Their "accents" are extremely strong but, even without subtitles, again, I could understand most of their singing...

Tang Dynasty dance is old, but many derivative. You just imaged that the culture revolution killed Han dance, in the contrary, culture revolution promote a lots of local modern dances and plays. Modern Beijing Opera are perfect examples. An ethnic culture cannot be easily eliminated in couple years, except you kill the whole ethnic group.

I know many Hmong people in the US have negative opinions about China or Chinese people. But little do they know how well their root culture is preserved in China. Miao people have amazing culture heritages including music, dancing, clothing, food, architecture, and so on. Thanks to the exposure in both Chinese TV networks and social media, many cities/towns with dominant Miao populations became popular tourist destinations. In contrast, the entire Asian community is underrepresented or stereotyped in the US society. Second generation kids are trained by the schools to be neoliberal leftists, some of them can't even speak mother tongues not to mention embracing their cultural roots.
