The nostalgia brings tears to my eyes. My mom even taped this show so we could watch it after work/school. The ending credits always made me sad because an hour just wasn't enough time to visit Springfield each day and I hated the weekends, lol I loved this theme so much I taught myself to play it by ear on my keyboard as a teen. My mom passed in 2005, before the show got really bad thankfully, but I'll always have the feelings and memories
I just loved this theme, both the open and the close. I really miss the days of closing credit rolls. I don't think TV, and especially the soaps, will ever be as good as they were in the past. What a great cast GL had back in 1993!
This particular theme brings back memories of my Grandmother. I used to watch this soap with her when I came home from high school every afternoon. And melodically, it is very soothing. :)
...and i was always sooo glad they were! usually on fridays or thursdays), and it was part of the experience! I looked forward to them being this long, especially on the days when they used the cast still-photos under the credits. This song/theme is so beautiful.
luv the theme song --- cant get it out of my head i play it almost daily and it keeps playing in my head ---- how i miss the soaps especialy GL ATWT and AW --- those were the days !!!!
It was called by one writer "the most exciting hour of television during both day and night" for a reason. Miss those days. I miss Michael Zaslow. A fine actor and wonderful man.
This program--this flagship of American broadcast entertainment--would have been 80 years old today. EIGHTY YEARS. How sorely needed this program is in these ugly times
Same I have fond memories of hearing this theme at my grandmother’s house after school, if it wasn’t this theme song it was the old General Hospital theme if my grandmother switched over to ABC to not miss a second of Oprah at 4 pm.
I love this Guiding Light closing theme 1990-2002, it came out January 1991.This is the best GL closing theme ever, the longer version of this Old School Joint.I saw this show back in kindergarden when I was 5 & 6 years old. This is a good song to use in a wedding march for the bridesmaids & groomsmen.
Wow. This is amazing. I love the music. It's too bad you don't see stuff like this nowadays. I'm adding this to my favorites, even though I've never seen one episode of the show.
This theme always made me sad on Friday’s. I had to wait the whole weekend for Monday. This cast crawl is when GL was on fire and Kim Zimmer wasn’t even on the show. LOL!!! Such great acting & amazing writing. I really miss the show especially this time frame.
I remember when my Grandma used to watch all her grandkids at this time, she'd make the little ones (me, my little sister, and my younger cousins) sit down and watch her stories with her, and by the time this theme started playin', we were all conked out, and I was the last to conk out on my Nanna's stomach... yeah, I had a Big Mama. I remember and cherish them days like it was just yesterday.
Despite killing off Maureen Bauer, Jill Farren Phelps's tenure on Guiding Light was mostly a good one IMO. And she's even gone on record several times saying she regretted killing her off.
I was 4 years old when both my great grandmothers used to watch this show. Nothing like the old 90s love the closing theme sounds relaxing back when things was different. When listen to this just takes me wonder what people where doing around that time. Still remember 1993 and 90s miss those were the good old days don't miss being a kid talking about was lose the problem child... LOL 😆
In the early 90s, one writer called GL "the most exciting hour of television during either day OR night" - for a reason. I miss those days of watching with my daughter. And I miss Michael Zaslow. A fine actor and wonderful man.
I get emotional watching and listening to this as I started watching soap operas in elementary school alongside my maternal grandmother. Favorites were The Young & The Restless, The Bold & the Beautiful, and Guiding Light.
Same thing too my grandma loves too watch guiding light guiding light is her favorite soap opera I remember watching that soap opera when I was a little kid Reva is her favorite character
This closing theme is just beautiful (music). With the names of the actors included, this session must be from June-Aug. 1992. There was scarcely a better soap opening/closing theme + visuals as this 1991 lighhouse "Hold on To Love" and the 1983-1986 "My Guiding Light" w/ the revolving/twirling "golden galaxy" visuals !!!!
AHHHHH Yes. MEMORIES!!!!. I was never a fan of Soap operas but my Mom is. I always looked forward to this & the PGP Logo at the end (Yep.....I was a weird kid liking closing tv logos but......yeah). Being 6 years old kicked ass.
this was when guiding light was guiding light. this brings back so many memories. i remember getting home from school the sally jessie show was after this. time has changed so much....
Interesting that you should say that! The next municipality over from where I grew up and live has a place called Winter Island that has a lighthouse (which was basically what it was known for when I was little) that I used to call Guiding Light when I was little. Here's the Wikipedia article about the place: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_Island
This is fan-made credits. The real credits alternated between a yellow-gold colored font and white font (crew title in yellow gold color and person's name in white; character name in yellow-gold color and actor's real name in white)...Also at the start of the credit scroll as the title faded out the first credit would fade in at the center of the screen and scroll halfway up...In this scroll, the first credit scrolls from the bottom...However this is a good recreation.
The longest runing scripted program in the history of humanity and I'm talking about countless eons of human evolution is the story of the Guiding Light. I wish that it could have at least done 100 years.
And that concluded our daytime soap i got hooked on guiding light and as the world turns in my early 20s sadly i was 2 years too late and fate played a cruel joke on me again 1 year later
so this is really the end.....wow! hard to believe...9-18-2009 was the last show...I would watch GL every now and then but my Grandmother would watch this every day until she passed away in the spring of 92.
These credits were around May or June 1992. Monti Sharp [David] first appeared around April 1992 (days prior to the Gilly-and-Hamp wedding, and Kimberley Simms's [Mindy] last appearance was in June (timed for the "Blackout" episodes).
Hearing this only reminds me that they cancelled The Guiding Light much too soon. Then they replaced it with something that no one was interested in seeing. Sad!
Even though Jill Farren Phelps did a stupid thing and killed off Maureen Bauer, I would still prefer her as Executive Producer than Paul Rauch. Paul Rauch hurt Guiding Light more than Jill Farren Phelps
My point is, the as world turns jelinda’s theme close remained in the same key throughout the credits and just faded, I would have liked for the GL closing to remain in A major and let it fade
This can't be from 1993. The legendary Beverlee McKinsey vacated the role of Alexandra Spaulding in the Summer of 1992. Marj Dusay took over in 1993, around the time of David's (Monti Sharp) murder trial.
Back when I was a kid, this theme let you know you were about to leave the soap opera block and into a hour of Inside Edition and Jeopardy followed by Oprah
Yeah, you're not alone. Lot of us hate them. Likewise over on TPIR (also part of CBS Daytime), the split screen credits mean you don't get to see the Showcase winners for very long.
I shed a tear each time I hear this as well. I miss it so much. These were the good old days.
The nostalgia brings tears to my eyes. My mom even taped this show so we could watch it after work/school. The ending credits always made me sad because an hour just wasn't enough time to visit Springfield each day and I hated the weekends, lol

