I remember opening packs of these when they first came out and everyone wanted Balduvian Horde and Helm of Obedience and Force of Will was an uncommon worth almost nothing. Good times.
I definitely remember everyone hyping big time over Balduvian Horde. That card ended up sucking so bad LOL. I always remember FoW being desirable though. I only got one in the only box I opened of this set. I definitely played it a lot back in the day and saw a lot of others playing it too.

When I started playing in 1996 Alliances was being sold at the store. I would play Balduvian horde and thawing glaciers. Eventually I played a pretty good statis deck. Ohhhh the force of wills! Such a great card! Awesome memories!
Yes, its awesome in a format where players mostly agree to not bring land destruction. But the Rudy in me says: Do not underestimate the print run. Someone owns 2% of the Alpha Raging River print run, that is just 20 to 22 cards. Someone else hoarded 2% of the collectors edition + international edition gauntlet of might, that is 240 cards, basically a full binder. To make a dent in lake of the dead, for a similar 2% stake, be prepared to buy thousands. What i like to do when i really like a card like that is to make a global set, with all language versions. For Alliances that is just 6: english french german italian spanish portuguese. I did that with the Urzas Saga card Time Spiral, where its 10 total, and simplified chinese, traditional chinese and korean are hard to get. Such a global set of consistently nice condition looks awesome in a binder, can be framed and put on the wall, making it easier to sell.
