- This was going to be a new an improved How-To for MBP Retina keyboards, but this laptop had already had a new KB once, so everything has been fiddled with. Assembly and chill it is, then!

An easier and possibly safer tool for removing the battery is to use a putty knife. they have a thinner profile than your tool and are able to slide under the battery covering. They are also wider so they can free about half of the battery at a time. I haven't damaged a battery using one of these yet.
Thank you very much for sharing Graham. Your advice about: battery glue [22:20 ‒ 22:40] and screws [25:15 ‒ 26:05] I will record them when saving the content. It's worth seeing again. Thanks again for your effort and especially for the time invested in making this type of videos. An affectionate and sincere greeting.
You should print out a tiny sticker and place it on the inside to mark/track the ones you work on.
I got contact spray used for car electronics ,it's stronger than alcohol and dissolved this glue so good batteries nearly fell out. not worth the risk forcing ,same in newer Samsung phones ,even can't see damage battery will loose bit of endurance
This show is so nostalgic. The music, man, never change it. As soon as i hear the intro it just takes me back to 2013, being in 5th grade, watching these macbook videos, then buying cheap 20$ macbook 1,1's and fixing them. The music you used to play when speeding up footage is something I need to download and listen to 24/7. Stay golden, ponyboy.
I love the fix-it shows they are good to watch and very informational thank you.
Another great very professional and excellently produced video, thank you
Nice work. I put the screws out in the same pattern they came from the board. Put the screws back into the fan when apart so I know what screw goes where.
oh wow 😃👌 an MBP keyboard refit. That's amazing 👏
Luckily there is no music in the background. We would miss the soothing squeaking of the barstool. 😁
The MacBook air has a much better designed battery. Just a few screws and its held in by a sort of frame. They assembled it this way because its cheap and I suppose it saved a tiny amount of space and weight but yeah. Not very good for servicing.
very good i liked that one nicely done followed it all to good job !!!!
Greatly helps to heat up the glue under the battery using a hair dryer before prying it.
I personally would have suggested a new KB connector, but it was a good repair. Nice job 👍.
37:05 could you use capacitive or pvc tape over the heat sink to direct the airflow?
Yay another video!
Great video.
I have seen the use of IPA to help loosen the battery adhesive. Not a cure all, but helps with loosening the batteries.
As always, supreme job, Graham.
BTW, I tried to watch some reruns of live streams from Adamant IT 2, but all the videos are gone ?!?
Were you striked or you just unlisted all live streams ?
Your videos are always too short, because I'm waiting on them for a hole week. :-)
See you on Saturday.
Byea.
Graham, well done.
Love your jacket!
Apple : You aren't messing with any of our stuff.
Adam : You sure ?
You should write “Graham was here + date” underneath the battery :-)
Great fix. Also remember on some models the touchpad cable runs under the battery, so easy to damage when trying to pry it out. IFix do a good kit with a special liquid to melt the glue to make removal easier, but it can melt plastics such as the speaker casing so have to use with care! Damn, I hate Apple
There are two rubber caps that should cover the hinges screws.
i like your hoodie.. it rings with truth
Isn't it better to set the whole thing on fire? 😂 I love to work on my laptops but they are typically clevo barebones where you can change almost everything quite easily, or at least compared to that one! Nice job!
"Always take the battery out first". Proceeds to take battery out third! lol
oooh you have the squeaky chair today
"We're winning" he says whilst one step away from using a crowbar (using 3 pry tools).
that thermal paste doesn't look like it could have even been doing too much either.LOL it looks nasty
He does not keep records of the customers and computers, laptops, etc. that he has repaired or built for them? Then he would know if he has working on a piece of equipment already and what he has done. With a listing of what was repaired, replaced along with the costs, etc.
What happened to the battery screwdriver?
I don't use it for Retina keyboards because you need a lot of control to pilot the screws in. I still use it every day for zapping out Phillips heads mostly.
Worth noting though, my forearm and hand was aching after doing this job, was a good reminder of how much strain relief the electric boi is.
i wonder why those cells have differences in size?
Love to repleace keyboards on mac's... /s.
That thermal paste seemed to even be a bit dried out too.
Hi adaman IT. What microscope are you using?
