      It did a horrible job as a realistic survival movie. It was likely the most unrealistic, low-IQ movie I have ever wasted my time on. Thank goodness it had some type of meaning somewhere. I was literally laughing or shaking my head throughout the entire movie, it was just too stupid for me to care about, believe or even take seriously...... You will only like this if you have a low IQ, otherwise don't waste your time on it. There are movies 100x better than this. This whole movie is a joke with a "cry" part at the end. 3/10, watch something better, save yourself the time......................

      @@michaelsanchez7623 Why not just make it a good movie then? If the message is so important, why not take the time to actually make it make sense, be realistic, or at least be somewhat believable? Jurassic Park was believable because they went to great lengths to show how it could be achieved, why things were the way they were. There was a reason to the madness. This movie would only appeal to small children who know nothing about nature whatsoever. It's almost insulting how dumb they allowed themselves to be. Just do some research. Why are people forgetting how life works? It's really weird to me. Are we really getting that stupid as a society? That's the more important lesson here....

    • @michaelsanchez7623

      @@UXSpecialist first Jurassic Park was intended for small children so not a good example. Second I'm not disagreeing with you about the realism of the movie it could have been done better and I dont think the movie was made for small children either as in the beginning of the movie it shows our protagonist about to commit suicide. An nature wolfs can be aggressive ( not to the extent as depicted in the movie) but when working in a pack can be very dangerous. But the wolfs are supposed to be a symbol of the survival instinct of humans us me and you. How much are you willing to suffer before you quit, when you have no real reason to live.
      In my opinion this movie does a great job showing us that.

    • @UXSpecialist
      @UXSpecialist 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelsanchez7623 1. Jurrasic was one of the biggest blockbusters of all time. It was meant for audiences of all people worldwide. I would say if anything the only audience it would exclude is small children because of the intensity and gore of some scenes......

    I just watched this film...
    HOLY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This movie literally felt real. REAL. It was sunny outside and I thought my hands felt numb. My chest was rising up to my neck towards the second half and it's one of the most grim, gritty, real, terrifying and downright incredible pieces of film I have ever come across. I live in the Pacific Northwest and there's a lot of mountains and evergreens around here, and every time I visit Mt. Rainier, hell, just the woods, in the cold, I always imagine how harsh and surreal it could feel to try and survive in such extremes - this film reveled in all those nightmarish thoughts drowned out by relief and warped us into a cold, gravitating and emotionally resonant masterpiece that opened my eyes to a whole lot of things. We need more films like this, and I feel Liam Neeson deserved an Oscar nomination for this role. He's such a sublime, brilliant actor. And my respect for Joe Carnahan was already cultivated in The Blacklist, having not seen his films, many of them which critics find crappy. But this movie, I heard, was an exception, and HOLY CRAP, it was! One of the downright best things I've ever seen. Applause to everyone involved in it.

      It was literally the lowest IQ movie I have ever seen. I was laughing and cringing the whole time at how stupid, fake and unrealistic it was. I'm shocked at how people actually fall for this type of unrealistic garbage. What a waste of time seriously.

    Characters got killed off way too quickly, abruptly, and predictably, the scariness of the wolves was played out a little too much (ooooh wolves eyes glow in the dark! Scary! And they stay a reasonable distance away from you that you can see their eyes but they aren't close enough to attack you because OOOoooooOOooO!!) Liam Neeson doesn't get any closure, the big showdown between him and the wolves that we're teased about in the trailers and previews doesn't happen, and the whole adventure is pointless.

The poem is a metaphor for life and the choice to either lay down and die, or to keep going and fight, despite life's challenges, i.e. the wolves, the whole movies is a metaphor for life, not about the fight, but the choice you make, to life or die.

    -Cool, unique atmosphere
    BUT

    Overall, I'd give this a 4/5, only because of the sem-depressing ending

    I recently watched this again. My third time seeing and it gets better every time. The movie has a lot of intensity to it. It's sad and haunting all the way through, but in the most awesome way possible. The acting is just great, and I like the ending too. *****IF YOU HAVE THIS ON DVD KEEP WATCHING PAST THE CREDITS***** You will see a small last scene!! It gives you a hint about what happened, but it still doesn't tell you everything.

    The ending was touching seriously I almost cry with it. I felt I was gonna hate it but then I thought "nature is cruel with man no matter how prepared he is to face it" and that's why I ended up loving that ending.

    The Grey is far more than a survival movie. Its actually a reflection of the main Characters psyche, the last fight of a great warrior whose days are numbered. The quote at the beginning serves as a guideline for that interpretation.
    Atleast that is how i interpreted the movie...

