The "long exposure" merges all the frames (photos) in that 1.5 seconds and they result in a nice effect.On proper cameras or even most android smartphones in manual mode you have to close the f stop to make a perfectly exposed image when the shutter is open 1.5 seconds.You can make them to look the same but the two methods work differently
Apparently, if you save to Google Photos and copy the image back to the phone it takes away the effects options. I took a new photo that I tried manipulating with the effects and it worked.
Why didn't I come across channel sooner!? This is exactly what I've been looking for. I've had a dslr in the past but they're just not for me. I love my iPhone 8 but I never knew it was so capable! I'm tempted to get an iPhone 10 to take my photos to the next level. Thanks so much for producing excellent quality tutorials, in a very easy to understand way. The only photography channel I subscribe to! 👍🏻👏🏻

Does the long exposure option only work if you have taken the picture with AE/AF locked? I can’t get it to swipe up on my iPhone X on iOS 11.4.

Your photo must be taken with Live Photo mode on. When viewing the photo on Photos app, the image should say LIVE on the upper left hand corner.
