- The 50th Anniversary of Miles Davis' Kind of Blue is a very historic event. Legacy Recordings is releasing a Collector's Edition Box set on September 30 to celebrate this very important release. Take a look at this piece and see why this is such an important release, if you don't already know.
Possibly the greatest album of all time.
Only five pieces of music... but could cover and capture any mood for the listener.
Sounds crazy, but I remember sitting in my car in traffic and Flamenco Sketches was playing. The weather was cold and rainy with just a touch of snow... and it was just a perfect moment. Magic.
Thanks Miles... lol... I even had a cat named after him.
I had a cat named Miles... He was the coolest cat ever.
Wish I had heard it 15 years before I did in the mid 70's.
Been a Jazz addict ever since.
Thanks for posting the doc, I'm sharing it.
Miles Davis is one of my all-time favourite musicians, and to some people that's surprising, because he didn't really have the same level of technical virtuosity that guys like Dizzy Gillespie did. But what Miles did have was that rare gift of being able to play the perfect note every time. You listen to his solos, and it's like it was meant to be. You can't even imagine the music without the notes he plays - until he plays it again, in a different way, and it's perfect all over again..

i totally agree with ed bradley it is the most significant album i have ever heard.it is an album that i can play every day of my life.
Kind of Blue...Kind of Cool...Kind of Miles. When I was really turning on to jazz (1975-1981), Davis took a six year vacation (to re-discover his art). There is no excuse for my missing his final 10 years (1981-1991) except I probably had lost my mind. Those who disliked this were probably jealous. And I can understand that. When you miss the baddest, coolest, greatest jazz musician ever to walk the earth you've got to get angry at something.
its the next gen man im downloading it right now, all kinds of ages listen to all kinds of music especially with the internet these days : )
Magical, perfect. Oh God, thank you for this wonderful musician.
They are all Great, but Kind of Blue is my favorite!
a TRUE artist ...... musicians today couldn't carry his laundry. There will never be another artist like him !!
Jazz makes me feel pretty joyous really. The fact that Miles and the rest of these cats were gifted and talented is just the icing on the cake.
This is about as good as it gets. It's happy, sad and cool all at the same time.
This is my favorite album of all time, no doubt.
All wound up, feeling hyper...turn out the lights, strap on the earphones, turn on this.
Total chill.
The Kind Of Blue album is the single standing alone best ever jazz album... simply divine & sublime... no other can or has come close to touching it...
50jaar geleden ,kind of blue gekocht ❤.
Er zijn vele goede platen de revue gepasseerd, maar je houdt altijd een special 🎉.
I'm still in agreement. "Kind of Blue" is the without a doubt, the finest jazz recording ever. I know its been said time and time again, but if you want to listen to and learn about jazz, this album is the one to begin with. That's right, I said album. (I still have my original album purchase in perfect condition although I did purchase the box set on CD.)
Beyond sublime!
Discovering...how genuine of MIles...what a man.
simply amazing, a cathartic harmonic convergence of time and space,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Pure Genius! Kind of blue is a timeless classic.
Hearing Miles Is like a gourmet food for your soul...
Happy B'day Mr Davis, thanks for your legacy
So BRIGHT and BLUE ....
I love this record.
The genius!!! the master!!!, the one and only Miles Davis!!!. This tune is one of my favorites!. "So what"!.
miles has a real nice sound to him. Can't say much more, I ain't no music expert or jazz man, but I know what sounds good and what doesn't. nice.
Music making history. Nothing like Kind of Blue, nobody like Miles. My life is happier because of the album. It sound ridiculous, but is true.
Miles Davis The Genius!
This album is amazing.
I remember playing "Four" in my schools jazz band we had listened to it first and it was amazing. Then when we played and instead of the suggested tempo we start at almost double time. It made the song that more memorable to us but we all stilled loved how the original went.
Sans doute le plus grand album de blues chez les Bopers, immense et incontournable transition dans la musique du 20ème siècle Miles était un Génie entouré de génies.
Un capolavoro assoluto.
Grazie Miles.
Kind of Blue, possibly the coolest album ever made.
Definitely
Absolutely
This album changed me
What can I say, THANK YOU!!!
I do love Miles Davis´ music.
Genius !! What more ???
I have a Bible and Miles! Speaking only for myself, I enjoy them both passionately....Bblessed
This is a masterpiece in musical recording.
Miles ahead. He was great.
Miles.......Sho' Nuff!
man the first time I heard it I knew miles had gotten to that place, God I said to myself to think I have been given the privilege to be alive to testify
Brilliant! My god, wonderful.
The Greatest!
I think I was 24 when I heard it. The documentary is correct. If you were a musician or really have a passion for music this is a must have. I do believe his nephew did a hip-hop rendition of one of the songs. Now before you knock it. Listen to it.
This was play in the backround of the Tommy B. show KBCA 105.1 Jazz Los Angeles back in the day
I'm amazed this album solk so many copies at the time. It certainly isn't "easy" music, and of course back then modal jazz was very new.
people should not be alowed to talk aboute this it is some holy shit
Mile Davis was the Pelé of trumpet
Etiketem Embalagens Na verdade, o Pelé que é o Miles Davis do futebol.
