After I beat AC2, I found out you can crouch by pressing R1 and X (on PS3) and holding still. It's not very helpful though, since if you go to move you end up free-running, and Ezio sticks his arms out like a goof.
Why do some reviewers always say "i noticed this and it kept reminding me that i was playing a video game"? You literally control the character with the controller in your hands. Thats like getting in your car for work and saying "i saw other cars on the road and it kept reminding me that i was driving".
I love-(d) about Assassin's Creed franchise that you really dive into the story. You play as if you are THE character. But some elements in the (mostly newer versions) games made me remind that I was playing a game not a role playing game.
Thats because you are playing it after the bugs and glitches have been patched! You can't even imagine what the game was like before they patched it lol It's actually pretty good without the bugs and glitches! Enjoy the game!
+peleg shasha ugh the game took me a week to beat because of the bugs and glitches like the as I call is eclipse glitch where the activation of a mission causing all and I mean all lighting effects and flares to disappear leaving you with a black screen and the sounds of you bumping into people and falling down
Most underrated Assassin's Creed game. I've played every single Assassin's Creed game and while this game is not the best, it's definitely not as bad as people say it is.

I played this yesterday for the first time. I went in with extremely low expectations and because of this I loved the game. it's been fixed and the park our is really fun. and this one has actual stealth
There are a few bugs here and there but it works how it should on console. Wouldn't dare to get it on pc if ubisoft haven't bothered to fix that and I do heroin not crack
Am I the only one who's playing this game and really loving it? I mean sure, performance wise this game runs terrible on PS4, the framedrops are fucking annoying. But in my eyes the game is so fun I don't even notice the framedrops anymore most of the time. I love Paris as a setting, the customization is an awesome new addition to the series too and the missions are just a ton of fun. Story wise it's not the best Assassin's Creed, I admit. But c'mon guys, don't hate on this. If you loved the previous AC titles, you will also love this one! Go out, buy it and enjoy it!

You're not alone. I love it. I am on PS4 and haven't seen any of the issues that have been reported. The most I have seen is the details to distant NPCs popping in when I am running through the city, which is not game-breaking. The story is interesting to me so far, but I still have a ways to go so I am holding off on making an opinion there. The only AC I didn't care for was 3, and Revelations was kind of mediocre. I always say it like this, Assassin's Creed is just one of those games you either love or hate; I have met very few in the middle.

I have undeniably however disliked the previous CoD's since MW2, with an exception for BO2. I should also remind you that "renowned" critics are usually paid by publishers to review their game. I have every reason to remain skeptical towards IGN and their wonky reviews. I quite enjoyed the Single-Player of Advanced Warfare, but It had quite a bit of disinteresting flaws and setbacks. The Multi-player has seen NO *improvement*. Sure, they've *added* alot of stuff to mix up the formula quite a bit which I think is good, but I got bored of the multi-player after *2 fucking hours* because it had no fucking depth. It's incredibly monotonous and lacks diversity, which is something I consider highly important. It by all means does *NOT* deserve a 9.1. That is my fair opinion. If I were to rate AW, I'd give it an 7 to 8, roughly. This game is very over-glorified. There is nothing 9.1 'worthish' to be seen here. Absolutely not.
Those ratings don't mean that one game is better than the other....just so you know. It only points out how complete the game is, which in this case, the CoD series can easily achieve a 9 or more since they're been working on the same game for the last 6 years.
See the thing about Advanced Warfare is that unlike Unity the game is fun. I'm 45 minutes into Unity at the moment and it's so incredibly boring. Lesson to Ubisoft, If I'm not in the assassin uniform within 30 minutes of the game, then you have failed.
Ezio Auditore I agree wholeheartedly. I love how the ability to use different classes of weapons (one-handed, long, etc.) is a thing again. You wouldn't believe how tired I got of Edward's same old dual swords finishers. Being able to use several types of weapons to change up gameplay makes the game way less monotonous.
I think the game deserves something between 7.5-8.0 at most. This game is underrated but I personally don't think it is anywhere near as entertaining and gripping as Brotherhood. Unity was fun, but I frankly didn't get attatched to it enough to love it.
I see your point, but it's not just the story that gave it thay rating, in my opinion, it was the dull, if not boring, characters. That's why I gave it the rating I did. If you respond, I hope this doesn't turn into one of those youtube arguments. Been in too many of those :/
Arno wasn't a bad character, he was actually pretty good, but it's the lack of interesting and genuine-feeling characters that made it feel kind of dull to me.
The Creed history died with Ezio and Altair, Ubisoft is more preoccupied with profit and anual releases them the actual history and it's fans. It feels horrible to be investing in a game from it's very begining only to see it turn into another franchise that releases a new chapter every year without the proper time investiment. AC could be grand again, if they stoped at the end of the Ezio history and focused on another fun and interesting caracter. Connor, Edward and now Arno, how many more will they create only to replace on the next IP ?
Dude, Every single year a different ubisfot studio creates the game, so in reality, they take three to four years making a masterpiece. They did plenty of research and invested plenty of time in this game.
Brotherhood and Revelations were the weakest games on the series. The Ezio trilogy isn't nearly as great as some depict it. And don't get me started on the repetitive piece of crap that was AC1.
You're right, and wrong. In general Ubisoft cannot make games that are mechanically, and visually appealing all at the same time. Almost all of their games are bunk, Far Cry 3 was there only all around perfect game. Accept reliability wasn't there for that either. Watch Dogs was waaaayyyy too over hyped. Looked amazing too. But in the end the game could never live up to all of its hype.

Apparently a 7.8 isn't good enough? Is it not good enough because the game deserves better or because CoD:AW got a higher score? I have never felt that the review scores are meant to be compared against different genres, i.e. a FPS and an action game such as this. To me a score is a representation of how good that game is amongst its competition. While every game is in competition for sales, they aren't in terms of type of gameplay. A 7.8 means it's a good game. It's almost like instead of actually giving their opinions the IGN editors should just poll what score people thinks it deserves and use that as the rating to please everyone.

