass lines on a guitar, now I only need to find a program to make my notebook keyboard into a drum kit :D
easily the best 1 hour song challenge I've heard. That was super cool, I love the ambient feel and this could easily be expanded into a killer sound track tune (or, you know... used as is because most soundtracks use less than 2 minutes of music at a time)
You are by far one of my fave YT guitarists without a doubt. Ya know, a LOT of people have done these "60 minute song challenges", but no one has made it look quite as easy as you have. I NEED TO KNOW!!! DID YOU FINISH THE SONG

Came back to the comments section to let you know that your track’s main melody has been sticking in my mind for the last two hours. Love it!
Borrow it for your own song?
By far, my favourite 1-hour-challenge song (followed by Adam Neely's). It's very solid and, unlike some others, we can follow the composing process and understand how it was built from scratch. Awesome content, Paul.
I don't recal Adam doing the 1-hour challenge.. What are you talking about?
Adam did one?
It was a live video, I watched a tiny bit where he murdered a vocal chop. Sadly, I couldn't make it to the end.
I don't publish videos on TH-cam, but I thought live videos remained on the channel. Maybe he deleted it (?). Still, here's the song: adamneelymusic.bandcamp.com/track/song-made-and-mixed-live-in-one-hour
I really liked Mary Spenders 1 hour song as well. But this is definitely my favourite.
6:33 The inevitable moment while writing new music when you realize your song sounds just like another song. Happens every time.
i know right! then i feel like i’m subconsciously copying someone. the worst is when i don’t remember what song it is
That happened to me 2 times!!

THE. FUCKING. WORST.

I love the fact that your fingers do a vibrato on the sample pad.
JamesShore1990
Lol
I also do that but when I play my keyboard with a guitar sound 😂
It is involuntary 😂😂🎸
The pads he's playing on are called "launch pads" theyre pressure sensitive so when he does the vibrato it actually does it to the note FR.
was just about to comment that
Story of my life
2:29 that sounds so beautiful 😍
The melody is kind of like L's theme from death note
4:30
Trying to add vibrato to the drums 😂
But i'm guilty of this too
was going to make same comment, thought it'd be too geeky....evidently I've found my tribe in this comment section. Vibrato on a snare....who knew?!
sometimes it be like that
I use vibrato on my kick
Piano too 😂😂
I play violon and it's been 6 years but I still don't know how to make a good vibrato X)

"For your short attention spans"
i also skipped to the exact moment like u lol
I love your style so much

Paul Davids: too much compression on the guitar
Me at home: What the hell is compression
Also me at home: can't hear a difference
An effect that compress and give more treble in the sound of the guitar
