    Do you have a video of what it sounded like before you changed the timing chain and guides

    • @DavidNaritaYT
      @DavidNaritaYT  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately, I do not. This was a customers vehicle, so I didn't spend too much time with it before the maintenance.

    Great video, you made that look really easy. Couple of questions, what exactly were your symptoms? You mentioned vibrating but was there anything else? I've been on the hunt for some random roughness in mine. So far I've replaced cv axles, front struts and rear shocks, and put in new plugs. Idling is a bit smoother after the new plugs but I'm still chasing random vibrating while driving at certain rpms. I've checked my motor mounts and they don't look very worn so I don't believe they're the culprit. Wheel bearings are on my radar but the problem goes away at freeway speeds if I put in in neutral and let off the gas.

      Everything looks easy on TH-cam if it's documented properly lol thank you! The symptoms were the crank shaft sensor and cam shaft sensor were throwing off error codes at the same time and after a proper diagnostic I figured out the timing chain was loose and that would cause the sensors to go off at the same time. It's not often both sensors go off at the same time unless the timing has slipped or stretched.

      @@DavidNaritaYTthanks for the reply, I'd love to quiet my car down but I don't want to throw random money at it over and over. Gets expensive for minimum results.

      The only thing is if you wait too long it will do more damage than it's worth. So if you're above 100,000 miles you're at risk. Food for thought 🤔

      @@DavidNaritaYT OK good point, another quick question If you don't mind. You were showing the marks at TDC and then once the chain was on you pointed out the gold links and were they lined up. That seemed straight forward until I realized it didn't look like the TDC marks were in the same spot.

    • @DavidNaritaYT
      @DavidNaritaYT  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yeah the cams moved slightly but when I put the new chain on I was able to get them to stay in one place till I could tighten the chain tensioner. They make a tool that goes between the gears but you don't need it if you know how to align everything by hand.

    For those irritated that no one shows the cover actually being pulled out, it is possible in the car. Lower the engine just slightly down, roughly 1 inch, this allows the bottom of the timing cover to be tilted away from the engine, and allows clearance past the oil slinger on the oil pump. Hopefully this saves someone the 2 hours i just wasted trying to get it out once it was free.

    is there a certain way something has to line up to get the cover back on? I cant get it back over the crankshaft.

    • @DavidNaritaYT
      @DavidNaritaYT  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's been a while since I did this repair, but I'm pretty sure you need to start from the crankshaft at an angle and close it up at the top.

    could a slight idle up down revving be a timing chain tensioner going bad? no check engine light.

    • @DavidNaritaYT
      @DavidNaritaYT  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It sure could be a possibility but if you replace the tensioner then you might as well replace the chain and guides too

      The trick is to replace it before it goes bad. It will inevitably go bad eventually between 100-150k you're lucky if you make it to 200k.