The score should be compared to other games of the same genre, and an 7.8/10 is the same as 78/100, 780/1000. It is a really good score, and it even says GOOD. I think people should stop worrying about scores and read what the reviewer has to say about the game.
They can't really do that especially since their scores are part of metacritic etc. Many Ign employees have said they rather do a review without a score but they can't since people expect/ask for it. I agree with everything you said though, you can't compare COD with AC and a 7.8 is well worth the purchase.
In my opinion the whole slapping a number on the freaking thing only generates more problems because too many people get hung up on the scores. Watch the damn review, THINK, and based on what is said in the review YOU decide if the game is worth YOUR time. People can't understand that reviewers are people with their own set of likes and dislikes.
i dont know but after i have installed all the 4 patches and nvidia's latest drivers,everything seemed to have worked just fine for me.I haven't experienced any bugs or glitches after that.I gotta say though the framerate still sucks balls!!
Al Adeeb It's never a good idea to review a game based on what "might" get fixed. It's also hard to go back and redo a review after they finally do get those fixes, assuming they ever get those fixes.
-Shitty optimisation -Many bugs -Coop is completly worthless -No competitive multiplayer -Same "My family died so I have to revenge them" story -every good éléments from AC4 like the boat, the pirate theme, the original story are gone. It is the weakest in the series... If you are loocking for a good AC you sould go check out AC2 and 4
***** Meh. I didn't buy AC to play a pirate simulator with light stealth elements and super dumbed down stealth mechanics (hide in a bush, stick your head out to attract enemy, kill enemy). I like BF even less than Unity and it rests at the bottom of my AC list. It doesn't have the soul of AC and the setting is nothing to write home about.
I don't know what IGN is even talking about. Arno is a badass and 10 times more lovable than Connor ever was. And the story with the animus is actually sort of interesting. I also wasn't getting lost when the story was progressing. IGN - "Don't get this, get COD because we say so and they paid us off"
im also liking the story more too... it has intrigue, romance, betrayal, and this is only at sequence 6 ive to go farther, took a break to do side sequences. but i have a feeling tragedy is just around the corner... not to mention it was at the beginning too when arnos father died. i think people just hate on the game cuz of all the fps issues and because they cant manage to sit long enough to get into a deep immersive story... instead they would rather shoot everything that moves and not care about why they are doing it instead they just want to rush thru a game to gain trophies and instant gratification... kids these days dont know how to play good games and their attention span cant muster having to sit and pay attention for more then 30 minutes
the game story sucks, yes compared to connor it is much better but compared to the earlier games it sucks ass. many glitches and bugs that i have experienced first hand, have taken screen shots 50+ on each different missions...............so it yes many new things, but overall its a 6/10
The frame rate problems in this game are atrocious, PC gamers are struggling to get 60 frames on high end rigs, console gamers aren't even getting the locked 30 that was promised more like 25-20 frames. Ubisoft has officially made the most cinematic gaming experience good god I haven't seen anything this cinematic since the Dark Knight.
And IGN being constituted of mostly blind people, *absolutely no word on technical difficulties* that are plaguing consoles and PC alike, terrible optimization, low render distance, and random pop in. JUST LOOK AT IT 1:02 HE DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING. Just because they weren't assed enough to do their job so they came up with a revolting "30fps is love, 30fps is life". You only need to compare them to the early ACs, no problems, nowhere. Now you can feel how cash has driven them over the edge. I Really hope whoever is responsible for this goes down, and fast.
I honestly enjoy this game a lot. I beat it nearly a year ago and I still come back to it just because I enjoyed it that much. It's not as bad as people say. Sure there are bugs but I've personally never experienced them on the Xbox. The customization is pretty awesome and the free running was damn right on point as long as you knew your way around. The stealth wasn't as great as previous games, but you can always get better at using it. Story didn't really interest me that much but I did like some aspects of it. And I also love playing co-op with my friends. I would totally recommend this game.
I disagree with this review. This game is something new, and is by far the best AC to date. First of all, it reminds me so much of Assassin's Creed 2. The main character, Arno, is a character you'd remember. THe other characters in the games are great characters too. The customization of this game is amazing, and expands on what the series used to have. The story is not as good as Ezio's story, but it is definitely the second best story. The reviewer complained that the assassinations are the same, but you can assassinate with all the new weapons including the new phantom blade. The climbing has definitely been improved over past AC games. This reviewer complained about some of the controls being the same, but I say don't fix whats not broken. The combat has been redefined, and added new animations. While the stealth isn't perfect, they did improve over previous stealth in older AC games. I would say this game deserves a 9.5/10. Call of Duty this year is good, but not as good as this game :)
***** Not really. The game has 5,000 NPC's on screen at once. Also, The game drops to 25 fps on Xbox One and 19 fps on PS4. If the game was optimized poorly, or amateur work, then the framerate issues will eventually be solved with a patch. Guess we will see.

You can't have a game with 5000 npc's at a time, huge map size, and amazing graphics and expect it to run glitch free immediately. Not even last-gen games could do that.

I actually like this game, only thing that bothered me was arno's running animation. Ac 1 through revelations had the same running animation Conner's was godly and Edward's was okay but this one just looks so weird. Like he has 30 lb Dumbbells on his feet, it looks like Edward running through shallow water.

The best thing about this game series is that no matter how bad one is, the next may be better, or worse. 1 was good, 2 was amazing, Brotherhood was a rehash of 2 that in my opinion is the worst in series, revelations was good, 3 was...eh, 4 is amazing, and this...I have yet to play. So no matter what, it might just get better. Or worse. Until next year!
Ac 4 was literally the worst, the story with the protagonist was good, but outside of the animus nothing happened, story did not continue at all. Everything else was terrible except maybe the sailing. Ac unity looks no better than ac 4 but since I haven't played It yet I won't say much other than that Ubisoft is officially on my shit list. EA and Ubisoft are practically brother companies.

