Thanks elliott, i hope you have found peace. Facing alot of pain from my early life, trying to separate love and abuse is such a hard thing. My boundaries are all shot. Its hard when people can see your wounds, lots of codependency arising and self sabotage. I feel alot of shame. Your music has helped me face things and im grateful for that and you were so brave with your vulnerability. I wish you could have had some space to heal in this lifetime.
Now that everybody's worn the expression Not that you wanted to use It seems untrue now But the funniest thing is It fits you now To a perfect T You may never understand this affliction Although you feel the effects you feel Bruised now, body and mind you feel Used now, almost all of the time Been abused Abused Abused Sunday morning in the aisle with my brother Watching the men in black tell the youths how You're supposed to behave, and tell the truth now You don't know what you're saying We've been abused Abused Abused Abused Abused Abused Abused Other people see some evil intention But the closer you get The more you get confused how Why does everyone know Been abused now Didn't want it to show
@@aidanb7797 I just listened to True Love for the first time and that may be his masterpiece (in my opinioin. I used to think it was king's crossing (still one of my favs though)
@@aidanb7797 agreed. Kings Crossing by a mile. This one definitely was gonna be single of the album we never got to hear. It was supposed to be a dual disc release. Wish I had a portal gun so I could go live in the world where He Is still around. This world is broken a thing.
"Other people see some evil intention, but the closer you get, the more you get confused... how, why does everyone know?" I've never gone through crazy abuse as a child, but it sure sounds like he did. RIP my man
it truly is a great lyric. one day it hits you that the abuser is an empty vessel basically. not there. no self. just like a walking zombie with impulses. It's frightening af, especially when it is parents, and also completely freeing. once again, truly a great lyric
@FRANCISCO ARMIJO the only way ive found is to allow space for covered feelings to be expressed, its the only way to get to forgiveness. If there hidden they just express themselve in destructive behaviour
I’ve made s connection to this song in recent months. I’ve come to understand that abuse comes in many forms. I feel that I have been abused, perhaps not in same way Elliott Smith was when he was a boy, but used and abused nonetheless. I have lost my identity. And I am described as “deeply depersonalized” and I can barely stand to be alone....what friends I have left I have enlisted into babysitting me.
I really wish this song could have been fleshed out more. It's close. It's almost there but not quite, or at least sounds that way to my ear. The vocal levels are off in parts. The subject matter, however, makes me want cry, like so many of his songs. Sometimes people ask me why I like Elliott Smith's music so much. They tend to think I'm down in the dumps, as if I should only listen to his music when I feel a certain way, which is, of course, total horse shit. I may not know, but from watching his interviews, he didn't strike me as the sort of guy that was serially sad. Of course he had his bouts but I ask, who doesn't? When I listen to his music I don't hear as much sadness as some hear. Sure there are songs that are just soul wrenching (Everything Means nothing to Me, Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands--which is more angry, I think, and Stickman, to name a few) but there are songs like Independence Day and Baby Britain that keep his music outside of the mold, so to speak. Anyway, just some thoughts. Be safe out there.
I'm Thankful every day. Elliott Smith is the only musician I have made such a deep connection with . I don't know where Iwould get the release of his music if it didn't exist.
I think he would have great appreciation for empaths if it was a thing back then, but, we'll only learn from what he wanted shared and how important it was.
@@GrantValdes a lot of the later songs, you can definitely identify when he's using a pick. Giving me a good reason to listen through XO again though, so thanks :)
At 1:17 when the lyrics come back in it's so powerful and amazing. That melody is so cool, the way it ascends then descends is perfect. It gets me everytime
I love Elliott smith so much. Literally got full body goosebumps and I’ve listened to this song for years and it still hits me like this. Musics great

check out Sam Vaknin. Might resonate, might not. His videos on parasites/voices in your brain helped me stop the dominant patterns of destruction.
Now that everybody's worn the expression
Not that you wanted to use
It seems untrue now
But the funniest thing is
It fits you now
To a perfect T
You may never understand this affliction
Although you feel the effects you feel
Bruised now, body and mind you feel
Used now, almost all of the time
Been abused
Abused
Abused
Sunday morning in the aisle with my brother
Watching the men in black tell the youths how
You're supposed to behave, and tell the truth now
You don't know what you're saying
We've been abused
Abused
Abused
Abused
Abused
Abused
Abused
Other people see some evil intention
But the closer you get
The more you get confused how
Why does everyone know
Been abused now
Didn't want it to show
Can’t hold back the tears, oh my god!!!
This really is the most heartbreaking song he wrote...
Yet it also sounds like a huge hit single.
King's Crossing

Hey, are you missmisery8 on instagram too? I love your art! But yeah, I agree.

This song hurts hes taken away all the layers he put on to cover the trauma at the heart of everything

do you want to talk, man?
I hope you make it out of this slump man its hard
Probably Elliott Smith’s the most underrated song
This is my favorite E.S. song
I love how much you post
I love him
amazing song
Wow that was amazing always awesome and great to find one I never heard before.

it really is heartbreaking. Content wise. But as it is, its beautiful in its simplicity and as an idea as opposed to a finished tune.
Lucas Smith - Just be glad you got any of his music to listen to like this gem.

It's not mastered, and a low-gen copy. Maybe someday it'll come out :)

Is he use a guitar pick?
It sounds like it..
First time I noticed him using one in a song
Huh, I hadn’t noticed that before, but I’m pretty sure he is. That’s interesting.
He uses a pick on "Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands." I'm sure lots more, but I happen to be listening to that one right now...
@@GrantValdes a lot of the later songs, you can definitely identify when he's using a pick. Giving me a good reason to listen through XO again though, so thanks :)
He definitely uses a pick on Angel in The Snow, but it does still seem rare.
i wish i didn't relate so much i don't want to feel it
Is that what my nose would look like if not for all of my abusers?
The bass at 1:25 sounds like the weird bassy pad used in Beserk 1997 music
me and him have a freakishly similar life. super turbo-religious people usually have no business having kids
i am very sorry about that, hope you are okay 😕
