    There's an impeller on the motor that blows air through a port that pushes sawdust out of the way. You block the port with the slide switch (push it forward) when using the vacuum.

    With the new generation when using a vacuum you are suppose to turn the blower off. The black bar next to the angle knob. Just fyi.

    Just picked one of these up so I can cut out the rust in my two rear wheel wells. Worked awesome, and a big bonus surprised me.. rigid snuck in a switch to turn the blower on and off! No change of model number they just come with that switch now. Awesome!

    Did you guys know that the Newest Octane version has a blower shut off? Also the new skid plate design doesn’t have the hole in the middle. Much better dust collection.

  • @superiorbeing95
    @superiorbeing95 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got one of these and the only difference to the Milwaukee that is worth mentioning is the controllability at slow speeds. The Ridgids slowest speed is a lot faster than the Milwaukees slowest speed, there's a whole range of really slow speeds missing on the Ridgid, this isn't a major issue for most work but I do like that controllability at super slow speeds that the Milwaukee has.
    I run this on small AEG non octane battery and it runs just fine.

    I just started to buy power tools as i just bough myself my 1st house and realized i needed them for a bunch of projects lol... so i invested in ridgid tools and i don't have a jigsaw yet, but damn it would of been helpfull for some little projects i did, but i was gonna buy just the normal gen 5x jigsaw they have, but now i'm gonna wait t'ill home depot has that octane jigsaw, i love the variable speed dial on the top feature with the locking on feature! I message Ridgid the other day to ask when that will be available in canada, and they had no idea :( ... great review! Thank you

    Will this work with Ridgid 18v line or will you have to get an octane battery, I’m a little confused about the octane line.

    • @orijimi
      @orijimi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the essence of it is the Octane batteries and the Octane tools are able to communicate and provide short bursts of otherwise ill-advised wattages to the tools when they are encountering a lot of resistance. The Octane batteries being larger probably means pushing each individual cell just a little bit means a significant uptick across the board. So using a normal 18v battery on an Octane tool is fine. It will recognize it's a standard battery and not try to overdraw the cells. And using an Octane battery on older Ridgid tools is totally fine too. The battery only does what it's asked, and the tool is only going to ask it to do what an old battery could.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It works will all 18-volt Ridgid batteries.

    • @MrNateSPF
      @MrNateSPF 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regular tool + Regular battery = good
      Regular tool + Octane battery = better
      Octane tool + Regular battery = better
      Octane tool + Octane battery = best
      Octane batteries have a little extra kick so they don't bog down in high demand applications, and Octane tools have more advanced circuitry to use that power more efficiently. Like you know when you're pushing a regular battery tool to the limit and it slows down and turns into the Little Engine who could? You should get less of that with one being octane, and full octane should be more like a corded experience.

    Milwaukee killer? You do know that RIDGID and Milwaukee are both made by TTI... They are made by the same company, Milwaukee is the Professional line and RIDGID is the Pro-sumer line of tools. They also make RYOBI which is their home owner DYI budget line.... All three top quality, but they are marketed to different people and have very different price ranges. Not a fair comparison to compare tools from different Pro/consumer classes.

    • @firebirdlover4460
      @firebirdlover4460 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, Ridgid is marketed to contractors just like Milwaukee. Its just their more affordable contractor line. I put Ridgid somewhere on the same level as Dewalt. I've had plenty of both brands over the years from both and they are pretty comparable, IMHO. I'm an industrial mechanic who uses his tools a lot, but not as much as some guy working in construction. I put Milwaukee and Makita in the top tier of tools which I would be using if I had to use them 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. That being said....I wouldn't use any of those brands for concrete work. That territory belongs to Hilti and Bosch.

    Hi, really like your videos. I just got this saw recently and it comes with an extra switch that allows you to turn off the built in dust blower.
    I have a question concerning blade stability, I have trouble making a perpendicular and straight cuts on 2x material with this saw , I'm using new DeWALT jig saw blades and pushing the saw slowly, but my cuts on 2x3s are always crooked. Do you think it has anything to do with the saw? The guide bearing seems to shift left and right slightly, could this contribute to blade deflection? Thanks!

    • @WorkshopAddict

      2x material is thick for a jig saw. Are you using wider blades or just standard blades?

    Build quality of Ridgid is 2nd grade...It cannot be comparable with Bosch and Dewalt. Ridgid, Milwaukee, and Ryobi are real Chinese products. They just show off strong motors. Honestly they cannot pass QC in Korea, German, Italy, Japan, and even US because plastic parts, stickers, and rubber grips are badly aligned. I buy Ridgid only on sale for occasional use, but I buy Dewalt tools for everyday use. I found Milwaukee is not very good as Ridgid. I believe Milwaukee spends lots of money to social media and more margin to wholesalers like Home depot.

    Ridgid has a 3.0 AH Octane battery, it's really new to the Ridgid line, I have the old R 883 jigsaw... that I purchased when Ridgid still had their 24 volt and 18 volt battery lines, and I can slap a 4 amp hour battery on that thing, and it runs like a raped ape, and I think it's probably around 11 years old..... unfortunately I never registered it, so when it dies I'll probably pick up one of these new ones

    I don't like Ridgid anymore. I have been using them for a year and a half and I have probably 6-7 cordless tools from them. I've had several tools fail from light use, and I've had half of my batteries die from humid air. Their batteries are terribly protected from the elements. One time, I accidentally damaged a water line while installing a kitchen. Not a big deal, it was fixed right away, just embarrassing for me though, and it was touching the drywall which is not right anyway... But my drill got a splash of water about a teaspoon worth. The drill is fine but the battery died. Another pair of batteries were stored in a tool box in my truck box, which has a tonneau cover. The humidity in the air killed these batteries over night on the first humid night of the year. I store my Makita, Milwaukee, and DeWalt batteries the same exact way and have never had a problem for four years. I'm done wasting money on these poorly sealed and coated batteries. I opened up the dead batteries and there's hardly any protection against humidity. Bare circuit board on the 2ah, 4 and 3ah batteries. Corroded circuit boards and other corrosion.

      @@robhimself79 being Canadian, it's especially hard to get ridgid to approve LSA. For a while, they would decline you because Canadian home depots use a different order of year/month/day on the receipts than American HD so they would just decline you cause the receipt code didn't "match" their system. Besides that, I don't have time to wait for the repairs. I use almost all of my tools everyday, and have gone away from ridgid to prevent hold ups.