SDSK Review: I love AC and I must say this is the weakest link. With that said... -The Story is interesting. -A nice variety especially with the portal hunting missions which add a nice mix to things. -Combat is fun and for the most part feels smooth. -The reason why it is weak is because it random and annoying bugs can get to you. -Frame drops and voices being a bit off form people talking. So if you like AC and already played Syndicate....this game is worth checking out. And who know maybe you will be lucky to not encounter bugs. :) Thank you for reading.
Sadly I encountered one when Arno wouldn't attack the guy even though I was mashing the attack button, and aside from that I haven't encountered anything game breaking. I think this game went back to its roots without any real gimmicks in the game and not have it be complicated in story like revelations, III and IV. It was just Assassins versus Templars with some twists and didn't do anything from that until sequence 6 and so on. The modern story wasn't as good as people hoped and probably made like that on purpose so that people won't feel as though the pacing is off. It's a good game for sure, and that it was just trying to do of what made assassins creed assassins creed and improve on it without gimmicks that have been around since ac brotherhood or revelations. I like this game better than most of what people say, even after launch.

+SDSK Liberation was my least favorite Assassin's Creed. It was SO boring to me. Nobody (including the setting) in Liberation was interesting. Though you were probably only referring to the MAIN games.
I believe the problem here and the negativity are based on game polish.. I mean, they give AW a 9.1 because, yes even though it may be slightly similar to the previous ones, it is polished as every other COD out there (they spend most of their time fixing bugs rather than innovating) and has zero problems and glitches. Assassin's Creed on the other hand, while they try to present new characters, story and setting every year, has always kept its bugs, glitches, control problems and general annoyances. It seems like reviewers prefer a polished and medium quality game, than a good quality/refreshing one but non-polished and with problems.

edwards my number one, simply because of how different he is to the other main protagonists. honestly the whole of black flag is tied down by assassins creed tropes that for some reason ubisoft doesnt drag out and shot. if i could, kill off the ac series and take all of the pirating of black flag with the freerunning it had too to make a more... action-oriented pirate sandbox as its own ip.
Ezio was the most likeable of all the characters. And the guy from AC3 was the worst, Connor. Such a bland and boring character. Didnt even bother to play past a few hours.
Yeah, this isn't the review to go by. I've had the game since midnight, which was 14 hours ago. AC Unity is absolutely superb. But don't just take MY word for it. The TH-camrs I've watched playthrough the game these past few days can't stop raving about it. Not to mention TheGamesCabin's review from last week. That particular reviewer went in depth much better than this guy at IGN. I can tell you first hand that his description and analysis the game is more accurate than IGN's.

ibravosp5 i give it a 9 cause the story isnt that good but not bad neigther ( its enjoyble ) and some minor problems like how you move trough the croud that sometimes its like you walk to an invisble wal but thats someting you wont notice alot, but after al this game is amazing love it definitly contender fot game f the year
I've watched many reviews, and they've gave it a 8.5 or a 9 and I agree with them. I can't believe that IGN gave it such a low score. From what I've seen it looks like of of the best assassins creed yet. And the worst AC games (3 and 4) get a higher score. This is a really bad review.
I would absolutely give the game an 8.8-9/10. It is without a doubt the BEST AC since AC II, and even better than Black Flag, which was my second favorite until about 16 hours ago lol
One of my top ten games of all time is Assassins creed 2, I played brotherhood which was good and 3 which I didn't really care for, Blackflag which was ok. Not sure if I should get this or not, no other assassins creed seems to have matched that of 2 yet for some reason. The environment looks amazing but by the sound of it that's all that's truly great about this game

The only downside to this game, to me at least, is that there are a lot ... a lot, of bugs and glitches. None that make the story unplayable, but many that sometimes ruin the immersion of the gamer's experience. I'm sure future updates will eventually eliminate the abundance of those glitches, however for now, I still suggest you get this game, as it reminds me of Assassin's Creed 2 a lot! You will love it in that sense :) Enjoy NLE

Unity is every disappointing and it have the weakest story and protagonist in the franchise and the modern day story was really shitty and it's really the worst AC game ever.
No cross AC4 was good and emotionally at the same time and it have a lot of first civilization shit going on and also the modern days mission was good as story too but as gameplay it sucks and the only good thing in unity is the new parkour mechanics and combat wasn't that good either but visuals was great though.

I really liked this game i'd give it a 9.2/10 the only real problem I see with it is occasionally finicky controls, some glitches, occasional cliched dialogue, and DEAR GOD THE LOADING SCREENS ARE A FUCKING NIGHTMARE! xD like I understand the game is huge and I really admire that, but after seeing Black Flags amazingly short loading times, the length of these loading screens give me chills. But still a great game, Arno is not a one dimensional character, his quest starts off as revenge but becomes about redemption, and the ending was satisfying, just maybe could have been more satisfying. Also I never found the british accents distracting, besides there's the option to have the characters speak french with english subtitles :)
now that is a good comment. i dont understand the part of the critic of english voices either. ezio talked english, ok with italian accent , but if you want full imersion do make them speak french like you said.
GILDANTE had nothing to do with the actual language they were speaking just the fact that they all spoke in british accents....every other game had english speaking people but at least had the proper accents
And for god sake, the game was not advertised to be revolutionary, just because it's set in a time period where a revolution took place, doesn't mean that the game is being advertised as a revolutionary experience. The developers literally said that they wanted to go back to basics and have the game be a fresh new start for the franchise on Next Gen consoles.
arrdum they hired french speaking Canadians to do the voice. Also they explained why they speak English and have the accent. It has to do with what they thought sounded the most appropriate when creating a period piece it also has to do with the idea the conversation is being translated/interpreted.

