As for the sawdust direction and the absence of blade guards, this is by design. This is a stationary mill, so for clean-up purposes the sawdust direction works best for me. As for blade guards, since I am the only person that runs this mill, I am quite comfortable not having them. After many thousands of board feet milled I have broken two blades and as expected blade motion stops instantly. Even when a blade slips off the pully which is rare, the result is the same. I have being using industrial grade woodworking machines for 35 years and truthfully to an experienced operator, a horizontal bandsaw is quite low on the danger scale.
SWWWEEEETTTT That Yammy sounds so sweet I could listen to that all day,it sounds like a Harley!! That beats having to listening to some briggs or a kholer all day. Thanks and we enjoyed the video and looking for some more keep em coming
love the mill....!!! any chance of getting a few pictures of the wheel tensioning mechanism (the toe in/out) configuration you have for adjusting how the blade is stopped from riding off??...would be appreciated....(or perhaps another video of these details??.....I am making a mill very similar to this one...just not with the same motor ....
best sounding bandsaw mill on youtube... planing to put on a 50/50 set of pipes? haha.. nice work. i sure took some ideas from this video for my upcoming mill project.. nice toggle clamp setup.
I just gotta say have you tried cutting at a lower speed ? Like just above idle? I bet she would cut just fine at a lower speed. Let us know Thanks for any reply..David from Ga.
I'M A FULL TIME SAWMILLER AND WOULD NEVER NEVER OPERATE THAT MACHINE WITHOUT BLADE GUARDS. YOU'LL LEARN THAT THE FIRST TIME YOU BREAK A BLADE. ALSO, YOUR MILL IS BACKWARDS BECAUSE IT BLOWS THE SAWDUST TOWARDS YOU. THAT MEANS THE BLADE IS RUNNING TOWARDS YOU. GET IT? YOU'RE IN THE LINE OF FIRE. SAFETY FIRST!!!
I have built a bandmill myself I could not agree more An initial run with guards off threw the blade and the razor sharp teeth had they hit me would have been a trip to an emergency room as a minimum I hate 'safety nannies' but this thing is a severe injury waiting to happen Not to mention the noise Mine uses an electric motor powered directly from a solar array
Nice build Sir.
That is a great mill. Love the power unit!!!

Covers would protect those, who are standing in line of the blade, operator is safe if he keeps standing at the back of machine
Guess he wont put safety nets onto those wheels before he looses a bunch of fingers, right?
I will take pictures
oVer all I love, but when that band blade blasts off of the wheels for some reason...look out with no guard,,,....whoa ...DEADLY...
nice mill and it obviously works but how ya starting that yammy. Worst starter system ever invented,
