Thank you my man, appreciate it!!
I learned something today, thanks👍
Glad to hear!
I think there is an even deeper point at work here, which you hint at a few times: almost all jobs are very intellectually stimulating and overall super interesting at the top level. That goes not just for consulting and IB, but also professions such as audit or IT consulting, as well as just working for a normal company. The problem is how to get to that top level in a sustainable way. When I interned in audit, for example, I realized that that's a really interesting and stimulating job at senior management level, but also that the way there contains many years of absolutely mindnumbing, boring work at long hours for low pay. I felt that I wouldn't be able to push through that for so long. When I went into consulting, I found that - as you eluded to - you have much more interesting and stimulating work already at junior levels. That makes it a much more sustainable journey for me.
100% agree, the more senior you go, the more conceptual and "interesting" the job can get because you're now able to delegate the "less fun" tasks to junior team members.
great video!
Thanks! 😀
Is it true that there is a massive difference in the rates that consultants charge for projects working for governments and fortune 500 companies? I've noticed that in software development consulting the pay gaps can vary massively. Trying to become a software engineer after finishing my studies, but want to get into software development consulting eventually
I've only worked on projects for fortune 500 companies and private equity clients so far, but from what I can tell the rates definitely do vary depending on the scope (e.g., what kind of work are you doing?), the length of the project, and also whether the client is a longstanding account (e.g., if you do a ton of work for the Fed you might give them a discounted rate for their loyalty).

Hello Matt, thank you for sharing your perspective and experience. I have just gotten an invitation to interview for BCG later in March, and I am looking to coffee chat some consultants. I would appreciate any advice, and could provide my email if you have the time for an informal interview. Thank you.
Feel free to shoot me a note to my email in bio
