Maybe im completely on the wrong side here, but if you are going this route of reprap, clearly cheap and easy, why not find a way to use the pvc as the actual rods? Like, it is not like these consumer reprap tollerances are the end of the world, if the frame can be made of the shit, i really dont think the bearing rods would make a huge difference.
