I absolutely _LOVE_ this series. It's got the same types of fun and random creativity things that Minecraft used to, but a bit more structure and some physics stuff added in that Smiffy is clearly a massive fan of. It's really cool to see you lads having such fun on a creative game like this again. I really hope that updates keep improving the game and its capabilities.
Start at the back of the start zone and begin accelerating before the gate is down, so you're already getting up to speed before the timer starts. Also, I'm not sure of the Trailmakers mechanics, but you could try building drop boosters with the big engines (run them at the beginning of the race and drop them as soon as they run out of fuel (or whatever), so you aren't dragging dead weight). Same principle as multi-stage rockets.
Not sure at what level the physics are in this game, but if the drag race doesn't require wheels, try building a hovering dragster. Rolling friction could be adding to your times.
The trade off there is that you'd still be carrying dead weight all the time. Also if you tried that you'd need to have a multiple of 4 engines otherwise you'd be imbalanced.
XxStuart96xX actually you could get by at a minimum of 6. Two per side toward the front, running in three groups of two. The cooldown time is somewhere around 1.15x the running time meaning you would need to have two set overlapping at all times.
This game is excellent, I love watching you guys getting creative and I’d love to see what you could come up with for all the rest of the tracks. Keep up the great content Ps, that clicking, I was crying with laughter when Smith couldn’t talk properly
Maybe use the big engines (the ones that only stay on for a little while) but have two or three different groups so you can alternate them and always have at least a few of them boosting?
The engines on the cars are essentially just dead weight. You get probably 90+% of your acceleration from the rockets, so if you take off the engines your thrust to weight ratio will probably be more favorable for traveling at higher speeds.
So to make it faster, dragon engines are great, but have a few of the bigger ones, but set each one to a key. Once you start, fire one, then once it goes out fire the other. This maintains the speed of the larger rocket while the little ones have consistent boost. To deal with the drag/weight issue, place them in the middle towards the bottom of the car, below the frames or in between if possible.
Rocket staging. Could do it in this drag race and get rid of the dead weight when they begin to cool down or could just try and create rockets with at least 2 stages? Anyway I'm really enjoying this series and appreciate every video you upload!
Can you jettison things in this game? If so, it might be a good idea to get the temporary boost engines at the start and just drop them when they finish
Studying the science behind drag racers would probably be a good bet. It's very different from Nascar, or standard track racing, after all. From what I've seen, though, you guys have the right idea.
Have a challenge race where you have to make either a motorbike, a monowheel or a walker. Or to make it as concise as possible: You not allowed more than two wheels.
With two wheels at those speeds it would be nigh impossible to complete a race, especially with the lag they have. Three wheels however might be a nice idea.
Racing Track definitely, boiks. I think seeing you guys attempt to build vehicles that can maneuver as well as be fast would be a very interesting (and hilarious) to see. I also support the attempt to make motorcycles.
I know I'm late to the party but, is it required to use wheels? If you used hovercraft you wouldn't need to worry about any ground friction. Also the start zone is big enough to start in the back and speed up a little before the timer finishes the count down. If you have any initial speed, your times will be much quicker. Hopefully this helps!
Can the two types of engines be used in tandem? So there'd be a continuous thrust with an additional boost every now and then? Fitted on a lightweight frame, I think this might work well. Maybe hovering without wheels to reduce drag (although that might be against the rules)
Can you set up the rockets to different keys and activate them at different times? The biggest drop offs in speed seem to be them cutting out and recharging.
woah, that clicking was pretty intense, haha I feel like they could get even closer to beating the record, given more time and especially with some of the suggestions people have given! Regardless though, I'd love to see more of this game, it's so much fun!
That's not quite how friction works. If you imagine a box on the floor that is, say, 1x1x1 and another box on the floor that is .1x.1x100, and they both have the same density, they will also both experience the exact same friction. I.E. Friction is not dependent on the surface area in contact. One way to think of it is that, while you'd have less wheels, you'd also have more weight on each wheel. A better solution would be to use a material that has a lower coefficient of friction or to somehow create lift for your vehicle. I was wondering why you wouldn't just make something that flies.
One less wheel would reduce overall friction slightly because the wheel itself weighs a certain amount. It would increase the friction from each wheel but decrease the overall friction of the vehicle on the ground.
You guys could try staging. Have a couple of dragons to maintain speed then have boosters that fall off to push the speed and when one set fires and is done another kicks in.
Pitch engines down. Constast plus booster engines. Only engines, cockpit, and, wheels. Smallest wheels up front slightly larger in back. Idk i never played, loved the vid keep it up boiks.
I reckon one big engine with 4 little ones is the key. On a tiny, lightweight frame, it should pick up a lot of speed quickly, and because it's only one big one, the smaller engines should maintain the speed
They need to do a best of three, where after each round they can improve their vehicle. The building and competition is fun, but lacking the iterative improvements to the vehicle is what this is missing.
They should do similar competitions in SimplePlanes. they could compete in speed, range of flight, maneuverability, etc, and plus it's a more polished and less laggy game.
Lads, try using the hover blocks instead of wheels along with skeleton frames and a LOT of boosters - seems the fastest times use these. Although does the lack of wheels mean it's not a dragster...?
I might be wrong on this one, but do your cars need to be able to turn? I was thinking if you are only meant to go in a strait line why bother; maybe that would get rid of the spins/flips
Alternate boosts from different sets of the powerful engines like a time delay system. Eg 3 on one button config, another 3 on another button config, and rotate between the two engine systems. I'm drunk and this is simple logic lol
You could make a car that would drop its thrusters so that when you hit the cool down, you drop them and keep using the ones with no cool down. This would allow max acceleration and then reduce your weight in the race.
I've tested the drag race out thoroughly and found that the best way to get more speed is with more clicking

