This is a lessons learned video that is meant to educate all you builders. It goes into detail as to why certain cars handled my "Frankenstein" track better. There are modifications you can make to your entries that will ensure competitive success in the future. - บันเทิง

It’s interesting that lighter cars work better on your track as I find the same thing at the canyon. I always tell builders not to just heavy as possible. I also set my max weight at 40-50g depending on the tournament

@@crypttonite For drag tracks, yes, but for open tracks, heaviest doesn't always win. It's far more important to have the right weight balance (to reduce spinning or bad entry angle into corners) and a car that runs straight as possible. At least on all the tracks I've hand built. The potential energy of a heavy car pays off in drag or laned races though
This is where your channel sets you apart from the other racing channels, with tutorials the viewer has a better understanding on why you do the things that you do. I liked how you did this when you started season one and before season 3 began you took us step-by-step on how the track was laid out which I think was AWESOME!!!!!! These lessons learned will only enhance your channel and it will not only make the current participants better but will also attract a newer fan base as well. Kudos to you and all the work you put into the channel and I'm looking forward to the next season.

I totally 2nd Munch's words and you had me all the way when you showed us "How to be a Cool Dad" (even though I don't have any brats) & showed us the not only how to "drift" diecasts, but also taught us the science behind what makes it work?

I have to piggyback on @TheMunchBoogie's comments. This truly sets the channel apart from other racing channels.
1. You provide behind the scenes on the building of the set
2. You provide a logical scoring system that works well for your track.
3. You provide a guide to both the seasoned die-cast racer as well as for the young enthusiast. It's like having the track masters give tips on how drivers can do better on the track they designed. It's like having a championship driver give their advice freely to others.
You provide all of these things with kindness and enthusiasm missing from other channels. Sure, they may be FUN, are they PERSONABLE? Are they KIND?
I am truly praying for continued success and growth with your track and your channel and that you prosper and be in health in every facet of your life. Blessings, always.

Great video! I really like the breakdown of the various cars and how they were built. Kudos to the builder who let you take apart his car and show how what he did. Terrific idea with the measuring tape.

Shavano Mountain is a course unlike ANY other in the hobby with its own unique challenges that builders had a time and a half building for especially in this inaugural event. Thanks for taking even more time to provide these videos and for showing the differences in axle treatments, loose vs stiff, and how the differences played out!!
GTR continues to impress. The track is an inspiration and these kinds of videos really are a great connection and super interesting. Maybe next season we'll send in a contestant!

That's what I gathered as I was inspecting the cars from experienced racers.
I love the fact that you can explain clearly to the viewer why some cars perform better than others, i can see this as being helpful to newbies and even veterans because i actually learned alot here despite racing my cars for 2 years now. Love this channel, keep it up buddy!

Some of the best (and/or forgiving) driving cars that I've still got were manufactured with a metal-sprung-ribbon for suspension - older Dinky and Matchbox knew their stuff.

I lot of folks love Lily the Dog. So the tape measure was cut in half/split down the middle. Frankenstein was controlled by fire BTW. haha.

Not having any prior modding experience (and having little time as a last-minute entrant), all I did for Alex Piz's orange #7 Escort was stuff in all the putty I could find spaces for (except the silly exception to leave room for the "driver" to sit 😁). Other than that, it's unmodified. So I got lucky with that excellent drift in round one. Maybe next time I'll try something with the suspension. I also have a hypothesis about wheels (hint: literally wheels, not tires) that I might try.
Never expected to win anything, which we didn't, but for me the point of entering was to get my young grandson's name in a video. BAKE Racing accomplished that and he loved it.

very interesting, different from what im used to. i do drag racing and weight matters a lot. the heavier a car the better it does. cool to learn about your crazy track
Thanks for commenting. I can imagine how the design for a drag racing track requires a build similar to pinewood Derby racing, but even I don't fully understand what I've created here. LOL!.

Very interesting! I think there's a PhD subject here: "The Mechanical Engineering Aspects of Diecast Race Car Design" - somebody should apply for a research grant!
If you need a fill-in event at any time, may I suggest an all Ford Escort exhibition race including Lily the Dog and Alex Piz. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see Lily race again, and the Escorts were entertaining.

