Hi John Paul, please help me if you can. I use windows for PC. I followed the instructions, from the manual, listened to your video, as best as I could tell. On the Boss Tone Studio page the Connect, Import, Export will not light up! I have restarted, shut down, deleted and redownloaded. Could you tell me, what could be the problem? I have put all the items in my RC 500 without a problem, (I think...?)I just don't know why the Connect, Import, Export will not light up. Thanks for all you do. Gold Stringed Instruments

I really like your videos, and appreciate your comments to other people's posts! I just got my RC-500 yesterday. Maybe I'm not the only one who has had this problem. I recorded six songs into it, then, while reassigning my FS-5U footswitch to RHYTHM P/S , it lost ALL of my recorded material! No warnings at all! Interestingly, in all 6 songs it retained my other memory settings like count-in, drum kit, drum pattern, tempo, & multi v. single play mode. Have you seen this before? I've had other Boss loopers and have been pleased with how stable their memories are. I'm on ver 1.02, build 0040. I didn't unplug the footswitch or turn off power while the unit was writing data, or even while I was doing the entire process. I guess I need a frequent backup procedure. If nothing else, would you mind sharing your backup strategy & frequency? Being a noob to the RC-500, is there any chance that I didn't lose this data, but I just can't find it?

When you said you recorded six songs, your talking about 6 different memories with loops on each?
Surely did you save them as when you move from one loop memory to another, it erases unless you write it.

Thanks again, my RC-500 and all the extras are on the way! My second attempt at a looper, I got the infinity to try to work with beatbuddy, and I just felt it wasn't user friendly.

Congrats for all content. One question: if some Memory slot has, for example, 04 layers (3 overdubs). They all go as separately WAV files when exporting for your computer? Thanks!

Regarding your question, no it’s exported as one single file no matter how many or how little overdubs or layers you do.
Nice video! What's the best way to loop a midi/usb keyboard (without a 1/4" out jack)?
To loop a midi/usb keyboard, it would have to be attached to a sound device to generate sounds.
The MIDI on the Rc-500 is to control it. Turn on/off settings and controls.

Thanks for the Demo. Really like your content. Got an RC500 yesterday, did the latest update (V1.1 RC500+ 1.3 ToneStudio) and downloading it and playback works like shown. Only issue it only works well when the RC is disconnected when Tempo set to 143/4. That the playback is like on the computer, any other tempo setting is makes the thing distorted.
Hence my question is this normal/as designed or do I do something wrong here. I tested other tempos before the download same thing. if the wav says 108bpm, I only get that if the internal tempo is 144. Which is if I want share clock with other midi devices an issue.

I resolved it by dragging audio into Logic Pro and then exporting (via the bounce function)....this then puts it in a format that the RC500 accepts. ...Next task is to export "real" drum loops from Logic and get them to loop properly in the RC500......Struggling at mo.....does not create a seamless loop.....I will keep investigating....thanks again

If you download a backing track from tone central, can you change the tempo or is it fixed to the tempo as it was downloaded?
You could change the tempo, yes. Import it and then change the tempo on the looper and then save (write) that to the memory. You could also download that file and put it into a DAW that had time stretching capabilities, export it and then send it back to the looper as a wav. 😊
hey mate 🙌 my rc 500 starts to distort when i get it to a certain sound volume when busking through my acus amp
someone suggested i get a compression pedal... would this be the way forward you think ??
Yeah.. if your putting lots through it.. that’s a good idea. But if it’s cause of many loops have a look at the loop feedback. Imagine looping 100% volume.. then adding 100% volume and more and more.. it can get pretty nasty real quick. Turning down the loop feedback reduces the next loop by a couple of percentage. Or just watch the dynamic range.

Hey John, I have a problem, I thought you might be able to help me, when I move between memories in real time, when I play live, it turns only one track on, when I'm playing it from "stop" to "play" both tracks are playing..

I don’t know if you can but you should be able to get hold of an older version of Tone Studio - maybe reach out to Boss Support

Another useful video thanks! With my old RC3 I could add mp3 backing tracks but that doesn't seem to be the case with the RC500. I have tried exporting them as WAV files from iTunes and copying them over to the looper but when I try to play them I get an 'Unsupported File' message on the looper screen. Any ideas appreciated and thanks again.

