- Finally we reach the point in this long history of struggle at which there was the first significant change to the Parliamentary franchise since Henry VI in 1432. It had taken exactly 4 centuries . Images: (1) 3rd Dragoon Guards suppress the 1831 Bristol riots following defeat of the second attempt at a Reform Bill, (2) Sir Francis Burdett, early, but unsupported, campaigner for universal suffrage.