Def not Apple Paste , if You wanted that much it would be £200 extra lol Cheers Graham
I did a plastic riveted keyboard once, an Asus i think. Never more...
Maybe your repair record keeping needs improvement. Would have thought eg serial number search would show, eg 'oh yeah, I did repair that two years ago....'
How much is a fix like this
Creaky chair or creaky bones Graham? ;-)
Chair! I picked one of the crap ones and stubbornly refused to swap it out. Not seen in the video, about 10mins before I finish, I angrily get up and swap it for a non-creaking one. :P
And before anyone else says anything, no it's not the bolts, they just have crap gas struts.
like a Boss -- haha me too always
Quite a drama compared to a Dell or a Lenovo!
Any idea how/why this macbook is now seeing its third keyboard? That seems a bit much given its age, no? Needs a new keyboard every two years what?
Hard to tell. This keyboard might've just been a crap one... but also it's difficult to know how hard the customer is on the laptop. It might've had half a dozen water spills on it that are invisible once dried up. This is only the second or third time I've ever seen one of these MacBooks need a 3rd keyboard, and I've done _a lot_ of them.
Apple uses and "obnoxious amount of glue". They do that to deter repairs for one things. And can make your product "lighter" since they not using metal screws to hold items in place. Every little bit helps in Apple advertising/propaganda.
Mine is a mid 2015 retina 15 inch. Love him/her so much and am so worried that one day he/she will let me down. Such is life. By the way, your Instagram link above is broken.
if it does die eventually the new ones are really great alternatives for us 2015 users, only issue really with 2015s at this point is the battery life isnt great and the cpu is starting to show its age at least on the 13
Heck, cheers I'll look into it
@@Noaddedsalt01 Totally agree, these are the best computers to have around. I don't use the batteries as it's wired in where I sit, but I am keeping an eye on the new one's available. For the moment, I covert my MacBook pro, lol.
Removing the Battery this way may be DANGEROUS, especially when it is still charged. It may catch fire, don't do it like this - see th-cam.com/video/XbUF87gcluE/w-d-xo.html. If you would like to do it right, see th-cam.com/video/Lue6lVWhh4o/w-d-xo.html.
👍👍👍👍👍
Do a little bit WD 40 and see what happens ! 😇😇😁😁 After that clean it with isopropyl alcohol !
Regards,
What happend with the 2nd channel? All video's are gone............
Just unlisted, we're shuffling things around to get all the previous podcasts up in chronological order!
I tell my customers that if the keyboard is riveted , then they need to buy a top case with new battery. End of story.
You should take that to the Apple store to fix that, they charge 1500£ oh wait that's more than it's worth so you'll have to buy a new one then for 2300£ then it will be fixed!?!😒
You can solve the keypress issue by just removing the key and then heating the pad below it slightly with a hotgun or dryer and it will work as new. I already done the repaire by using this methods and it works like a charm all the time.
That doesn’t sound like a fix to me bodge springs to mind
Yea I can see that working for a short time, but fixes like that tend to come back a few weeks later. Or the customer's gone somewhere else because your fix failed.
It may work sometimes, but my policy is that a replacement is always long-term fix, instead of maybe a long-term fix.
Sounds too much like something out of Tech Yes City to me!
I don't recommend you to use the mx-5, It's hard as f*ck to apply because her viscosity like water. For the 3° on difference may worth it on a personal computer, but in working time... nope
Ah interesting... Noted! I'll refrain from ordering a bunch of it and just get like, one tube to test with first. Old or not, MX-4 is a consistent paste that's never let me down.
I find its ok going on but its a pain to remove. It drips everywhere and gets on everything
No do not clean it. make a third layer of paste...
The battery needs to be glued down, otherwise it will shake and “click” with practically every bigger movement of the laptop.
"Stop making stupid people famous" let me know where have you read that guys😂
Graham's hoodie reflected in the Mac's screen
Toshiba SSD? Looks that it have been replaced from Apple one..?
And i dont know you want to encode videos and stuff with this computers.. always felt kinda slow to me. And temperature rises quickly and then thermal throttles.
Tosh made quite a few SSDs for Apple 👌
Video encoding, mainly if the user does anything in iMovie. Heck, the first like, 5 years of Adamant IT was edited in iMovie on various MacBook Pros.
Why someone ever wanted to buy such shitty piece of technic? 😅