I personally love the characters and the plot,however I do agree on the fact that though they've improved in the majority of areas,the controls are at times inaccurate and the vast multitude if crowds can become incredibly tedious and annoying. I'd give it a solid 8.5

The pirate theme has always been the best theme. You can like the city exploration and all but syndicate, origins, revelations, brotherhood, AC 1 and AC 2 have city exploration. You should try those games out before commenting on stuff such as the setting of unity
I have to say, after they fixed the bugs, Unity became a stellar entry into the Assassins Creed franchise. The combat was awesome, and being able to change how your assassin looked piece by piece was great. The open World Multiplayer is what I would really like to see return.
What a rubbish review. You say the story is underwhelming, and I would've agreed with you a few days ago. But I reached sequence six today. And without giving anything away, I was so immersed in the plot I could not put the control down, even though I have to be up at 6:30 tomorrow. I literally ran across Paris to get to the next checkpoint. I haven't felt that in a videogame in a very long time. It was like being 13 again. Assassins Creed Unity revolutionized the series. The combat and parkour is complete and totally overhauled, and it's noticeable in the controls. Granted, they're a bit funky at times. But what makes this game so amazing is Paris. It is quite possibly one of the most beautiful game worlds I've ever seen. Just the mere 1:1 scale of the city is breath taking, the massive interiors. Especially in the mansions, the Bastille and Notre Dame. The crowds, the individuality of the buildings and streets. The underground. It really is an amazing city. One of a kind. Just looking down a street or standing on a roof top is fun for me. If you think COD: AW "innovates" and Assassins Creed: Unity doesn't, then someone is putting something in your morning coffee. Not to mention the diverse upgrade system. In your Shadow of Mordor review. A mediocre game which you got paid to give a very, very undeserving score of 9; all you talked about in that video was the upgrade system. But in the AC: Unity review, it is hardly given the light of day. When AC: Unity has the most customization of any AC game yet. Not only weapons, colours, armour, etc. but also skills. Little things like double assassination, poison, less falling damage, etc. Little things like that add a whole new layer to the game itself outside of the main story mode, as oppose to just having them at the start. It is a big leap from a developers standpoint too. The game breaths new life into the series. And while I liked Assassins Creed 4, it wasn't assassins creed. It was a pirate game. Unity is an AC game in every respect. Of the caliber me and other AC fans have been waiting for since Assassins Creed 1. I have not played Coop so I won't factor it into my opinion yet, but the idea and introduction of it is a big step in the right direction. The only negative about this game, the only one. Is the frame rate, which in all reality will be fixed with updates. It doesn't even have that many bugs (I've encountered only 2), and not nearly as many as haters like to pretend. According to IGN, Red Dead Redemption had bugs (it didn't) but they gave it a 9.7 anyway. That just shows the inconsistency of IGN reviews. A fair, unbiased score for this game is 9/10, easily. I just feel like an idiot complaining about the bugs when I have this beautiful city to explore. I think it is simply trendy to hate ubisoft. And the hate is just rubbing off on people, including me. But once you actually have a since of independence, play this game and not care what people think, you realize that it really is one of the best titles of the year. And when that idiot in the other video said "Assassins Creed Unity is the worst AC game yet" I laughed. Because that is just so absurd. People are so hung up on pixels, when they don't even realize that lighting, optimization, design, modeling, physics, etc. play a huge role in graphics as well. You can disagree. But this game is worthy of at least an 8. It is, at the moment, my 3rd favourite game of all time. Behind Red Dead Redemption and Halo: Reach, and in front of The Last of Us.
Ehh I have to disagree with the story part. I'm absolutely loving this story I think Arno is a fantastic assassin as opposed to boring conor and and ok kenway. My favorite assassin still and always will be ezio but Arno takes some of that finesse and charm. This is my favorite assassins creed I've played so far on par with AC2 and brotherhood. Good job ubisoft on this one. However this is just my opinion.
I agree with you D Haze! I played a lil bit of this game and I absolutely loved what I've played so far and looking forward to the rest of the story. I do think ubisoft did a good job with this game!
I wouldn't call it amazing, but it is a enjoyable experience. It brings some new ideas to the table that will no doubt be improved in the next game. 2nd will always rule though ;)... AC in China or Japan MAKE IT HAPPEN UBISOFT

You obviously didn’t play it at launch. This game was a yearly release. For months it was unplayable. You can’t release a yearly release broken, fix it months before the next release, and expect the general public to play it at its peak state. Ubisoft was bullied by gamers to fix this game. Although this didn’t change the general opinion, AC fans at least got a decent game.

Well there were three games that took place in Italy, but they didn't speak Italian the whole time. If anything, characters in Unity should speak English with a French accent, with some occasional French slipped in (like in previous games).
In Britain, where I live, we have a lot of dramas set in France. When we watch them, they are all spoken in a strong british accent. This is just how things are, and I guess it is probably different in the US
Buyed this one today (2021) for 9 bucks on my Xbox Series X. One of the greatest setting in AC history & after they patch this game it's f*cking awesome. Will play this now till the legendary edition of mass effect will launch in may....

I loved Black Flag and Rogue because they both felt like some sort of old-timey naval Far Cry. This appears to be a massive step back in terms of freedom, varied locations, exploration and side-missions. Don't see the appeal if I'm honest.

Demoknight 69 if you look past the glitches that aren't as bad as people say, this is a great ac game, it isn't extremely easy, or punishing. and the the combat takes skill, not reaction time. plus the customization was amazing to say the least. Arno was a good character, in my opinion, and so was Elise. the only story related problem I could bring up off the top of my head is the lack of actual cool/ meaningful characters on either side, wether it be the Templars or assassins. only one I remember is Bellec.

Gamers out there; do not listen to this trash review. This game was REALLY good. It brought back many features that we loved from older Assassin's Creeds. As well as bringing back the main conflict of Assassins Vs. Templars (the whole idea of the first game) we got to see wonderful Character development and conflict. Overall, here's what you get when you buy this game. Pros -Beautiful City construction -Amazing Graphical display -Fun and smooth parkour (Most of the time) -lengthy story that is worth playing. -Combat that brings back a challenge. While I wish I could brag about this game forever, there are a few Down sides. Cons -Sometimes game lags and freezes -sometimes iffy parkour -money is hard to spend unless you do Co-op. Overall, I think IGN is full of Crap, because as a true fan of the franchise, I can easily say this game deserves an 8, if not 9.

I absolutely hate this game - to be honest I think that 7.8 is too high. I found pretty much everything to be dodgy - tbh the only thing I enjoyed was the multiplayer but even that had issues - your friends can join your game and there is no loading screens, so when they leave why are you teleported away and sent through 2 loading screens!!!!

