Very much looking forward to the future video(s) on the Rucksack.
When I joined my battalion in the late 70's, I had the misfortune to have a couple of KF shirts nicked!
I went to the QM's store and got issued a couple of replacements. One was brand new, but the other was a khaki coloured shirt with the WD arrow and date stamped 1944. It appeared to be brand new, at least there were no bullet holes to be seen, so that's what i assumed.
Wearing it during the summer shirt-sleeve months initially caused some issues with Sgt Majors thinking it was a No.2 shirt, but eventually they all accepted that was what I'd been issued.
It got so worn and dhobied so much that inevitably the collar worn through and i had to exchange it 🥴.
Funny how this channel jogs the old grey matter into seemingly minor details of one's military service 😁.
Also looking forward to future videos on this rucksack, I think the first time I saw one was in the film Where Eagles Dare. Very interesting to note the similarities in design between this and the GS bergen.
I'd like to see some tutorials for rolling the straps on the bergen to keep them so neat!
Great videos. Keep up the good work
Thanks for another interesting video Simon 👍
Nice rucksack. I was given a 52 pattern jumper by a relative who was in the Army in the 60s. Much more comfortable and smarter with the lacing than later wooly pullies. I remember when the RAF switched from battle dress with medals and insignia to jumpers in the 70s. From memory initially aircrew weren’t permitted to wear their wings on their jumpers. The decision was later reversed but illustrates nothing new under the Sun.
Another great vid keep it up.
Great rucksack. One wonders why they bothered with the 1958 pattern haversack when this was available.
The 58 patten large pack was absolute rubbish in my opinion
Earliest images of rucksack I have ever seen, very early use of these.
In use during ww2 by special units, came into with the airborne post ww2.
Did they Blanco it ?
More Irish kit please such as what was worn by Irish troops on northern irish border duty.
