    Great Video of an honest mechanic. I found one over 35 years ago and sent him a lot of business through the years. My assessment - "Finding an honest mechanic is second only to finding a good wife!"

    Jim - I have the exact problem on my 2011 Nissan Quest. I have the engine noise only while driving. I thought it was a bearing issue since I did not have a check engine light at that time. I got the P0420 code yesterday. I'm going lift up the car and check for the leak. Thank you again for a great video that will save a lots of money to folks who have the same issue.

  • @jayjacqueline615
    @jayjacqueline615 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Jim! I wonder if my older 2001 Nissan Altima has the same problem. The "service engine soon" came on last October after I filled the gas tank. Nissan turned it off, believing it was a gas cap issue, but it popped back on again. There are no strange smell or noise, but also no exhaust from the tail pipe. It sticks a little on acceleration, drags uphill, and hiccuped once when I stopped at a traffic light. Just as I am about to park it so I don't blow the engine and I cannot afford to replace the cat, I see your video and remember that Nissan's been suggesting that there's a leak somewhere. I didn't think a leak was that important because there were no puddles underneath and the car seemed to run fine. Even though I'm late to the party, thank you for sharing this new perspective. I'll check it out.

    Put a Japanese import engine in my 06 Altima with 225 k on it. The original engine had worn valve guides. The import engine had a lot of soft carbon probably too many short trips. Getting too many misfire codes. Put two cans of Sea Foam in the gas tank. That fixed the misfire but fouled the converter. I removed the primary O2 senser and sprayed a whole can of Berryman carb cleaner in. That problem went away. I think the misfire problem was being fixed by driving it 50 miles a day on the freeway. I just got impatient.

    Great video. I own a 00 sentra 1.8L w/low miles & have been getting code po440 for a while which I just ignore after changing my gas cap & delete the code. Today I received po440 & po420. The po440 came up twice as it read 3 codes. The car drives ok w no rattles other than my rotors.
    Could this be a false read for something else or is my cat fried??

    My '05 350Z has a P400 code: Bank 1 Cat is bad. But, after watching your video, what i saw makes perfect sense. I noticed a nut on the flange of Bank 1 is loose. So, it would be fair to say, this could be my culprit, i hope. Now i know to go and tighten it and see if this works. Thank you sir for an informative video !