I was on the verge of tears hearing this, but your comment brought them on. I watched this with my mom as well. I feel a lot the way you do.
I can relate me and my mom used to watch this show together i miss those days!
This was CBS last daytime soap for the afternoon
I just loved this theme, both the open and the close. I really miss the days of closing credit rolls. I don't think TV, and especially the soaps, will ever be as good as they were in the past.
What a great cast GL had back in 1993!
The memories! I loved GL and this closing song was my favorite one out of all the stories. My mom got me watching. Hearing this now makes me tear up.
It has that same effect on me even now! This closing theme was the best, and so was the opening! This show will always be missed!
Kable Corsey mine too. They used to play this one one Fridays to close the week out.
This theme was why I watched the show...
It was amazing to me.
I love the closing theme sounds so beautiful like something would play at a wedding watching your new spouse walk the day isle.
💯 ☀️
This particular theme brings back memories of my Grandmother. I used to watch this soap with her when I came home from high school every afternoon. And melodically, it is very soothing. :)
Aww man memories I used to watch guiding light when I was a kid I loved that show when I used to come home from school it will be on 🙏☺
...and i was always sooo glad they were! usually on fridays or thursdays), and it was part of the experience! I looked forward to them being this long, especially on the days when they used the cast still-photos under the credits. This song/theme is so beautiful.