Pelé was the Miles Davis of football/soccer
Bruno C.
Just relaxing......
this album is sorta spooky in a way. I love the way it makes me feel
I've been saying, this album has been "Haunting" me since I have discovered it.
6:56 So true. I would feel safe recommending this album to anyone.
Wat Miles Davis betekende voor de jazz is wat David Bowie betekent heeft voor de popcultuur en Beethoven voor de klassieke muziekontwikkeling.
Susanne de Swaen I agree. (And I don't know why but I understand this comment even though I am not dutch.)
Miles was the Stravinsky of Jazz.
Both awarded by UNESCO, if I remember well, as the musicians with the great influences in 20th century music.
They are called valves and keys, interchangeably, but you are correct
I don’t trust anyone that doesn’t have Kinda Blue in their record collection .
let's see!
Tre bon mon ami! Merci.
true that
@Sdiddy810 ... Add this to your list of reasons to listen to MD: It's 4:52 am and there's nothing better to hear.
bk8288 & Sdiddy810 said it all....Right-On!
oh yeah...
Thanks God, "El País" spanish newspaper offer this LP , FOR only 7 euros. I collect vynils, but couldn t afford the one of l959, Anyway, I m happy. Miles is at my home.
That's true
Does being 27 and having Kind of Blue as my favourite album count to help answer this?
if you enjoy music, you should listen to kind of blue - what a trip to the brain. And pretty much the opposite of "trip to the brain" by Suicidal Tendencies, although that is also a good tune.
Lets have a heated debate on the best pianist on the album - Wynton Kelly or Bill Evans???
Miles with "pianists Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly, drummer Jimmy Cobb, bassist Paul Chambers, and saxophonists John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley" fan-fuckin-tastic.
It's in no way like blowing into a kazoo. You hum into a kazoo, you buzz into a trumpet. It's one of the hardest instruments to play, because your face isn't built to do that. It actually hurts to play for too long or to play too high. Though you are correct about the keys. There are indeed three of them and you do indeed press them down. In fact, there are only 7 ways that you can press them down. The flip side of that is controlling which note you get by tightening or loosening your lips.
I can name at least 10 rap songs to introduce to the person who "doesn't like rap" that will make them question that statement.
I like how Herbie Hancock put it....'he wanted to capture the spirit of discovery'...that's jazz.
Alguien sabe si la edición en España viene subtitulada?? Gracias
I have the box set but lost the dvd. Is it available anywhere?
Does it contain the full documentary of the studio film or is this it?
Its actually classified as Cool Jazz. Miles Davis is one of the first Cool Jazz performers.
That's Blue in Green from this (Kind of Blue) album.
WAIT A MINUTE! This opening ISN'T a RECORDING from: "KIND OF BLUE". It's a rendition! Later, on, thank you... . YET- AGAIN... it doesn't FINISH with "IT"!
Maybe I'm quibbling. BlackIrish n' all... . (I'm not black- but it sounds good...) May OUR Lord Bless Miles Davis for mandkind's sake... I'm glad my mother was a pearl diver, because I'll have to hold my breath for quite a while waiting for another 'Davis to
wander through our lives. May God bless you all!
@Gnocchi
same with me, but now I think its never too late.
The album was recorded originally 3/2/59 - 4/22/59, so next March/April will be the 54th anniversary. Must take history seriously
Me too Samuel
what song is playing in the background at 6:38-6:44? PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME!!!
il miglior disco jazz
not going to lie, ryan leslie sent me here...but he now showed me something nice,,,
Since when is jazz more about skill than how it makes you feel? Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean you should hate it.
The Brits have been very dedicated students of American classics. Radiohead claim Charles Mingus as their major influence.
@diegolomonaco
The best song written by a human
What is the name of the Song that begins at 0:12 ?
@Gnocchi Classic statement! Well done. Reminds me of other side of a Philip Larkin poem:
Sexual intercourse began
In nineteen sixty-three
(Which was rather late for me) -
Between the end of the Chatterly ban
And the Beatles' first LP.
The original cool.
The real deal.
Jazz has always demanded virtuosity. You could argue that Bebop got a little carried away with the technical side.
@Sdiddy810 There's about a million others you're missing.
@Gnocchi Or too early, better is always yet to come.
People are usually exposed to it in college, as I was. But if you play an instrument or have family who know music, you'll probably hear it earlier.
You are assuming that jazz doesn't make people feel in a certain way. Jazz has a lot to do with feeling... yeah it's also complicated theorywise, but that doesn't mean anything.
People tend to create false dichotomies. Complexity vs. feeling is one.
@Sdiddy810
11. You started playin' Miles, so play twice.
12. You're comparing him with with Hank Mobley, but they're both good so you play 'em again.
13. You couldn't breathe without him.
14. The weather involves clouds.
15. You're just making excuses now.
16.
3:59 - 4:08 Miles takes a couple big tokes while 'Trane is wailin'.
The thing is that John Coltrane was there
If Peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis ;)