This is a super helpful video especially for people like me who only recently discovered the diecast racing scene. Very eye-opening to know that higher weighted cars don't always perform better, especially in rally-type races.
Excellent video! I've been thinking of the best way to set up my weight and suspension for Are You Truckin' 2 and this helps. I'm going to do some experimentation with springs for four-wheel independent suspension, but the tape measure method is a lot easier. Thank you for the video and I absolutely love the track!

I thank you for going the extra steps and letting the beginner as well as the "OG's" know what works and doesn't. I have been studying your tracks from the very beginning & knew suspension or loose ( NON GLUED AXLES ) was the way to go on your track. I am still out on the egg beater! LOL.. But with that being said you stand out and this is why, YOU CARE !!! and it show's.. Thank you and cant wait to race on your track.

Agreed! My escort had no suspension except for loose axles..... but the truck entry already has "hair clip" spring suspension...and so far works nicely!

Great information on the vehicle's weight distribution & axle flexibility, I like how the person used a portion of tape measure as a suspension, I think I'd try that with a vehicle I'm wanting to customize, I enjoy your channel, thank you.

Great vid. As much as I agree regarding weight distribution, I felt like watching cars veering in one direction over and over illustrated the importance of axle alignment. I also saw a lot of vehicles sitting too low and scraping. So ride weight, weight, and alignment....just like the real thing really.

I had to watch again. At around 15:15 after the wheels are out, it looks like the grooves were cut/lowered??? With the spring board in place, it would actually push the tires down 2 mm to give clearance for the tires. That is what I did. It actually raised the truck a bit, 1.5 mm.
...as did I, Thanks for your video, it helped too!! I cut it down just 1 mm, works great....
On the winning car- the front end being more "loose" would seem to indicate, from what you said about the ever-dirty Camaro with the big tires, that was what kept the front end pointed forward when the going got tough.
Boxers suspension is actually pretty tight. When I removed the body you saw me stretching the axles up pretty high, but after the body is screwed down it doesn't move very much. Boxer's EVO suspension and Georgio's Ford Escort suspension don't feel much different from each other. I'll highlight that in the next Lesson's Learned video.

Do unmodified -stock diecast cars make it down this track at all? Or do they need to be modified to make it through all the rally obstacles?
Yes, unmodified vehicles will make it down. HWs naturally have looser suspensions. The main issue is they typically weigh in about 30g or 35g, so I'll see.them get stuck on the Scrambler or stalled out on the runway after spinning, or stuck after the drift because they had a rough go and lost momentum. Adding weight really helps with consistency.

I tryed it an other way. I took a hairclip from my daughter. Cut of the front and the reare and use the two parts exactly like your measuring tape. It’s a bit cheaper 😉That works great because it is not to soft.
If you have time you can find a lot of videos how to do it. One of the best is meccanicustoms. He made a lot of different suspensions. The older videos have the best tutorials on this theme!

Tripped over your channel, probably because TH-cam saw me watching 3Dbotmaker. Really like your track concept. Initially wasn't a fan of the scrambler, but came to appreciate it. I only have one critique. I don't think it's fair to give a car such a point advantage for jumping a numbered die. A couple of times, it seemed to push a lower performing car ahead of a superior driver, who may have had one bad race. I think it would be more fair to do what you did with the drift bonus. If a racer gets a point advantage by jumping one of the dice, it can give them the opportunity at sudden death against the number 2, but can't result in a win. Just my opinion. Great job with the track. Wish I had the talent to execute something even half as ambitious.
Thanks for the dice scoring input. Yes, I plan to change the dice scoring in Season 4 to award a well performed drift with higher scoring opportunities closer to the front of the train during the train jump. I may also add direct scoring opportunities on the drift directly. DaddyG shared ideas just like you have... so thank you!

Hi! I'm sorry, the races are full. FYI - I posted the pickup tournament last Saturday on redlinederby.com, and that is where I'll post future tournaments.
Theres something I'd want to try but I don't have the necessary skills to attempt it.
If you get a very small vial that was partially full of liquid, I'm imagining something like the measure from a spirit level for example, and put it in the front or rear of a car. Would it have any affect on how the car moves around the track, specifically on corners.
It will probably have no affect whatsoever but its just something I've been thinking about.
as a former tank truck driver, it may make it very unstable...liquid moving in a moving vehicle can be a bit hairy :😬
