Thank you for the video! I would like to add my personal experience regarding fee waivers! I have applied to 40 prestigious universities in the USA without any payment. (Fall 2023_ Chemistry Ph.D.) 1. Free (some universities do not charge an application fee) 2. Just write an email and ask -they will send a code or waive the fee (ask from the grad coordinator) 3. Write an email and explain with proofs ( Ex-Mahapola letter/ financial aid-related letters) 4. Within the application form it asks about application fee-waiver_they will evaluate based on the information you provide/ or after all submissions with recommendations they will evaluate 5. Separate application/Google form for fee waiver/ with or without proof 6. Participate in their virtual event/ Info session (either code/ or they will automatically waive) 7. Can submit/save without any payment _will evaluate your application materials _ sometimes after acceptance, you have to pay 8. Sometimes there may be an interview for fee waivers 10. For some unies, if apply before a particular date, the application is free *Some unies do not provide fee waivers for International students *May based on your Financial hardship/ Academic merits *Fee waivers do not affect admission decision * Apply/ ask early since the availability of small # fee waivers Thank you.
Aiiye, I've two options; to do special degree in Chemistry or Zoology. My future plan is to do PhD or Masters in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology. Which one is most appropriate for it? With Zoology I can take more molecular biology, Immunology, Parasitology, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology courses whereas chemistry degree has Biochemistry, Chemistry of Biomolecules courses but most are physical, organic and inorganic based. Which one is more advantageous if the goal is to do higher studies in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Computational biology?

If you have specific research interests, first find a university/department that offers a Ph.D. in the field. Then apply to those programs. When you do a Ph.D., you need to and can do research. That is how it works. If you are currently researching a particular area, you might want to address it in your SOP (Statement of Purpose) when you apply to the Ph.D.
@@sagaradewasurendra8219 Sir I'm also from Open uni, Since OU has open and distance mode of teaching, will that be a problem while applying to PHD and masters compared to conventional university students
Yes, but most of them are not covered 100% tuition like in Ph.D. assistantship. But it is still affordable. You may have to show financial support for the remainder of the amount, which does not cover by the assistantship.
No, It is not required, and that is not the way to apply for USA universities (This is probably the way in UK/Australia). You can still write to the professor who you like to do your research for your Ph.D. as your adviser.
Google a "sample of SOP" and read a few of those to get an idea. Then write your own. Please do not copy directly from there because it is possible that you are copying from someone who is already a professor in the university you are going to apply to. ;)
yes. find a job relevant to your field after your master's. You will have an optional training period (OPT) on your student VISA after your masters valid for 3 years if you are in a science-tech-math field, then if you are good the company will apply H1B which is the working VISA and then the green card which is the PR. For Sri Lankans we can apply for the green card when we are working in the OPT (don't necessarily have to apply for H1B).
There are three possible ways to get PR after you complete your studies in the USA. One way is the supung has mentioned, I would like to add few things. When you work in a USA company, they may sponsor for a working visa (H1-B) or Green card (PR) if they think you are excellent for them. Sometimes they directly sponsor for PR without going through H1-B first. Like in academia (Universities: Assistant Professor positions only, not for lecturer, visiting, or adjunct positions), they will sponsor (start the process, it will take 1-1.5 years to get you PR) for PR within the first year of your appointment. But in the industry, it is different and very rare they sponsor for PR before completing your H1-B period (3 years initially and extend for another 3 years, total 6 years). The second way is, after completing your Ph.D. (even before, if you have a good research publication and a good number of citations for them), you can apply for PR under the EB category. As I said, you need to have research publications and citations to go this path. Most Ph.D. students get their PR using this path. You will get to know more about the process and the information from the people around you when you are closer to finish your Ph.D. Lastly, you try the DV lottery (green card lottery) while you are in the USA.
