Hi Maryanne, I took German for three years at university. Thereafter, I was given the opportunity to travel to Germany through DAAD to attend a winter school in Cologne. From the University of Cologne, I received a certificate saying that I have B1 level of German. Do you think the Embassy will accept this or do you think I still have to go through the Goethe-Insitut to obtain a B1 certificate?
As far as i know they only accept TELC TestDaf and Goethe Institute exams only. To be surejust call and ask or write them. Make sure to mention which Cert you hold.

It depends on the type of Visa and your reason for visit...for FSJ the minimum requirement for most institutions is B1 but some ask for A2 if your lucky
You can travel with language visa, job seeking visa, visiting visa etc. I talk about fsj aupair etc bcz they are free n dont require a bank statement to get visa
If someone officially invites and sponsors you, you can travel here and stay for up to 90 days. Even without A1. Au Pair is not possible at your age and for FSJ/BFD B1 (and in the medical field B2) are highly recommended because you have a high responsibility for the well-being of other people where language-based misunderstandings should be avoided.
Hi girl,not really. Aupair in Germany doesnt count as social work and there was no relationship of my Ausbildung to my Aupair. I luckily applied to an org. Where prior social work was not a requirement.
You can do apprenticeships in any job field in which there are not enough German applicants. This varies from region to region. However, as far as I am informed you do not earn any money during this type of Ausbildung (!!!) but still have to cover your costs of living. That's something one should seriously consider before coming here and that's why usually only people from at least middle class backgrounds do this type of Ausbildung, who or whose parents can afford to fully support the apprentice during 3-4 years.
@Bethie Fish: Usually all these placements start around the beginning of September because this is when the normal academic year starts here. However, as there are literally TONS of open placements that urgently need to be filled (I just read that in the care sector there are currently 50,000 vacancies throughout Germany !!!) I am quite sure that you can apply all year round and chances stand very well that you will find a good placement. However, you need to make sure that it includes accomodation. Lots of FSJ/BFD placements don't include accommodation because they were originally aimed at Germans who want to do a gap year between the completion of secondary education and their higher studies or apprenticeships. They usually still stay with their parents and don't need accommodation.

Our 8 4 4 System has one year less than the German system. Thats why our KCSE doesnt count as Abitur. To have Abitur you have to go through Studienkolleg for one year. And my application was considered as i already have one year in the Ausbildung

Yeah,there is Goethe Institut in Germany. You should also know that there are different B2 exams like Goethe Zertifikat, Telc, Tesdaf, DSL. you decide on which exam depending on what you need it for.

It actually depends on how old the certificate is. It might be recognised if it's not too old. I'm not sure though how old it may be.
