But Alex, WHY? Well let me explain…
In March of 2011 I launched The Blue Crown. I was a 23 years old aspiring entrepreneur who wanted to make an impact in the magic industry. This new company aimed to teach magic, sleight of hand, and performance through video tutorials. Through our many downloadable videos and DVDs…(yes, DVDs, remember those?) we released some amazing magic and taught hundreds of thousands of aspiring magicians all around the world.
In 2012, the popularity of custom playing cards was growing at an exponential rate and I decided to launch a brand called House of Playing Cards. This company went on to be incredibly successful - selling more than 1 million decks of cards through 300+ different custom decks and generating over $10 million.
So you might be thinking - great, so what’s the problem? Well over the past 10+ years my whole life revolved around designing, printing, and selling playing cards. In the beginning this was fun and exciting. I was able to be creative with the decks we produced and building the stories around each release - and I think we did it better than just about anyone in the industry.
As the years went on, my goals in business and, well, life evolved. My interest in the playing card industry began to dwindle. I found myself working on projects I had no passion for. Printing a deck…selling the deck…repeat. By this point, the playing card industry had hits its peak and I was ready for the next level...

I think this is my first time commenting here, but I would have never become a performing magician without your TH-cam content, and I love the NOC brand and they are my go-to deck for “special” performances. I owe you a huge debt of gratitude- I’m still very much a student of card magic, but I never would have made it out of those first couple years of study without the work you’ve put into the world. As someone who handles cards left-handed, I just wish the indices were in all four corners of the faces, because you can't spread or fan the deck if it's just going to look like 51 blank cards (minus the one thar's on the bottom, obviously). The American Playing Card Co. produced a "lefty" deck, but at $5 a go? That's not fair. You can buy British Waddingtons that always have the indices in all four corners, and the bridge-sized ones are cheap, but atill, why are 12% of the population being punished? I think your last dance should be to produce both bridge and poker decks with the indices in all four corners. There would be a market. They'd sell out fast, brother. Trust me!

Completely disagree that the playing card market wasnt a thing in 2010/2011. Even outside the old Ellusionist decks, you had Theory11 and Dan and Dave selling a TON of personalized decks that were super popular. Might not have been as over saturated as it is now, but magic was probably more popular than it had ever been and it was no secret that cards were selling like crazy every time they dropped.
