I feel so sorry for the turnspit dogs. That's so mean and sad. Actually this is all very depressing. Dog's left to starve because they no longer had a use for them or they were eating the salmon.
Another dog that is going extinct is the otterhound. There’s less then 600 worldwide. It’s very sad because they’re beautiful dogs. They started declining when otter hunting became illegal in Britain. They’re big fluffy dogs that are super sweet and funny. They’re hounds, so they’re very vocal. They come in stunning coat colors. They’re quite large, at around 80-120 lbs. They’re good with kids and other larger animals, but not so great around small animals unless they’ve been socialized from a young age. Overall just very good doggies

The fuegian dog is another dog that is extinct but the strange thing is that this dog is not related to other dogs it is descended from a culpeo which is a South American fox
The English White Terrier is basically the Doodle. Cross bred, insane and unpredictable health issues… literally the same background as every doodle ever. There’s no such thing as a purebred doodle.

In recent decades, it seems to me that collies (large Lassie-style) have been in great decline. I think I've seen fewer than a dozen in the past 50 years here in the US! Among large dogs, retrievers, shepherds, and border collies have largely taken over. And the smaller shelties have some popularity.
I'd guess the same of Irish setters. I haven't seen one in decade. But I have seen a few lassies. Not a big fan of either. But have nothing them. Unlike the chow and periknees. Which I do not like. Chows get doggy Alzimers start at 3 years. And periknees are just aggressive dogs. I swear they are on meth.

She was downright PERFECT. She was loyal to me but friendly to others. We had her for something like 12 years. We had no idea of her breed.
The Bullenbeisser may have been USED for boar hunting, but it was originally BRED to take down Aurochs (wild bulls), Hence why it is called a Bullenbeisser (if it was bred for boar hunting it would be called an Eberbeisser.) Later (when Aurochs became extinct, they were also popular among butchers for herding cattle into pens and dealing with particularly irascible bulls. And the Bullenbeisser had an even BIGGER cousin breed called the Bearenbessier, meant for bear hunting.

It's really disturbing when a breed of dog has died out. The white terrier i understand due to it's health problems but all the others ? I've grown up with dogs all my life and I'd never abandon any of my fur babies, let alone abandon them in a frozen wasteland. If i ever got my hands on assholes like that there's gonna be violence. They all sound wonderful dogs. The turnspit as well, that would definitely be a popular house dog

I would like to get a hold of two of these dogs to be in my sled team, looking to do it with contacting a breeder and advocate for the breed that works with the Iditarod race in alaska along with a native breed of mine and an other russian breed! This absolutely GORGEOUS breed needs to be saved and integreted in the dog sledding world
Fun fact. In the late 60s/70s in the northern territories, the RCMP purpously killed a bunch of the huskies to force the natives to adapt to an industrialized life style claiming they had rabies when the owners all knew that wasn’t the case. :/

My jar nearly dropped when I saw the last dog. The Russian Tracker. My grandma had the exact dog in the picture and in my life even today I never saw a dog like that again. It was one of its kind. Sadly it died years ago but I did not know that it went instinct. Possibly the man who gave the dog to my grandma had many like that.........
The sakhalin husky isn't extinct. It's crittically endangered. Because on Wikipedia is it not in the category extinct dog breeds, but in rare dog breeds. And, how can there be so many modern photo's aviable with sakhalin huskys (even modern photo's of sakhalin husky puppys), are all those sakhalin huskys (even the puppys) in those modern photo's dead by now

dude i’ve had my dog for almost eight years and we’ve never been able to identify his breed. the vet says he definitely some cross breed and is also overbreed causing him to have some health issues but he looks like a kuri and a turn spit dog and now i’m really contemplating getting him a dna test

Gazehounds were not "in" and the line discontimued. AND the hunting strain of Dalmatian dogs - due to UK Kennel club barring the registration. In order to protect the 7 breeds of local scenthounds after the WWII the autorities forbade hunting with non-registered dogs so the line of hunting Dalmatians ended.
This will continue to happen as breeds fall in and out of favour with humans I can understand a lot of the reasons behind these times were tough and most people couldn't afford another mouth to feed.

Thank you for sharing that was an interesting video a shame about the breed that started the boxer and the spaniel that later became the golden retriever truly were nice looking dogs for their time this is the first I've ever heard of a breed going extinct I just never gave it much thought I guess