    My one question: did they add the shot of him punching the wolf? Cause that was what made me excited about this movie, but I heard it was just in the trailer so I didn't watch it.

    The forest provides better coverage against the weather. The plane leaves you out in the open where the freezing wind will kill you. In the forest the trees will block some of wind and you'll have more resources to survive. Why are you questioning how a wolf moves around in it's natural habitat? If I remember correctly the crash site was in the wolves' territory, wouldn't have survived long if they stayed there.

  • @kasmeria

    That movie was set up to be entertaining. The combination of the exciting theme with the acting of Liam Neeson was in my mind perfect. But, man was I wrong! Liam Neeson's character was a joke. He portrayed a suicidal person (still nobody knows why) who was supposed to be this big expert on wolves and wild life, but immediately lead a group of a plane crash survivors to certain death. His first order in command: Leave the plane where they had some kind of shelter and go straight to the wolves den! By doing so, everybody except him died. The whole wolves thing was unrealistic, both in their appearance and behavior, not even making sense. The worst scene for me was after a guy was killed by the wolves while they were leaving the crash site. The rest of the team just spent the night exchanging jokes and past stories just like they were in a beach around fire. That was ridiculous to say the least. The writers failed miserably to create a background for the main characters as their life stories were ordinary and boring. This movie is way overrated here, i think people are just afraid to rate low for a Liam Neeson film. They shouldn't.

  • @uhuhuh1966
    @uhuhuh1966 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    That would have defeated the whole purpose of the film. The story was about Liam Neeson's character facing his problems and not running from them, like he tried to do after his wife died with trying to kill himself. He finally decided to Live and Die on This Day, either ending would be sufficient, if the wolf killed him he would then be back with his wife, if he killed the wolf he would have faced his problems & be a better man. They left it up to you decide which you think should've occured.

    I haven't seen it yet, but wolves hunting people isn't so weird. It's winter in the middle of nowhere...wolves' in their element. Wolves are hunters, they can tell if a "herd" is easier to prey on than say...a fast running caribou. I like wolves, but it makes sense. >_>

    People are looking at The Grey as a realistic movie, in which case it flops quite big. The reason they made it like they did was because it was a deep thoughful experience, not some run and gun action thriller. Only when you sit down and consider the deeper aspects of the film will you be able to truely appreciate the directing and acting. I loved the whole thing

  • @usabfb
    @usabfb 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't think I've ever seen any "stranded in the middle of nowhere" movies. Not really my thing. I'll pick a favorite scene instead: the one at the end of Quantum of Solace where the bad guy is stranded in the desert with a bottle of oil. Yeah, that wasn't the best Bond movie, but that was a great ruthless end to that movie that I think showed off the Daniel Craig Bond really well.

    i think they both died. remember "we saw the final breaths of many of the characters from the wolf he shot at the very beginning, to the guy on the plane, to the guy that fell from the tree, to the guy that drowned (sorry, can't remember their names). I think that's what they were showing there after the credits... the final breaths." (Autumn, yahoo answers) wanted to explain it mtself but easier to copy n paste :)

    i thought this was a great movie. I agree w/Jeremy. I also was fortunate enough to not have watched the trailer for the movie until AFTER i saw it. Turns out, the trailer shows the last scene which would falsely set up the watcher for a man vs wlf fight scene. The ending was beautiful, and if you stayed past the credits, you got a 5sec bonus scene that finalizes the result. Awesometacular indeed.

    Why is a depressing ending inherently bad to you? People make mistakes, and good stories don't always end happily ever after. The way the theme of the movie came to a head in the ending was beautifully done. Tragic and sad but also inspirational and uplifting.

    Hey Jeremy, the movie Evangelion 3.0: You (cannot) redo comes to specific theaters on January 10th and 11th ONLY. it would be cool if you reviewed an anime movie and judge it by the voice acting, animation, atmosphere, music, and plot. Its a pretty complicated movie, you'll have to do some research on it if you want to understand it more. Its also kinda post apocalyptic, since the earth is.... sorry, i dont wanna spoil it. see trailers on funimation.

    I hate seeing all the people criticizing the movie for a lack of realism. This is not meant to be a wolf documentry, through the whole movie it was obvious wolves are nothing like that. But none of that takes away the whole theme of the movie. This one of my favourite movies and has one of my favourite endings of all time

    This movie is like The Edge meets Pitch Black. It's so cool! That fact that you're scared when the wolves are off screen is really remenicent of Jaws. Great film, Liam Neeson is a boss.