I just finished the main story line, and will say this review hits the nail on the head. The AC Unity world is remarkable, and has incredibly realistic physics. I found myself walking through the streets admiring the scenery, buildings, and crowds. But, the issues with character control were utterly frustrating. More than once did I have to stop myself from throwing my controller across the room in anger. Additionally, I was left wanting more out of Arno's story. Unity has extreme highs and extreme lows. I hope Ubisoft can resolve these issues before their next installment in the AC franchise.
I surprisingly liked Unity more than Rogue, in my opinion. The customization, the multiplayer, the music, the graphics, and the gameplay (minus the stealth sections) helped me ignore the issues in the story, Arno's character, and the occasional glitches.
Top AC Games 1. AC2- Overall best game. Amazing story, fun gameplay, great characters, and an environment to get lost in. 2. AC4- Very good AC game. The gameplay was my personal favorite and felt super smooth. The environment and free roam were amazing and made you actually feel like a pirate. The story was good but in my opion could pf been better. 3. AC- Good assassins creed game which layed the basics for a badass series. Amazing cahracters (Altair being my personal favorite in the AC series) and good and fun gameplay. the only downside was the story which seemed very repetive of just finding info and assassinating a templar target. The actual story telling was amazing though. 4. AC3- Good game to branch farther into a huge open world and thriving environment. Personally i liked the story and enjoyed every mission, but Connor being the main antaginast seemed like a pretty bland character. (Not to mention the extremely slow start.) But the new weapons were amazing and fun to use and the sea battles laid foundation for amazing battles to come. 5. AC Brotherhood- Ok assassins creed with mediocre story, fun combat, and a cool addition of the brotherhood system. To me the story really lacked and thats why its low on the list. 6. AC Revelations- worst assassins creed. the story seemed extremely boring and left ezios life with many un answered questions. the gameplay didnt involve anything new and the characters just felt recycled. These are my opinions and i respect if yours are completey different. Anyway Thanks for reading :)

All of those are FPS games. You can't really compare AC to CoD or Halo. Yeah they got 9 or above but that's because they are great FPS games. AC got a 7.8 because it is a better than decent, but not great, action/adventure game, in their opinion. Now I could see if you were mad while comparing this to what they gave Shadow of Mordor or maybe a Batman game but getting mad that CoD got higher than AC is just ignorant. Honestly, when are you ever playing AC and saying, "This game is dumb because there aren't any SMGs like in Call of Duty!" And when have you ever played CoD and said, "I can't believe IGN gave this a 9.3! There's no parkour, side missions, or RPG elements like in Assassin's Creed!" Exactly. Never. Marry Sliva had been reviewing a couple game too high this year, but honestly he did a great job in explaining why this game is good yet not amazing. Fantastic game. I played it 6-12 months after release when I knew it was "fixed" and I had a great experience. The game is great but got shunned by it's technical issues and was never given a fair chance by most people who gave up a hour in because it gliched out.

I love this game and it's story. The setting is beautiful and I love how the streets are filled with people revolting against the monarchy. Also makes it a lot easier to blend and hide from enemies.

After I beat AC2, I found out you can crouch by pressing R1 and X (on PS3) and holding still. It's not very helpful though, since if you go to move you end up free-running, and Ezio sticks his arms out like a goof.
AC2's "crouching" is useless. The only games where you can really crouch are Unity and Syndicate.
Why do some reviewers always say "i noticed this and it kept reminding me that i was playing a video game"? You literally control the character with the controller in your hands. Thats like getting in your car for work and saying "i saw other cars on the road and it kept reminding me that i was driving".

Am I the only one who's playing this game and really loving it? I mean sure, performance wise this game runs terrible on PS4, the framedrops are fucking annoying. But in my eyes the game is so fun I don't even notice the framedrops anymore most of the time. I love Paris as a setting, the customization is an awesome new addition to the series too and the missions are just a ton of fun. Story wise it's not the best Assassin's Creed, I admit. But c'mon guys, don't hate on this. If you loved the previous AC titles, you will also love this one! Go out, buy it and enjoy it!

You're not alone. I love it. I am on PS4 and haven't seen any of the issues that have been reported. The most I have seen is the details to distant NPCs popping in when I am running through the city, which is not game-breaking. The story is interesting to me so far, but I still have a ways to go so I am holding off on making an opinion there. The only AC I didn't care for was 3, and Revelations was kind of mediocre. I always say it like this, Assassin's Creed is just one of those games you either love or hate; I have met very few in the middle.

Sure, they've *added* alot of stuff to mix up the formula quite a bit which I think is good, but I got bored of the multi-player after *2 fucking hours* because it had no fucking depth.
It's incredibly monotonous and lacks diversity, which is something I consider highly important.

Ezio Auditore I agree wholeheartedly. I love how the ability to use different classes of weapons (one-handed, long, etc.) is a thing again. You wouldn't believe how tired I got of Edward's same old dual swords finishers. Being able to use several types of weapons to change up gameplay makes the game way less monotonous.
I think the game deserves something between 7.5-8.0 at most. This game is underrated but I personally don't think it is anywhere near as entertaining and gripping as Brotherhood. Unity was fun, but I frankly didn't get attatched to it enough to love it.

Arno wasn't a bad character, he was actually pretty good, but it's the lack of interesting and genuine-feeling characters that made it feel kind of dull to me.
Let's just hope Syndicate has a good main character, along with good supporting characters.

The Creed history died with Ezio and Altair, Ubisoft is more preoccupied with profit and anual releases them the actual history and it's fans. It feels horrible to be investing in a game from it's very begining only to see it turn into another franchise that releases a new chapter every year without the proper time investiment. AC could be grand again, if they stoped at the end of the Ezio history and focused on another fun and interesting caracter. Connor, Edward and now Arno, how many more will they create only to replace on the next IP ?

Dude, Every single year a different ubisfot studio creates the game, so in reality, they take three to four years making a masterpiece. They did plenty of research and invested plenty of time in this game.
Brotherhood and Revelations were the weakest games on the series. The Ezio trilogy isn't nearly as great as some depict it. And don't get me started on the repetitive piece of crap that was AC1.
You're right, and wrong. In general Ubisoft cannot make games that are mechanically, and visually appealing all at the same time. Almost all of their games are bunk, Far Cry 3 was there only all around perfect game. Accept reliability wasn't there for that either. Watch Dogs was waaaayyyy too over hyped. Looked amazing too. But in the end the game could never live up to all of its hype.