Pierce Arner And it’s lagginess
Can't agree with this comment more!
*Legend has It Smith can still hear the clicks even to this day*

John Drake do they have drop boosters?
+Kiwi Bird No but you could implement them with the thrusters that only work for a certain time and the detacher things.
This is a fantastic idea. Love to see it tried

There is a separate track to the right of this one for hovering.
12:49 the track on the right is the hover race.
I hate begging for Trailmakers on every other video, but each of these makes it harder not to
Please please make more of this! I want MORE SPEED
ESPORTS READY
Can you bind different sets of engines. So say have 3 fast engines set to 1 and 3 set to 2. So when they hit cooldown you simply hit 2.
glad I checked as I was going to suggest the same thing, if you group enough you could get constant running almost
Homer Cooper you can and I’ve tried it, it doesn’t work well, it’s more a matter of friction or weight to power ratio
Homer Cooper I

Trott's joke at 2:10 is a bit oof nowadays.
Come on Creggle. Stop being such a prude and craig Trott up already. #craigtrottup
Smith master of the metronome

I love those 5sec fps freezes, really pleasant to watch / play im sure ;D
i'm loving this series so far guys I hope you do more stuff like it
Personally, i would really enjoy more episodes of you guys trying to shave down your times on the drag race. this was super fun to watch!

I love the sense of progression from the leader board, for fun events like this more than just one episode would really tickle my pickle
This game keeps getting more awesome! It's honestly one of the best games you guys have ever played
Can you jettison things in this game? If so, it might be a good idea to get the temporary boost engines at the start and just drop them when they finish
This series is amazing, you should try doing motorbikes see if that works
Please do a stream trying to get to number 1 on the leaderboard!!!!!
Tick-tock, Tick-Tock, TICK-TOCK, *TICK-TOCK*...
Please do all the races , I love this series!
Man it's like someones just tapping a bean can a million miles an hour right next to smiths head xD
Great stuff guys ,absolutely love the trail makers videos
This series is great, hoping to see more!
More, so much more of this please
Can you add the bigger engines for the initial boost of speed then somehow detach them when they're used up to lower the weight?
I was thinking the same thing - probably because I've been playing Kerbal Space Program a lot recently. :P
Smith, you can use some big rockets to get you up to speed and then a bunch of dragon rockets to keep you there. Best channel hands down.
I really want to see if they can make walkers in trailblazers, the basic components should be there.

Absolutely love these trailmakers vids

2:10 A tradition, with some success.
use three wheels, two rear wheels and one in the front. Less friction
how about no *vehicle*
That's not quite how friction works. If you imagine a box on the floor that is, say, 1x1x1 and another box on the floor that is .1x.1x100, and they both have the same density, they will also both experience the exact same friction. I.E. Friction is not dependent on the surface area in contact.

