    Awesome job with the Zero & the weathering looks very realistic👍💯👍💯👍💯. I think that zero known by the decal & the number is from AKAGI Fighter Group (2nd wave) flown by Lt. Saburo Shindo during the attack of Pearl Harbor. "Note this just history"

  • @bradwhite9854

    I think you nailed the weathering. For those who think you went over board on the weathering must not have ever looked into actual historic photos of WWII aircraft and how absolutely destroyed they looked for those that were lucky enough to make it deep in the war. There are many many,many photos of zeros with hardly any paint on them as SALT WATER FROM THE OCEAN corroeds and eats the paint and aluminum from aircraft.
    So hell of a job..

      Not this early in the war. the ground crew that allowed their plain to get that dirty and such would have been thrown overboard. These planes were kept VERY clean and some (at least) were even waxed in an attempt to improve performance. HOWEVER, you are quite right about the weathering later inn the war - those planes were beat to hell.
      That said, artistically (I make full allowance for artistic expression) the finished model here is a true work of art! I can only look forward to when I am able to do such magnificent work.

    These things are a work of art! Do you sell these, because I'd pay for one and I'll bet I'm not the only one. So realistic looking and by far the best modeling skills on TH-cam, let alone in real life. I'll pay for an A6 intruder or a F4U Corsair.

    Amazing job David, hats off. I have 2 questions,
    Do you clean the oil wash with dry kitchen paper or you make it wet with something?
    On weathering with oil stage, after you put the oils on to the model, how do you feather it? with dry brush or with thinner or turpentine etc.
    Thank you...

    Hi David. I really enjoyed watching this build along with all your other videos. I have a question that might seem obvious, but what color did you use for the fuselage? Is it white or a light grey? Seems to be quite a debate on many forums in regard to this question. I think the color you chose looks most accurate. Please let me know when you can. Thanks and keep up the fantastic work...cheers!

  •  8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Whilst you are obviously a fantastic modeler David, do you not think the weathering was a bit too heavy ?

    • @jonishmael4215
      @jonishmael4215 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love his modelling talent. But, the smaller the scale, the less you would see the effects of weathering I believe. It DOES make the detail really pop though! I'd cut back myself as well and use a less amount of black, or use the base color with just a hint of grey/black for the shadow effect on certain areas.
      Now if it were planes that had flown through huge burning oil clouds as in the case at Pearl Harbor, the outer portions of the plane could get pretty dingy.

    • @tommylakasi3022
      @tommylakasi3022 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Arc Light its probably cuase hes used to building bigger models like a 1/48 f-15 or something, on that the weathering would be less noticable compared to the aircraft size, and the stains would be bigger

    • @thomaskolb8785
      @thomaskolb8785 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The WW 2 Japanese aircraft often looked absolutely grimy, partially because the fuel quality available to the fleet was very poor. With the throttle wide open, the Mitsubishi engines often misfired, thereby emitting flames and an oily smoke trail. US pilots were in fact instructed not to believe that they had hit the Japanese planes in a dogfight just because the planes started throwing sparks and trailing smoke.
      The consequent removal of this oily residue from the wings and the fuselage by the Japanese maintenance team often damaged the thin and rather poor quality paintwork to the level where in some cases it almost completely washed off, revealing the bare metal underneath. So Davids excellent rendering (while using some artistic license) is in fact not completely unrealistic.

      Towards the end of the war the paint they used was inferior and chipped and faded very easily there was a blockade on Japan. Towards the end the best they could do was scavenge parts sometimes color schemes were mismatched ect. Their first priority was a serviceable aircraft and the color schemes became less important.