Apparently a 7.8 isn't good enough? Is it not good enough because the game deserves better or because CoD:AW got a higher score? I have never felt that the review scores are meant to be compared against different genres, i.e. a FPS and an action game such as this. To me a score is a representation of how good that game is amongst its competition. While every game is in competition for sales, they aren't in terms of type of gameplay. A 7.8 means it's a good game. It's almost like instead of actually giving their opinions the IGN editors should just poll what score people thinks it deserves and use that as the rating to please everyone.

The score should be compared to other games of the same genre, and an 7.8/10 is the same as 78/100, 780/1000. It is a really good score, and it even says GOOD.
I think people should stop worrying about scores and read what the reviewer has to say about the game.
They can't really do that especially since their scores are part of metacritic etc. Many Ign employees have said they rather do a review without a score but they can't since people expect/ask for it. I agree with everything you said though, you can't compare COD with AC and a 7.8 is well worth the purchase.
In my opinion the whole slapping a number on the freaking thing only generates more problems because too many people get hung up on the scores. Watch the damn review, THINK, and based on what is said in the review YOU decide if the game is worth YOUR time. People can't understand that reviewers are people with their own set of likes and dislikes.

It's never a good idea to review a game based on what "might" get fixed. It's also hard to go back and redo a review after they finally do get those fixes, assuming they ever get those fixes.

I don't know what IGN is even talking about. Arno is a badass and 10 times more lovable than Connor ever was. And the story with the animus is actually sort of interesting. I also wasn't getting lost when the story was progressing. IGN - "Don't get this, get COD because we say so and they paid us off"
im also liking the story more too... it has intrigue, romance, betrayal, and this is only at sequence 6 ive to go farther, took a break to do side sequences. but i have a feeling tragedy is just around the corner... not to mention it was at the beginning too when arnos father died.
i think people just hate on the game cuz of all the fps issues and because they cant manage to sit long enough to get into a deep immersive story... instead they would rather shoot everything that moves and not care about why they are doing it instead they just want to rush thru a game to gain trophies and instant gratification... kids these days dont know how to play good games and their attention span cant muster having to sit and pay attention for more then 30 minutes

the game story sucks, yes compared to connor it is much better but compared to the earlier games it sucks ass. many glitches and bugs that i have experienced first hand, have taken screen shots 50+ on each different missions...............so it yes many new things, but overall its a 6/10

The frame rate problems in this game are atrocious, PC gamers are struggling to get 60 frames on high end rigs, console gamers aren't even getting the locked 30 that was promised more like 25-20 frames.

I honestly enjoy this game a lot. I beat it nearly a year ago and I still come back to it just because I enjoyed it that much. It's not as bad as people say. Sure there are bugs but I've personally never experienced them on the Xbox. The customization is pretty awesome and the free running was damn right on point as long as you knew your way around. The stealth wasn't as great as previous games, but you can always get better at using it. Story didn't really interest me that much but I did like some aspects of it. And I also love playing co-op with my friends. I would totally recommend this game.
I disagree with this review. This game is something new, and is by far the best AC to date. First of all, it reminds me so much of Assassin's Creed 2. The main character, Arno, is a character you'd remember. THe other characters in the games are great characters too. The customization of this game is amazing, and expands on what the series used to have. The story is not as good as Ezio's story, but it is definitely the second best story. The reviewer complained that the assassinations are the same, but you can assassinate with all the new weapons including the new phantom blade. The climbing has definitely been improved over past AC games. This reviewer complained about some of the controls being the same, but I say don't fix whats not broken. The combat has been redefined, and added new animations. While the stealth isn't perfect, they did improve over previous stealth in older AC games. I would say this game deserves a 9.5/10.

I love AC and I must say this is the weakest link. With that said...
-The Story is interesting.
-A nice variety especially with the portal hunting missions which add a nice mix to things.
-Combat is fun and for the most part feels smooth.
-The reason why it is weak is because it random and annoying bugs can get to you.
-Frame drops and voices being a bit off form people talking.
So if you like AC and already played Syndicate....this game is worth checking out. And who know maybe you will be lucky to not encounter bugs. :)

Sadly I encountered one when Arno wouldn't attack the guy even though I was mashing the attack button, and aside from that I haven't encountered anything game breaking. I think this game went back to its roots without any real gimmicks in the game and not have it be complicated in story like revelations, III and IV. It was just Assassins versus Templars with some twists and didn't do anything from that until sequence 6 and so on. The modern story wasn't as good as people hoped and probably made like that on purpose so that people won't feel as though the pacing is off. It's a good game for sure, and that it was just trying to do of what made assassins creed assassins creed and improve on it without gimmicks that have been around since ac brotherhood or revelations. I like this game better than most of what people say, even after launch.

I believe the problem here and the negativity are based on game polish.. I mean, they give AW a 9.1 because, yes even though it may be slightly similar to the previous ones, it is polished as every other COD out there (they spend most of their time fixing bugs rather than innovating) and has zero problems and glitches. Assassin's Creed on the other hand, while they try to present new characters, story and setting every year, has always kept its bugs, glitches, control problems and general annoyances. It seems like reviewers prefer a polished and medium quality game, than a good quality/refreshing one but non-polished and with problems.
Day one update fixed all these issues.
That's purely because AC takes a lot more work to pull off.

Yeah, this isn't the review to go by. I've had the game since midnight, which was 14 hours ago. AC Unity is absolutely superb. But don't just take MY word for it. The TH-camrs I've watched playthrough the game these past few days can't stop raving about it. Not to mention TheGamesCabin's review from last week. That particular reviewer went in depth much better than this guy at IGN. I can tell you first hand that his description and analysis the game is more accurate than IGN's.

I've watched many reviews, and they've gave it a 8.5 or a 9 and I agree with them. I can't believe that IGN gave it such a low score. From what I've seen it looks like of of the best assassins creed yet. And the worst AC games (3 and 4) get a higher score. This is a really bad review.