That's technically true, but I don't think that's what OP intended.
GEM4sta wheels made of ice
can you trigger the rockets at different times? maybe set up every other rocket to activate with a different key, then alternate as you race?
You guys could try staging. Have a couple of dragons to maintain speed then have boosters that fall off to push the speed and when one set fires and is done another kicks in.
This is one of my favorite hat film series ever
6:53 easily best reaction I’ve ever seen
If you've played Kerbal Space Program, you already know the answer to any problem is MORE BOOSTERS
Pitch engines down. Constast plus booster engines. Only engines, cockpit, and, wheels. Smallest wheels up front slightly larger in back. Idk i never played, loved the vid keep it up boiks.
Where you're going, you don't need wheels. Try to turn using additional thrusters that are bound to LEFT and RIGHT, just like a jet!
My favorite series at the moment I think. It's really awesome ^u^
I don’t know how you guys can get faster but I definitely want to see you keep trying
smiths entrance was amazing, "why havnt you put more rockets on yours?"
I reckon one big engine with 4 little ones is the key. On a tiny, lightweight frame, it should pick up a lot of speed quickly, and because it's only one big one, the smaller engines should maintain the speed
These are your best videos currently
You guys should do a dog fighting challenge where you each make your own fighters and do a battle to the death to see who's done the best.
Great game to watch, happy you are playing more
Early bird catches the boik
beach racing would be quite fun - especially with non-beach vehicles xD
This is my favorite series right now.
Imma take a wild guess and say that the guys at the top of the scoreboard just build raw thruster sleds.
Pakorn Wattanavrangkul that's what I was thinking, I've never played the game tho
They need to have wheels, they have a separate course for vehicles without wheels.
Actually you can use no wheels on this one i tried it the other day
They need to do a best of three, where after each round they can improve their vehicle. The building and competition is fun, but lacking the iterative improvements to the vehicle is what this is missing.
They should do similar competitions in SimplePlanes. they could compete in speed, range of flight, maneuverability, etc, and plus it's a more polished and less laggy game.
The lag is coming from the undercarriage dragging and colliding with the ground
Lads, try using the hover blocks instead of wheels along with skeleton frames and a LOT of boosters - seems the fastest times use these. Although does the lack of wheels mean it's not a dragster...?
now that they've mentioned blockle i want to see them play that again
Smith's clicking is amazing haha
you guys should stage your engines with different key bindings so you get constant thrust rather than lots of powerful bursts
try putting lots of engines to the point it lifts up and then put downward facing engines on to counter it.
Love this series
You guys can already do the hovercraft course with your pod racers almost. I think trotts can’t go on water yet, so that’s an issue
I might be wrong on this one, but do your cars need to be able to turn? I was thinking if you are only meant to go in a strait line why bother; maybe that would get rid of the spins/flips
Smiffy from 6:30 to 6:44 made me laugh my ass off.
Such a great series!
Maybe you need to make planes or hover vehicles for this so that you dont have the ground friction
Enjoyed the video love the ticking
Please do more of this, maybe a drag stream in drag??
if you can, use the hover pads on the lower part of your vehicles. That way, there's no friction with the ground
lmao its like a jungle of a million clicking insects!
PLEASE PLEASE MORE OF THIS
I bet if you just made a big straight sausage covered in thrusters it'd probably be the winner.
Would a hover craft go faster from the less friction?
Alternate boosts from different sets of the powerful engines like a time delay system. Eg 3 on one button config, another 3 on another button config, and rotate between the two engine systems. I'm drunk and this is simple logic lol
I'm not sure that would change anything - you'd still get the same thrust and have the same amount of dead weight.
What a drag this race was.
The off-road track sounds like it would be a glorious mess.
Hoverpads instead of traditional wheels will remove the friction and mitigate a lot of weight.
the clickining love it boiks keep up the building
I think for the drag race the way to make it fast is to go with a motorcycle type vehicle, narrow and light weight
idk whats available in the game but a stage-based rocket car could be awesome
now hear me out, Jousting!
If you guys use hover engine's you will reduce the friction between you and the ground making you faster
5:33 I'M ON THE BOARD BELOW TROTTY
i'd like to see them do a stream where they just keep trying to get better times, then with youtube videos short build challenges
You could make a car that would drop its thrusters so that when you hit the cool down, you drop them and keep using the ones with no cool down. This would allow max acceleration and then reduce your weight in the race.
Someone plays Kerbal Space Program
Will Lear -never heard of it 😅 just an idea based on how rockets work.
Weirdly I had the same idea because I do play Kerbal Space Program! :P You do a lot of detaching rockets that have run out of fuel in that game.
More of this plz
Use two engines one for the front two tires and one for the back two
Can someone else trigger the gate to drop while you're leading up to it in multiplayer? That would save a huge amount of time.
