So I calc'd the Thousand Arrows against Giratina in the Flannery battle... Lvl 70 0- Atk Mewtwo Thousand Arrows vs. Lvl 24 0 HP / 0 Def Giratina: 95-112 (84 - 99.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO Yeah... So it actually lived naturally. That's crazy.
It's a fairly common way to set it because enough runners got sick of runs being heavily impacted by RNG just because some random needed pokemon just won't get in the ball.
I would imagine this is a speedchoice feature - as a rule of thumb, imagine something being a deciding factor in a race, and if it conjures "that's bullshit bro", they've probably given it a place in settings, disabled it, and been glad they did

The Universal Pokemon Randomizer (UPR) originally only allowed to set the catchrate to "everything becomes a Pidgey", which meant that basically everything on 2/3 was instacatch. Speedchoice then added "Instant Catch" as an option. Which is a tremendous help. In general, but specifically in runs like these. Since you don't have any chance to weaken the Level 70, you would need to constantly reload and try to catch it with one ball, which is just a pain

Not necessarily, but it does make for runs like this to be way faster. It's optional; there is a setting in the randomizer you can edit.