I would absolutely give the game an 8.8-9/10. It is without a doubt the BEST AC since AC II, and even better than Black Flag, which was my second favorite until about 16 hours ago lol
One of my top ten games of all time is Assassins creed 2, I played brotherhood which was good and 3 which I didn't really care for, Blackflag which was ok.
Not sure if I should get this or not, no other assassins creed seems to have matched that of 2 yet for some reason. The environment looks amazing but by the sound of it that's all that's truly great about this game

The only downside to this game, to me at least, is that there are a lot ... a lot, of bugs and glitches. None that make the story unplayable, but many that sometimes ruin the immersion of the gamer's experience. I'm sure future updates will eventually eliminate the abundance of those glitches, however for now, I still suggest you get this game, as it reminds me of Assassin's Creed 2 a lot! You will love it in that sense :)

I really liked this game i'd give it a 9.2/10 the only real problem I see with it is occasionally finicky controls, some glitches, occasional cliched dialogue, and DEAR GOD THE LOADING SCREENS ARE A FUCKING NIGHTMARE! xD like I understand the game is huge and I really admire that, but after seeing Black Flags amazingly short loading times, the length of these loading screens give me chills. But still a great game, Arno is not a one dimensional character, his quest starts off as revenge but becomes about redemption, and the ending was satisfying, just maybe could have been more satisfying. Also I never found the british accents distracting, besides there's the option to have the characters speak french with english subtitles :)

GILDANTE had nothing to do with the actual language they were speaking just the fact that they all spoke in british accents....every other game had english speaking people but at least had the proper accents
And for god sake, the game was not advertised to be revolutionary, just because it's set in a time period where a revolution took place, doesn't mean that the game is being advertised as a revolutionary experience. The developers literally said that they wanted to go back to basics and have the game be a fresh new start for the franchise on Next Gen consoles.

It has to do with what they thought sounded the most appropriate when creating a period piece it also has to do with the idea the conversation is being translated/interpreted.

The pirate theme has always been the best theme. You can like the city exploration and all but syndicate, origins, revelations, brotherhood, AC 1 and AC 2 have city exploration.

I have to say, after they fixed the bugs, Unity became a stellar entry into the Assassins Creed franchise. The combat was awesome, and being able to change how your assassin looked piece by piece was great. The open World Multiplayer is what I would really like to see return.

What a rubbish review. You say the story is underwhelming, and I would've agreed with you a few days ago. But I reached sequence six today. And without giving anything away, I was so immersed in the plot I could not put the control down, even though I have to be up at 6:30 tomorrow. I literally ran across Paris to get to the next checkpoint. I haven't felt that in a videogame in a very long time. It was like being 13 again.
Assassins Creed Unity revolutionized the series. The combat and parkour is complete and totally overhauled, and it's noticeable in the controls. Granted, they're a bit funky at times. But what makes this game so amazing is Paris. It is quite possibly one of the most beautiful game worlds I've ever seen. Just the mere 1:1 scale of the city is breath taking, the massive interiors. Especially in the mansions, the Bastille and Notre Dame. The crowds, the individuality of the buildings and streets. The underground. It really is an amazing city. One of a kind. Just looking down a street or standing on a roof top is fun for me.
If you think COD: AW "innovates" and Assassins Creed: Unity doesn't, then someone is putting something in your morning coffee.
Not to mention the diverse upgrade system. In your Shadow of Mordor review. A mediocre game which you got paid to give a very, very undeserving score of 9; all you talked about in that video was the upgrade system. But in the AC: Unity review, it is hardly given the light of day. When AC: Unity has the most customization of any AC game yet. Not only weapons, colours, armour, etc. but also skills. Little things like double assassination, poison, less falling damage, etc. Little things like that add a whole new layer to the game itself outside of the main story mode, as oppose to just having them at the start.
It is a big leap from a developers standpoint too. The game breaths new life into the series. And while I liked Assassins Creed 4, it wasn't assassins creed. It was a pirate game. Unity is an AC game in every respect. Of the caliber me and other AC fans have been waiting for since Assassins Creed 1.
I have not played Coop so I won't factor it into my opinion yet, but the idea and introduction of it is a big step in the right direction.
The only negative about this game, the only one. Is the frame rate, which in all reality will be fixed with updates. It doesn't even have that many bugs (I've encountered only 2), and not nearly as many as haters like to pretend. According to IGN, Red Dead Redemption had bugs (it didn't) but they gave it a 9.7 anyway. That just shows the inconsistency of IGN reviews.
A fair, unbiased score for this game is 9/10, easily. I just feel like an idiot complaining about the bugs when I have this beautiful city to explore. I think it is simply trendy to hate ubisoft. And the hate is just rubbing off on people, including me. But once you actually have a since of independence, play this game and not care what people think, you realize that it really is one of the best titles of the year. And when that idiot in the other video said "Assassins Creed Unity is the worst AC game yet" I laughed. Because that is just so absurd. People are so hung up on pixels, when they don't even realize that lighting, optimization, design, modeling, physics, etc. play a huge role in graphics as well.
You can disagree. But this game is worthy of at least an 8. It is, at the moment, my 3rd favourite game of all time. Behind Red Dead Redemption and Halo: Reach, and in front of The Last of Us.
Ehh I have to disagree with the story part. I'm absolutely loving this story I think Arno is a fantastic assassin as opposed to boring conor and and ok kenway. My favorite assassin still and always will be ezio but Arno takes some of that finesse and charm. This is my favorite assassins creed I've played so far on par with AC2 and brotherhood. Good job ubisoft on this one. However this is just my opinion.

I wouldn't call it amazing, but it is a enjoyable experience. It brings some new ideas to the table that will no doubt be improved in the next game. 2nd will always rule though ;)... AC in China or Japan MAKE IT HAPPEN UBISOFT

You obviously didn’t play it at launch. This game was a yearly release. For months it was unplayable. You can’t release a yearly release broken, fix it months before the next release, and expect the general public to play it at its peak state. Ubisoft was bullied by gamers to fix this game. Although this didn’t change the general opinion, AC fans at least got a decent game.

