It's hilarious how often true irony occurs in this world: Rothstein was shot and died because he refused to pay a gambling debt saying that the game has been "fixed"!! I'll bet he even said it with a straight face and indigenous in his voice.
It's so werid to think that because of this fix. Rothstein gained more power from this event. Which helped a low -level henchman of Rothstein called Lucky. Who would create the 20th-century american mafia. In a werid way, this event helped shaped the underworld for decades to come, a kinda underworld equivalent of Sputnik or the creation of the nuke.
"Shoeless" Joe ACCEPTED Rothstein's $$$...and then, PLAYED HIS ASS OFF IN THE SERIES! So, it would seem the gangster, Abe Rothstein, simply allowed himself to be, "hustled" by a, "good ol' boy" from South Carolina!😅
Hey buddy I think you are forgetting about the team that used trash cans and did swinging and banging with baseball bats and got away with the World Series in 2017 lol 😂 it’s the Houston asterisks
MLB was all too happy to sweep it all under the rug, but there was only one problem.. And it’s the real lesson of the story.. Those players continued to throw games throughout the 1920 season, because the gamblers had them over a barrel.. In their pocket, so to speak..
@@Iamhungey It was an open secret at that point, even reported in local Chicago publications.. I’ve always believed this is what spurred Landis to be so exacting.. And yes, the story is often only half told, which causes issues or reactions that Landis was too harsh on players found not guilty by courts.. But this illuminates the real problem, you don’t wanna be in the pocket of gamblers..
@@jacobjones5269 Exactly and it shows that the players weren't going to stop. When people discussed the Black Sox scandal, this part was often left out.
@@Iamhungey Buck Weaver is an excellent example.. He was throwing games in 1920, but he’s romanticized as someone who did not participate in 1919.. But, he was over the proverbial barrel the following year and he was “forced” to participate.. Most don’t understand Rose either.. He wouldn’t bet his team to lose, but it did not matter.. @@jacobjones5269 Indeed. What gets me about Rose and his fans is that the guy had denied betting on baseball for over a decade but when he had a book coming out in the early 2000s, he changed his tune. His claim that he only bet on his team to win came off as a last second excuse and yet his fans are all too willing to eat it up. How can anyone trust him after that?
Jackson hit well but he was definitely NOT playing to win. His offensive production was never in the clutch his hits came with no one on base and late in games after the Sox were already behind
It was kind of both the best and worst era for baseball. On one hand, you have a lot of dingers being hit left and right, the other, it leads to a lot of scrutiny by everyone and even the government regarding PEDs in sports The Black Sox scandal was the pure bad time for the MLB. Ehh this video feel incomplete. This was a situation blown up by an evil commissioner. He didn’t care if some players were innocent he wanted the big names banned so he could build his own fame.
Is This the Darkest Scandal in Baseball History?!
The steroid scandal and rampant coke use at one time is up there scandal wise

Thanks so much! It really means a lot. It's comments like these that really keep me going 👍
Gotta see a video on the Houston Astros sign stealing scandal soon. That would be an amazing video to watch.
Great Recommendation! I'll Definitely keep this in mind.
The Astros were NOT the only team to “sign stealing” smh 🤦 do research. Boston Red Sox did it the following year
@@MTL_prodzunlike other teams, the Astros had many ways to cheat

7 of 13 sounds fun, now that you've accidentally written it.
Biggest scandal in sports

Your videos are great but you have to improve the sound quality. Your voice is echoing in speakers.
All my people from Chicago who like the Sox 👏 vs cubs 🐻

1920 is something that needs to be discussed but was hardly brought up. I feel this may have played a part on Landis' decisions to ban those players.

Shoeless Joe couldnt read to my knowledge and would have got MVP with the stats he had if they won, so i doubt he had any part
Everything I have read about this is he was thrown under the bus and the commissioner wanted a big name to ban.
Joe Jackson took the money, he even asked about his money when it was delivered when it was supposed to be. He was involved in it
Jackson hit well but he was definitely NOT playing to win. His offensive production was never in the clutch his hits came with no one on base and late in games after the Sox were already behind
You didn’t cover that the pitcher in game 8 was threatened and that’s why they lost game after trying to win cause the pitcher threw the game
Best two words in sports, game….. eight.
That was false, the author of the novel even admits he made that up for entertainment.
Lefty Williams was never threatened.

It's not the players fault this happened. If you paid them fairly they would never even think about doing this.
The guy who was the leader was the best payed player in the MLB I believe.

Bro what is this best of 7 . 7/13
Do you even watch baseball .
It’s best of 7 4/7 . Best of 7 dosnt mean you need to win 7 games
Is this narrated by Michael Jackson?
No, that's William Christopher.

The year before, 1918, was fixed too. I am sure a few others were fixed.