So as I understood it the original way to send backing tracks was to make sure they were in the right format. Originally BOSS RC Loop Stations can only import 44.1 kHz 16-bit WAV files. But i don’t know if that’s changed cause if the 32-bit and you import them with Tone Studio RC as you would in the video.. just your own file.
Are your backing tracks in 44.1 at 16-bit?
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Hi John Paul, Really not sure what they are output as. I've just checked the iTunes WAV import settings and they are just set to default - although no indication of what the settings are!
It looks like there are options to set:
Sample Rate: 8kHz up to 48kHz
Sample Size: 8bit or 16bit
Channels: Mono or Stereo
Any ideas what might be the best options for these three settings? I'll try some experiments tomorrow.
Try 44.1 kHz and 16-bit 👍🏻

hello buddy! Great and very useful videos, I have a question, I have a fs7 for the rc500, B is assigned to all start all stop, I want to assign A for all Clear so i don't have to erase each track individually, is there an option to that?
Hello dude.
So yes and no. The no part is that there isn’t a way to do it just from one button.
However.. what you can use is an assign and clear both tracks at the same time.
I would use clear T1 as normal and then add an assign and use the source as the same pedal, then pict clear T2 so when you press it, it is doing one Ctrl and one assign at the same time.

Hello John, i want purchase an audio interface but,.... really need some info. Do I really need a audio interface to record to a my computer or DAW with thus Looper?. It seems like a audio interface and looper in 1.

Unfortunately the RC-500 doesn’t double up as an audio interface for recording but you could record your loops and then transfer them as it has 13hrs of 32bit recording functionality.
But sadly it can’t double up as an audio interface.

Make sure the format is correct.
It cannot take mp3. Must be WAV.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK The problem is I was trying to load stocks Boss, rhythms and backtracks from the program itselfrom the program itself,and built into bts-rc, give an error: download failed. ,I have not tried my own or third-party ones yet.

When importing WAV files via USB connection, time stretching may be applied to the output audio.
The stability of operation was improved.
I've got one of these. It has significant bugs. It jumps timing sometimes. Yesterday it froze and started sending a sine wave in the midrange real loud. It sometimes plays when receiving a program change number when it shouldn't. Its got a lot of capabilities but think they need another firmware update.
Wow! Really? I haven’t had any of those issues you are mentioning. Have you updated the firmware on it yet?
Maybe get onto Boss Support and send them a message about that. Sound weird.
Hey Michael, make sure you are running the latest firmware version which is currently 1.02. I would also recommend performing a factory reset. Make sure you back up any loops you have saved to memory prior to this though as they will be lost in the process ! I just got one last week and it keeps resetting on me and had frozen up a couple times also. I’ve been trying to figure out the issue before I return it. I’m powering it with a brand new strymon Zuma so I don’t think that’s the issue. I’m not sure if my signal is too loud going into it and if that could be the issue. I guess I’ll also see if an update will help.
Just try powering it with batteries for one day and see if it stays on. It could possibly be arguing with the strymon (hope not as I know they are not cheap)
But yeah, update the firmware and see what happens. 🤞

I can't seem to get a .wav to play on my device. I created a custom backing track in a DAW from one of my bands songs, so I can have drums and bass on the looper. But when copying it, the tone studio freezes and the program does not answer anymore. I tried putting it in directily via folder, but it says either "looper data too short" or that the file is incomatible. Any help? Installing Backing tracks, that are inside the software, work, but not the ones I created. This is very annoying, as I hoped to put in it a lot of our songs so I could practise to them directly withouth any computer. If anyone has a solution, please let me know!

So make sure that the wav is 16bit 44.1 - even though the rc500 is 32bit, it accepts 16bit wav in. 🤷
If you are putting the file in manually, you can do that but make sure you are only putting one .wav in each folder - so one .wav for loop 1 and one .wav for loop 2

It would be nice to see tone studio RC updated with a friendlier interface and that auto converts the audio (with a message) as well as being able to see the rhythm and settings for each memory.
Or even be able to make set lists that are swappable locally on the computer then just hit ‘go’ and they copy, in order to the loopstation. We can dream. 👍🏻

The BOOS TONE STUDIO is a real shit. Fails a lot and they´d better throw it away.