Well there were three games that took place in Italy, but they didn't speak Italian the whole time. If anything, characters in Unity should speak English with a French accent, with some occasional French slipped in (like in previous games).
It's explained that Abstergo modifies the memories so the user hears their preferred language...
In Britain, where I live, we have a lot of dramas set in France. When we watch them, they are all spoken in a strong british accent. This is just how things are, and I guess it is probably different in the US

I enjoyed AC3 a lot actually. I've played it like 3 times. I haven't really disliked any AC game to be honest.
I know I sed black flag was like a pirate stimulator but it was still an awesome game not gonna lie. But it didn't really have the assassins creed feeling tho. If that makes sense. But it didn't stop me from enjoying it.
I still enjoyed it. Black flag was something new and amazing. I never said I hated it. I just said it felt less like a AC game should feel.

I loved Black Flag and Rogue because they both felt like some sort of old-timey naval Far Cry. This appears to be a massive step back in terms of freedom, varied locations, exploration and side-missions. Don't see the appeal if I'm honest.

NO WAY its a definitive benchmark.The game is fun but gets repetitive after a short time. If anything GTA 5 set a new standard for open world games. The detail in everything is crazy, especially for last gen consoles.

Demoknight 69 if you look past the glitches that aren't as bad as people say, this is a great ac game, it isn't extremely easy, or punishing. and the the combat takes skill, not reaction time. plus the customization was amazing to say the least. Arno was a good character, in my opinion, and so was Elise. the only story related problem I could bring up off the top of my head is the lack of actual cool/ meaningful characters on either side, wether it be the Templars or assassins. only one I remember is Bellec.

Gamers out there; do not listen to this trash review. This game was REALLY good. It brought back many features that we loved from older Assassin's Creeds. As well as bringing back the main conflict of Assassins Vs. Templars (the whole idea of the first game) we got to see wonderful Character development and conflict. Overall, here's what you get when you buy this game.
Pros
-Beautiful City construction
-Amazing Graphical display
-Fun and smooth parkour (Most of the time)
-lengthy story that is worth playing.
-Combat that brings back a challenge.
While I wish I could brag about this game forever, there are a few Down sides.
Cons
-Sometimes game lags and freezes
-sometimes iffy parkour
-money is hard to spend unless you do Co-op.
Overall, I think IGN is full of Crap, because as a true fan of the franchise, I can easily say this game deserves an 8, if not 9.

I absolutely hate this game - to be honest I think that 7.8 is too high. I found pretty much everything to be dodgy - tbh the only thing I enjoyed was the multiplayer but even that had issues - your friends can join your game and there is no loading screens, so when they leave why are you teleported away and sent through 2 loading screens!!!!

I just finished the main story line, and will say this review hits the nail on the head.
The AC Unity world is remarkable, and has incredibly realistic physics. I found myself walking through the streets admiring the scenery, buildings, and crowds.
But, the issues with character control were utterly frustrating. More than once did I have to stop myself from throwing my controller across the room in anger.
Additionally, I was left wanting more out of Arno's story.
Unity has extreme highs and extreme lows. I hope Ubisoft can resolve these issues before their next installment in the AC franchise.
That last part aged poorly
I surprisingly liked Unity more than Rogue, in my opinion.
The customization, the multiplayer, the music, the graphics, and the gameplay (minus the stealth sections) helped me ignore the issues in the story, Arno's character, and the occasional glitches.
Top AC Games
1. AC2- Overall best game. Amazing story, fun gameplay, great characters, and an environment to get lost in.
2. AC4- Very good AC game. The gameplay was my personal favorite and felt super smooth. The environment and free roam were amazing and made you actually feel like a pirate. The story was good but in my opion could pf been better.
3. AC- Good assassins creed game which layed the basics for a badass series. Amazing cahracters (Altair being my personal favorite in the AC series) and good and fun gameplay. the only downside was the story which seemed very repetive of just finding info and assassinating a templar target. The actual story telling was amazing though.
4. AC3- Good game to branch farther into a huge open world and thriving environment. Personally i liked the story and enjoyed every mission, but Connor being the main antaginast seemed like a pretty bland character. (Not to mention the extremely slow start.) But the new weapons were amazing and fun to use and the sea battles laid foundation for amazing battles to come.
5. AC Brotherhood- Ok assassins creed with mediocre story, fun combat, and a cool addition of the brotherhood system. To me the story really lacked and thats why its low on the list.
6. AC Revelations- worst assassins creed. the story seemed extremely boring and left ezios life with many un answered questions. the gameplay didnt involve anything new and the characters just felt recycled.
These are my opinions and i respect if yours are completey different. Anyway Thanks for reading :)

All of those are FPS games. You can't really compare AC to CoD or Halo. Yeah they got 9 or above but that's because they are great FPS games. AC got a 7.8 because it is a better than decent, but not great, action/adventure game, in their opinion. Now I could see if you were mad while comparing this to what they gave Shadow of Mordor or maybe a Batman game but getting mad that CoD got higher than AC is just ignorant. Honestly, when are you ever playing AC and saying, "This game is dumb because there aren't any SMGs like in Call of Duty!" And when have you ever played CoD and said, "I can't believe IGN gave this a 9.3! There's no parkour, side missions, or RPG elements like in Assassin's Creed!" Exactly. Never. You shouldn't be getting upset at the scores because these games are nothing alike.

I honestly don't are why people are hating on the review. Just like the verdict says, this is a GOOD GAME. Marry Sliva had been reviewing a couple game too high this year, but honestly he did a great job in explaining why this game is good yet not amazing. (COD review is still too high in my opinion IGN, should be around an 8.3 or so)

Fantastic game. I played it 6-12 months after release when I knew it was "fixed" and I had a great experience. The game is great but got shunned by it's technical issues and was never given a fair chance by most people who gave up a hour in because it gliched out.

call of duty barley works on the pc it just about works so its mind blowing to me that it was given that score and its just the same shit as last time with titanfall jet packs.

I love this game and it's story. The setting is beautiful and I love how the streets are filled with people revolting against the monarchy. Also makes it a lot easier to blend and hide from enemies.