"Sorely needed"? A soap opera?
@@mcmlxii4419Yes, a scripted dramatic serial program.
My favorite closing credits of a soap opera. ❤️
✅
And what a treat, the FULL theme and the FULL PGP logo.
The 90s was the golden era 4 Guiding Light.
this early 1990s theme was a revamped version of the early 1980s theme....either version was and still is in a state of beauty and relaxation.
Man i remember coming home from school and hearing this theme when my grandmother and sisters used to watch Guiding light
My grandmother made me watch whenever I was grounded
Same I have fond memories of hearing this theme at my grandmother’s house after school, if it wasn’t this theme song it was the old General Hospital theme if my grandmother switched over to ABC to not miss a second of Oprah at 4 pm.
Same here
I love this Guiding Light closing theme 1990-2002, it came out January 1991.This is the best GL closing theme ever, the longer version of this Old School Joint.I saw this show back in kindergarden when I was 5 & 6 years old. This is a good song to use in a wedding march for the bridesmaids & groomsmen.
I checked all the other Guiding Light tv show themes and this song is the best . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow. This is amazing. I love the music. It's too bad you don't see stuff like this nowadays. I'm adding this to my favorites, even though I've never seen one episode of the show.
🔥☕️
Sadly, the days of Good/quality opening and especially closing credit sequences on TV shows not on streaming services are long behind us.
This theme always made me sad on Friday’s. I had to wait the whole weekend for Monday. This cast crawl is when GL was on fire and Kim Zimmer wasn’t even on the show. LOL!!! Such great acting & amazing writing. I really miss the show especially this time frame.
Man i always love the music at the end back when i was a kid precious memories!! ☺️☺️
times have changed so much.. i remember watching with my grandmother too after school. RIP classic GL.
I remember when my Grandma used to watch all her grandkids at this time, she'd make the little ones (me, my little sister, and my younger cousins) sit down and watch her stories with her, and by the time this theme started playin', we were all conked out, and I was the last to conk out on my Nanna's stomach... yeah, I had a Big Mama. loved love the ending on this show.im glad some1 got this&shared this.this brought back so much memories of me&my moms.thanks.

Bring this back we need the light daily
O Chenault speak for yourself. I have JESUS!
I miss watch guiding light on tv
The only thing it's missing at the end is, "Good afternoon, from CBS News, this is NewsBreak."
And having that CBS News break be reported by Dan Rather!
Absolutely beautiful ⚘⚘
In the early 90s, one writer called GL "the most exciting hour of television during either day OR night" - for a reason.
I miss those days of watching with my daughter. And I miss Michael Zaslow. A fine actor and wonderful man.
I get emotional watching and listening to this as I started watching soap operas in elementary school alongside my maternal grandmother. Favorites were The Young & The Restless, The Bold & the Beautiful, and Guiding Light.
Miss you mom and granny..
Classic...the tears are welling up!
There was magic unlike any other in the 90’s
Same thing too my grandma loves too watch guiding light guiding light is her favorite soap opera I remember watching that soap opera when I was a little kid Reva is her favorite character
The short version of this, I would like that played at my funeral.
This closing theme is just beautiful (music). With the names of the actors included, this session must be from June-Aug. 1992.

This is fan made, despite what the uploader wants you to believe.
Doesn't change the fact its awesome though.
AHHHHH Yes. MEMORIES!!!!. I was never a fan of Soap operas but my Mom is. I always looked forward to this & the PGP Logo at the end (Yep.....I was a weird kid liking closing tv logos but......yeah). Being 6 years old kicked ass.
this theme is so beautiful... I am italian and in italy the theme of guiding light is "this is the time" a billy joel's song
I am not a real fan of Guiding Light, but this theme is pretty and moving.
this was when guiding light was guiding light. this brings back so many memories. i remember getting home from school the sally jessie show was after this. time has changed so much....
This reminds me watching with my grandmother
this takes me back as a child watching the guilding light my old show
Beautiful ❤️
Very beautiful.....
R.I.P Guiding Light!!!!
Whenever I see a lighthouse I think of Guiding Light
Interesting that you should say that! The next municipality over from where I grew up and live has a place called Winter Island that has a lighthouse (which was basically what it was known for when I was little) that I used to call Guiding Light when I was little.
Here's the Wikipedia article about the place:

The lighthouse made me think of the one on Tybee Island. I grew up near the ocean and that is what made me like lighthouses
This is fan-made credits. One of the stations that I know puts Guiding Light on before TPIR is WCBS-TV New York. Guiding Light comes on at 10 AM, followed by TPIR at 11 AM.
The longest runing scripted program in the history of humanity and I'm talking about countless eons of human evolution is the story of the Guiding Light. I wish that it could have at least done 100 years.
#Quick Turn On Da Light GUIDING LIGHT
I never cared about soup operas, but I loved hearing this theme back when I was coming home from school (my mom watches this).
The credits are 3 minutes long! You're lucky if the credits make 30 seconds these days.
And the song is great.
@pashotshot1
it was Rob Mounsey, who composed the theme music for GL for the 1991-2002 timespan.
I use to watch this with my mom when I was small
It is a sad day in Soap Opera land today. Thank you for the memories, Guiding Light.
Guiding light the daytime soap opera of all time on CBS
This sure beats those split screens and their adds playing for the millionth time.
Guiding light the daytime soap opera of all Time on CBS
And that concluded our daytime soap i got hooked on guiding light and as the world turns in my early 20s sadly i was 2 years too late and fate played a cruel joke on me again 1 year later
Kinda makes you wish you appreciated the ending credits to soaps (tv shows) back then.
When I used to hear this it’s Friday at 3:57 the weekend starts now I play it after I leave work for my weekend
The show sure was a class act in this era.
And Wayne Fitzgerald also did the title design during the "Llanview Bridges" era of One Life to Live from 1984-1991.
Love that tune! It sounds like "And like a good neighbor, State Farm is there" (Barry Manilow wrote that jingle believe it or not).
Wow what fond memories my favorite
This portion of Guiding Light was presented by New Era detergent. Era, New Hope For Tough Stains.
This is for my GrandAunt R.I.P she shall be our guiding light 1929-2015
so this is really the end.....wow! hard to believe...9-18-2009 was the last show...I would watch GL every now and then but my Grandmother would watch this every day until she passed away in the spring of 92.

From 1990-1994 2:54 this use to be my favorite thing. (Age 3 to 7) childhood.
I'll never forget the day I turned to CBS a couple minutes early for TPIR...
=)
This was GL's golden age for me!
GUIDING LIGHT The Daytime Soap Opera Of All Time On CBS
Hearing this only reminds me that they cancelled The Guiding Light much too soon. Then they replaced it with something that no one was interested in seeing. Sad!
the song is so sooth.
Guiding Light The Daytime Soap Opera Of All Time On CBS
Because the music is soothing and nice. Its what you expect to listen to in a health spa.
Even though Jill Farren Phelps did a stupid thing and killed off Maureen Bauer, I would still prefer her as Executive Producer than Paul Rauch. Paul Rauch hurt Guiding Light more than Jill Farren Phelps
He also left OLTL and AW in shambles.
Yes he did!
Something could had been to save this show! I miss watching Reva, Josh, Billy, Buzz, Alan, and Alex!!
Following Guiding Light in 1993, stay tuned for The Price is Right.
It was just my dream.
I'm gonna be watching the series finale today as well. Anyone else?
My greatest fear growing up in the 90s is this lighthouse.
The late 70s through the 80s were the best... started going down hill in the 90s.
My point is, the as world turns jelinda’s theme close remained in the same key throughout the credits and just faded, I would have liked for the GL closing to remain in A major and let it fade
This is the only version I remember of this theme...like I don't remember the closing credits with the cast memeber shots...
And you have to wonder what will take its place..after all, it's the longest running soap opera in the history of daytime TV.
This can't be from 1993. The legendary Beverlee McKinsey vacated the role of Alexandra Spaulding in the Summer of 1992. Marj Dusay took over in 1993, around the time of David's (Monti Sharp) murder trial.

This has been "The Guy with the Light". LOL
Seeing NIA LONG IS SO BEAUTIFUL
Don't forget the full PGP logo, as that's a rarity as much as this is.
I never watched GL but wow what a beautiful music sad it's ended
Yeah, you're not alone. Lot of us hate them. Likewise over on TPIR (also part of CBS Daytime), the split screen credits mean you don't get to see the Showcase winners for very long.

The x-men cartoon theme song is cool too
The theme song for the young and the restless is moving also.
In Virginia the show would be on after most kids got out of school. Texas as well as the east coast was a whole different story.
